Small piece of advice, Japanese stuff often use JIS screws. While they look like phillips screws they're slightly different and phillips screwdrivers chew them up. Grab a #2 JIS screwdriver or bit to eliminate chewed screw heads.

I’m a bike mechanic of 20 years, and have done hundreds of sets of them on bikes You’ll struggle to get enough fuel for over 130 bhp on a car. I had some on a heavily built 1750 cc Toyota celica engine from 1974. It made 130 bhp and was on maximum size jets and slimmest needles and couldn’t flow over 6k Bike cylinders are much smaller and Rev much higher so fuel used per stroke is less. Yes they can work on a 1300 polo but

You need JIS screwdriver for those bike carbs. They are not Phillips screws. That's why so many people chew them up👍advice from a Japanese bike owner👍😎

Hi Marcus,hope all is well. I had the same problem with my bike carbs on my cvh Ford Bantam pickup where the fuel came out the vent tube. What i did was i got a small external tank that i mounted against the firewall close to the windshield wipers,in other words higher than the carbs and it was then gravity fed from that small tank and then i had a normal electronic fuel pump that was mounted close to the fuel tank that pumped the external tank with fuel and then obviously gravity fed from there down to the carbs. Just a tip if u want to try that maby,if not, i also heard u can use a fuel pump from a bike. Strongs on getting them to work,i cant wait to see your result and thanks for the great content. Lotsa love and support from Cape Town South Africa

unless a carb was new out of the box i would strip and rebuild with new service parts ie a kit,i bought a weber 32/36 a few months ago on ebay and the float chamber had an hairline crack in it and the seller claimed he didnt notice it,stay safe mate and always inspect carbs fully as they can burn your car out if damaged or faulty.

BTW, those bike carbs use “Japanese Industry Standard” screws (not Philips) which is why you’re having trouble. Order yourself some JIS bits mate. 👍

The float valve seats have O rings into the carb bodies so it's worth changing those as they all shrink. Ideally you should be using Viton O rings as the generic jobs can be anything which could well be attacked by the fuel.

My R1 carbs on my pinto were also flooding so ended up buying a universal electric fuel pump for bikes from DANST and it worked perfect. Unfortunately you are experiencing all the gremlins at once with the set up but once you fit the new bits and check the float heights you should be good. Good work mate 👍

Great video Mate, I'm into bikes and have experience with carbs, it sounds to me your running too much pressure and the bike pump is a good idea......but my best advice to save you lots of swearing and wrecking screws is NOT to use philips or posi drive screw drivers, you need to buy Japan Industrial Standard (JIS) ones, the only way to take Japanese bikes (and parts) to bits.......money well spent

Have you checked the floats to make sure they don't have holes in the float bodies and that they actually float?
@JazzFunkNobby1964
@JazzFunkNobby1964 3 жыл бұрын
Why would they have holes in them? They are plastic.
@francozeolla1139
@francozeolla1139 3 жыл бұрын
@@JazzFunkNobby1964 the floats are often plastic and so they can deteriorate with age. The plastic can crack or can get small perforations which allow fuel into the float, then the floats won't float with the result that the fuel valves won't close.

You may want find out what the float height for the carbs is supposed to be. They all need to be the same height, I suspect that is why you are having fuel leakage as all 4 carbs are not in sync.
@marcushayesford
@marcushayesford 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice mate! 👍 Luckily the float height on these carbs isn't adustable but once I get them running I'll defo be getting my carb syncroniser tool on them and adjusting the screws to make sure theyr all sucking evenly.

Have never seen bike carbs work properly on car installs (I've seen a few people spend a fair bit of time trying to make them work too), the throttle progression is always off, the manifolds don't isolate them properly from vibration so they are prone to flooding & they are tricky to get the fuel pressure low enough as they are generally designed for gravity fuel feed...all of this is before you get into the actual jetting, needles, slide cutaway, llw speed progression drillings plus whatever hacking has been done if the carbs have been respaced. As you're running an ecu anyway then throttle bodies (even bike derived) would have been the natural step if you want individual throttles? I hope you can get it sorted though 👍
