My mother-in-law just passed away a week ago today. It's going to be a while before I can even attempt making this soup. This and rice pudding were her signature dishes.

That’s amazing to know a different style everyone does it differently I’m from ilha de São Miguel my grandmother and mother makes it just like that but they add in sweet potatoes and onions and Knorr for the taste that’s amazing 🇵🇹

I'm imagining it with sweet potatoes and I bet it's fantastic! I've only seen São Miguel in pictures, and it's beautiful. Someday, I hope to go see it in person. Thanks for watching!

Love this. I'm Portuguese my Grandparents were also from the Azores the island of Sao Jorge. They migrated to Hughson California and Monterey CA many years ago . My mother made Kale soup and I make it as well. I make it and I also use Linguica no ketchup lol but I add a can of bean and bacon soup it's amazing. My Soapa is pretty amazing to. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I'll have to try it sometime. Love Portuguese food. ❤️

My mother-in-law used to add beans to her kale soup, although not all the time. I loved it and definitely miss her cooking...especially her rice pudding. She migrated from Terceira to Sao Salito, but eventually wound up in Galt, CA where she lived most of her life. Thanks for watching and leaving a nice comment.

I don’t know why I’m crying watching this. Uggh I miss my Terceira. Grew up there and my parents and daughter are still there. This soup is amazing! And so excited to learn from someone from Terceira

Awe. It's gotta be hard not living close to your daughter and parents, so it's understandable that certain foods bring back memories and can make you homesick. You definitely grew up in a beautiful place. I've only visited Terceira a couple of times, but I fell in love with the people, the food, and all the beautiful traditions. I hope you can make it back out there soon. Thanks for the comment.

Curly kale is just fine to use as well its a softer texture but taste about the same. i use with curly kale or collards which are couves. I use beef soup bone and chourico which is also a Portuguese sausage. delicious! Your missing the beans 🙂

The ketchup and vinegar are such awesome ideas. My mom is from Ilha do Faial also in the Azores. Many times growing up in NJ we had problems finding Linguica or Chourico so she would sub ham hocks or later turkey ham when my parents' blood pressure started to elevate. This is an awesome video. Thank you for the new ideas my family is going to love my new couves.
@marcyinspired14422 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the comment. I've never been to the island of Faial, but I've seen pictures and it is SO beautiful. Also loved hearing about how your family made do with with the ingredients they could find. There's a pretty big Portuguese population in northern California, so we never had problems finding linguiça there. But now that we live in Arizona, we can only find it at certain stores, and it is expensive, so we buy it when we want to splurge.

Well there is a company located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts that ships Portuguese products nationwide. Gaspar's Sausage. Awesome Linguica, Chourico and even some fantastic sweet bread

Wow I've never heard of this, Spanish food is so interesting especially from the Azores. The sausage looked great too. I might try this this winter if I can the sausage, I think I know where. Great job!

Portuguese Linguiça is really good with eggs for breakfast, too. You just slice it down the middle lengthwise & fry it. 👌🏼🍳 (I’ve never had Spanish food in the Azores. I just assumed it was all Portuguese.)
@ezquad9592 жыл бұрын
Its not Spanish food dude...its portuguese. Ive never heard of spanish kale soup and i dont anyone who has heard of it either. Acores are the island of Portugal, which is not spanish.
