I was shocked he knew who Danny Gatton was as a kid. Danny was amazing yet mostly a regional act in the DC/MD/VA area. Marcus is really gonna influence a lot of young kids to sing and play.

Thomas Cat yet no one has been able to replicate what he did lol, literally every guitarist working now days was influenced in some way by SRV gtfoh 😂
@thert.hon.thelordnicholson72615 жыл бұрын
@@moodyvol89 only boring old farts worship SRV, you are Exhibit A. He is the least innovative blues player ever 🤣 If you only listen to one artist you're not in a position to offer a valid opinion on music. Also, he is forgotten, apart from the aforementioned old farts and wannabes still talking about him. He was a raging cokehead who copped all of Albert King's style, with a hint of Hendrix thrown in - hardly innovating, apart from his skin colour 👋
@thert.hon.thelordnicholson72615 жыл бұрын
@@moodyvol89 also, i realise you probably live in some nowhere place like Bumfuck, Idaho, and it's still the year 1990 over there, so of course all you listen to is music from the 80s 😎

Just discovered this amazing talent yesterday after I read a feature on him in the NY Times. I looked him up and saw that he's playing at the Beacon theater in a couple of weeks, and there are still a few good seats still available down front. The website had a caveat: prices can fluctuate with demand. So I clicked on one of the down-front seats. $635 a pop. I'm really happy for Marcus, but sad to see those seats so far out of my reach!

11:57 doesn't make sense to me. He says he plays the major penatonic of the flat 3. He plays a Cm chord [kind of ,not full barre chord] the flat 3 of Cm is Eflat. He says he solos over the Cm with the E flat Major penatonic , to get out side. But Eflat maj pen is just Cminor pen. Can anyone sort me out?
@kylezinsky15424 жыл бұрын
To me I think it’s just a different way of looking at it.. the notes are the same but the chord tones are different.. so your target notes change if you’re looking at it as the relative major.. it can make a pretty standard pentatonic lick sound a hell of a lot more jazzy or a “little outside”
@mikewhelan95614 жыл бұрын
Thanks l will sit with my guitar and think about what you say.
@Tuck73264 жыл бұрын
Using a minor pentatonic over its relative major has a different consonance (more bluesy) than playing the major pentatonic over it's own root chord and progression. Minor always sounds sad and the blues is sad music. Makes perfect sence to me.
