Marder is a Cold War-era, troop-carrying infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), designed to keep mechanised battle groups up to speed with their fast-moving tanks.
Ukraine is set to receive a number of the German vehicles to help in their fight against Russia - but what is the Marder and how can it help on the ground?

The Marder is a really good IFV, even if it is already old, but here too, various modernizations have always kept it in good shape. As a Marder A5, he no longer uses the MILAN, but MELLS and can fight heavy Russian tanks up to 4,000 meters. The 20mm is very accurate and can fire different types of ammunition... the rate of fire is also very high. I think the Marder is a great asset for Ukraine.

There is no point in sending small numbers of vehicles to allow Ukraine to hold the ground and defend. They need enough vehicles to put together a offensive battlegroup that can advance and clear ground in the coming summer fighting. Otherwise the war will just drag on.

Marder seems to be quite unimpressive - b u t: it is reliable, uncomplicated, quick and if equipped with Milan it has also the neccessary fire power. The cannon has a smaller calibr, but this brings the advantage that there are many rounds onboard. If Ukraine would have 200 of them, combined with 50-60 Leo2 / Challenger2 and covered by 10 Gepard tanks against air assaults plus several batteries of long range artillery, this can make a frontline collaps - provided that the Russians are not able to bombard all the fleet with heavy artillery nonstop or fly precision strikes in high altitutes (as we know they are not able to do this).

the thing is, there are no 200 Marder around to be spared. its 40 in industry storage, the remaining ones are in active use of the army in the combat brigades. and there has been no production of Marder since 1976. its quite obsolete as a system and should have been replaced as planned in the 90´s by Marder 2, but that project got cut due to budget reasons. Puma is the current replacement, 25 years later.

German news is calling this a tank, which kind of annoys me. "Germans are sending the Marder Tank" they say. Usually it's fine to call Self Propelled Artillery or Anti-Aircraft Guns Tanks as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't usually matter in the civilian context. But this week is does, because the Germans are blocking the Leopard 2 from going and that matters.

These are not meant to defeat tanks, their role is to support infantry. The same goes with the AMX10, the 105mm gun it has fires HE only and has zero capability against armor. Its not a standar NATO 105mm. There is not talk about ATGMs being sent. The ATGMs are a pack of their own and the vehicles can be sent with no ATGMs. They will still be very functional IFVs (infantry fighting vehicles) and not tank fighters.

@billwhoever2830
@billwhoever2830 Жыл бұрын
@@maximilianrediger98 The bradley doesnt fire nlaws, the bradley fires TOW missiles. Marders fire Milan missiles. Id like to read your source because I was realy searching about the marder package. I asumed it was sent with no ATGMs because this is how most equipment is sent to Ukrane, with the expensive parts removed. Take the M777 which were sent without the targeting computers (the main part that made them any good). Even if TOWs and Milans are sent, their effectiveness is low against the ERA equiped tanks of Russia. TOWs have failed to kill t72s in Iran proving that they are not straight forward a tank killer, the Milans are even worse ofc. Both TOWs and Milans require the fire platform to stay stationary to guide the missile, putting the IFV in big danger against a tank equiped with a stabilized gun, firing on the move. So, the IFVs are stil infantry fighting vehicles, not tank destroyers, this is how they were designed.

You have to take into consideration the dynamics of this conflict. It's like a game. It's about gradual escalation. You could argue, that the west is doing this to not provoke Russia too much. Or, if you want to have a more malevolent point of view, maybe they are giving just enough support that the conflict keeps on going without one side winning. It's not about decisions from 3rd grade Nato member governments and what they are able to do or willing to do in political terms or logistical terms. The IFV is just one element of the combined arms team, they need the MBTs to support them and provide support to MBTs. Ukraine needs many more MBTs to defeat Russian forces in country. That means more Challenger 2s, Leopard 2s and probably M1 Abrams. Russia has now mobilized probably well over 1 million men to fight this war and half measures won't work. If we're serious about providing Ukraine the means to end this war we need to send large numbers of both IFVs like Marder and Bradley and large numbers of MBTs and artillery support.

The history regarding the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. At the end of the Soviet Union the then leader Gorbachov made a gentleman agreement with the USA, EU and NATO agreeing that NATO would never expand towards the East - to Russia...(who violated the Minsk agreements? Angela Merkel have said that Minsk was never about peace, but to buy time so that they could arm Ukraine for a future attack against Russia !). So.. what is the history of this dispute? We must go back to the fall of the Soviet Union after which the Ukraine became an independent Country. The people of the Ukraine organized democratic held elections in which Viktor Yanukovych became President. Observers from the EU found nothing wrong with these elections. The voters voting for Yanukovych wished for their Country to stay neutral and to do trade with both the EU and Russia. But the WEF Globalist controlled EU told Yanukovych to only trade with them and he also had to make the Ukraine a member of NATO, or their would be no deal at all. Yanukovych refused. Biden, the CIA and the EU then did everything to remove Yanukovych from power - in which they succeeded in the year 2014 - to replace him by a corrupt Ukraine Oligarch by the name of Poroshenko. As soon as Poroshenko was installed is when he asked Obama ruled America and the EU / NATO for "protection" against Russia, and so the US and the EU promised to protect Poroshenko. Now feeling secure Poroshenko started to discriminate the Russian SPEAKING Ukrainians living in the east of Ukraine because they didn't want to become part of the EU or NATO as they were promised to stay neutral. So the Russian speaking Ukraine citizen got randomly bombarded by the Poroshenko regime and his successor Zelensky for 8 years straight - killing more then 14.000 civilians in the 'process'- to which they finally called Putin for help. Putin meanwhile asked the EU many times to stop their support for this Fascist regime (his pleading efforts were never ever shown in our Western media ! ) and the random killing, but instead they doubled their support for Poroshenko and the current ruler Zelensky. See how this works? Putin doesn't want Ukraine to become a NATO member. What would the USA do if Putin was to place troops and rockets along the south or northern US border.. would the USA say : "O please, go ahead " ? The truth is: WEF / EU Globalists want Putin be removed and replaced by some Russia corrupt traitor doing the wishes of the WEF Globalists. Make no mistake (and we see it clearly now in Canada, Australia and Europe) - the WEF Globalists want to rule the whole world; Communist style with Chinese style "social credit score". The Ukraine people should have decided to stay a neutral Country... works VERY well for Switzerland. If Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine would have formed a neutral zone situated between de EU / NATO and Russia there would never be war again. They should together be able to trade with the EU and with Russia too, and they should be allowed to have their own form of defense (industry). But this is made impossible because of evil people who love to hate, kill and destroy, and because of their love for power over others and their love for money, rather than to live in peace with each other. God said through Jesus to love our neighbor as we love ourselves - meaning everyone. The history and truth regarding this conflict must be told and spread throughout Armed Forces and throughout the world. Because if you believe the Western media - you, as a Soldier - will die for lies.
