My theory for this song is that it's about someone coping with the idea of death and just generally making death sound less scary, alot of the lyrics remind me of the thoughts I had about my constant thoughts on how scary being dead sounds and things I used to calm myself down/cope with death anxiety for example saying that being dead might not be that scary because I'll just feel the same way i did before i was born. I think the lyrics about not being scared anymore could show that the things they're using to cope are working to some extent. The lines about wanting someone to kill this moster that can change my very being with a single touch could be a reference to how sudden death is and how drastically it can change peoples lives. The lines "be it plesant or unpleasant you just have to stomach it" could be about no matter how scary death is you kinda just have to deal with it because its inevitable. I'm not completely sure how the lines about sleeping would apply to this theory, it might be a reference to how some people die suddenly in their sleep or how alot of people use terms like eternal rest as a reference for being dead🧐 the line about an empty shell could also be a reference to how dead bodies are seen as body's with no soul, therefore empty. The lines "it wouldn't be so hard, it wouldn't hurt, and it wouldn't be scary anymore. Right?" Could also be things that the singer is saying to help themselves cope Like "life wouldn't be hard after death, you wouldn't be able to experience pain once your dead, after your dead there's no reason to be scared anymore since you already got it out of the way, right?"
@adelladesuh76098 жыл бұрын
I feel like this is a song of a murderer. Though the translation is "Since I was dead before I was born", the Japanese lyrics don't have a clear subject. They don't say who exactly was dead before they were born, and feels more like a general human fact stating thing. And there's the part about "these painful feelings and dangerous thoughts I'm having of you", "These lumps of rotten emotions I still feel for you", so I'm guessing yandere...? I love you, and also I want to kill you kind of thing? I think the protagonist still has some guilt about their own desires because they call it "a monster". Then they accept it(Be it pleasant or unpleasant you just have to stomach it), and kidnap this "you"(Sleepy? Tired? Then go ahead and take a good rest. Because its while you sleep that you're taken(it isn't necessarily they, because there's no subject for that too)). The protagonist tells the victim that it's just going back to how it used to be, and they don't need to be scared, it isn't going to hurt, and so on. I also thought the "ah"s in the background was the victim's voice.

I’m v e r y late but I have a theory that this is a song from the coin locker baby’s perspective, hence the title of the mom originally planning to get rid of the child. The kid goes throughout life after being found stuffed in the locker wondering why they have these emotions of their birth mother. “It’s only going back to how it used to be” could be a sort of irony implying that’s what the mother wanted, for her life to go back to normal as if nothing happened. “But it’s fun to sing songs about it” could be sarcasm because In coin locker baby the mother sang the tune to the child. Towards the end of the song the kid wonders how the mom could sleep knowing that they abandoned their child. and at the end the “I miss you” is the mom who wanted to have the child but was forced to abandon it in the locker.

@valkyrieagainsttheworld2 жыл бұрын
From what I know, pretty sure Maretu does suffer from depression. He mentions topics correlating to depression occasionally in some of his tweets. Not to mention, his earlier works were a lot more vent-y than what he makes now. Listen to songs like Atashi Baito and Childish Adult to get what I mean, both have straight forward themes about being a NEET which to me seems a lot more like personal topics Ofc, some could be labeled down to creative freedom or exaggeration (such as Suji) but most producers who tend to write dark subject matter often struggle mentally as well

My interpretation of this song is that Miku is obsessively crushing over someone. Not just like a romantic crush, but she has erotic thoughts and fantasies of them while they don't even know, like preying on them. She hates herself for feeling this way but just can't stop. The lyrics "Since I was dead before I was born" probably means she thinks she was born "sick" like this and it was destined to be anyway. And the lines "I've got nothing inside" and "An empty shell" mean she's so obsessed with them that she feels like she has no purpose without them. I dunno, just me?
@ducklord41264 жыл бұрын
Very interesting! I actually interpreted it completely differently. Those "rotten feelings I still feel for you" being a past relationship the singer failed to get over, calling for help to rescue from the "monster", that is the festering feelings that have even pushed the singer to suicide ideation, considering themselves an "empty shell", that it "wouldn't be scary anymore" and rationalizing their pain with that "they were dead before they born", as in I was dead once, no big deal if I go back again. The last seconds kinda remind me of a heart monitor too, alluding to perhaps a failed attempt. Your thoughts?

Skylark Hibari i'm going to put in my two cents. i liked it when it first came out, was in the fandom for a bit until chaos ensued. here's a few reasons why i despise that fandom. a) some people in the fandom are... they need help. for example, there was a post about this girl who had nightmares(?) about sans or whatever and she'd freak out at the sight of a classroom anatomy skeleton. seriously, now? b) the people who ship sans and papyrus. it doesn't matter if they're skeletons. it's still incest, and it's disgusting to see it promoted. c) all of the comments that blew up EVERYWHERE asking if x was an undertale reference. kill or be killed was NOT coined in undertale. this alao applies to the comments trying to bring up undertale (the touhou community HATES undertale for this reason, look up bad apple and so many people are mentioning the spinoff in the comments) and finally d) so many people act as if undertale is the be all, end all of video games. it's a nice indie game, i will admit, and deserves the praise it gets for coming from humble roots like it did. but i see many who believe it to be the best game ever (are entitled to their own opinions, yes, but what comes after is just...) blow up on people who don't share their same opinion. example: i saw a dude saying "i hope u die nobody can insult undertale like this who's with me" and this is why i can't bring myself to be part of it, no offense intended as this is just my experience

@valkyrieagainsttheworld4 жыл бұрын
Durpness Sucks I have a similar idea yet a bit different. I think it’s about someone who still has feelings after a breakup, causing them to have these suicidal thoughts over the situation (“since I was dead before I was born” “If only I could return to before I was born (dead). I’m not scared anymore” Won’t someone kill this monster” “it wouldn’t be so hard, it wouldn’t hurt, it wouldn’t be scary anymore”). The last few in the parentheses in the song sound in the context of the singer saying that going back to how things used to be (dead) won’t be scary now. If not that then they are saying that life won’t be hard or scary cause they are dead, still tying to suicidal behaviors

Perhaps being born in this song means finding love? So Miku was dead before they found love and they're going back to the time when "they were dead"?

In my perspective I think the song is about a girl that's depressed and possibly gets abused, I think she gets abused because in one lyric she says "won't someone kill this monster?" referring to her abuser. I know she's suicidal because she keeps on saying "since I was dead before I was born" and "its only going back to how it used to be" and at the end of the song it says "game over" meaning she committed suicide

If I’m honest, with disillusioned ending with “why was I born ? That’s because…” this is the song that follows up on that sentence
@clovest3rs2 жыл бұрын
I might be correct because Disillusioned is about love and crushes, and how the person wants them to be true whil this song has quite a lot of lyrics depicting love too. So if that’s the case, this song is about how the person was played like a game and they caught onto what they were doing. they grew to hate on them, and grew courage to stand up for them. And game over could either just show death, or even death of the friendship/relationship.

I believe this song is about a girl or boy who loves some one ( in an unhealthy manner ) or is attached to some one ( in an unhealthy manner ) or hates a past lover ( in an unhealthy manner ) and they hate those emotions and they tear them apart and overwhelmed them and in return they want to die because of the toll this emotions are having on them. These emotions make them feel like shit because ( the singer might be holding the one they love back and keeping them chained to an abusive and toxic relationship. And they don’t want to let them go ) or for other reasons such as ( the love interest is in another relationship or doesn’t want to be with the singer ) ( or the singer hates the past lover so much that it fills them with guilt and resentment towards them selves for hating them as much as they do aka thoughts of killing said past lover ) They talk about needing some one to reach out to like a therapist to help get rid of these thoughts of love/attachment for the other person and to drag them out of their depressive suicidal state. they don’t get said help or don’t reach out or therapy doesn’t work for them and end up dying in their sleep peacefully in the least harmful way possible so they have nothing to fear when passing on. They also paint dying as something they have been through before to help the singer be okay with passing on. ( and when the singer says that they will be a hollow shell it means that won’t feel these aching over whelming emotions any more ) at the end of the video, they actually die with the beeps being their life line. The i miss you part is the singers last thought ( before or after ) they died, saying that they missed the one they loved/ were attached to. ( if the singer hated the past lover that was probably them admitting that they actually did still care about them and didn’t hate them as much as the singer thought they did ) These were the possible scenarios I thought this song could apply to.

This song is about how inevitable death is and why we shouldn't be scared of it. Technically, we were all "dead before we were born" - we couldn't hear, touch, do anything, because we didn't exist. Same with death. Sure, there could be an afterlife for the soul, but the body? Consider that thing long gone. Therefore, it'll "all go back to how it was". Let me do the token analysis. The beeps at the beginning are a heart monitor, and the weird "ah"s are the mother being in pain. The heavy guitar that comes in after represents the child suddenly being, you know... alive. The "you" in the song is death. The child goes on to be terrified of death, not believing in any religious things, possibly due to reading lots of nonfiction. Those are the "painful feelings". They talk about how much death must heart and how heartbreaking the thought of it is. However, they eventually realize that their fear is stupid, because it they'll just be unborn, and it's inevitable anyway. That's where the "rearranging" comes from. They have one thought about death now - it's natural. And due to their lack of religious beliefs, they don't think they have a soul, so therefore, they have nothing inside. Eventually, they become curious about death, so curious that they contemplate suicide just to see if they're correct even though they aren't depressed. This thought sticks with them for the rest of the song. But one day, something happens, and they ACTUALLY become depressed. At least, that what everybody thinks. Their suicidal thoughts led people to believe that they need help, even though they weren't actually going to go through with it anyway. So the first part of the second verse is actually sarcastic. The monster mentioned is death, though. They keep trying to explain to people that whatever happens after death, they have to deal with it. He even says that they might die in their sleep, making people paranoid. So eventually, just to prove their point to people, they actually do it, saying that it wouldn't be hard, it wouldn't hurt, and it wasn't scary. They are rushed to the hospital, but don't make it, as shown by the "GAME OVER". However, then the "I MISS YOU" message appears with the random kanji. There is a reason to fear death after all. The people around you might die in a different way. And interestingly, the girl is the girl from Mind Brand. Meaning that they could very well be connected. Actually, I have a theory that almost all of MARETU's non-vent or Mitchie M diss tracks are connected, and told from the perspective of the Mind Brand girl (this one isn't), so that supports this.

Rewriting this comment because I think I could write the theory better now instead of all over the place like before. I believe this song could be about an abduction and Stockholm syndrome. Slight tw but nothing descriptive I think. (Also, I'm open to many interpretations and have multiple different theories myself, but I'm sharing this theory because I felt it made the most sense :D) First of all, I should share the whole thing that got this theory going, and this line I'll explain the most because it's being interpreted rather than used to make a story. The line, "Since I was dead before I was born, it's only going back to how things used to be." I interpreted it to possibly mean dissociation. Probably heavy enough they feel dead from the world in a sense. The way I got there was by breaking down the sentence into "Since I didn't exist before, I'm only not existing again.", or "Since I wasn't alive before, I must've been dead. Now I'm not alive again so I have to be dead again." The last interpretation is more with the "If it's not this, it must be the opposite." way of thinking. Anyways, another thing people often correlate with feeling 'nonexistent' or 'dead inside' is dissociation, which is exactly the feeling this line is talking about. (They also state they've got nothing inside or they're an empty shell after repeating this line, but in parentheses, which could show they're trying to treat that information kind of like a footnote. Everyone knows the footnote is there, but no one reads it closely.) Okay, now that line is out of the way, there's something really interesting I want to say. I believe the singer is in a hospital of sorts, possibly in a coma induced dream while the song takes place. There is no lines to support them being in a hospital which is why I think they could be in a coma, but there's plenty of background sound that correlates with that of a hospital. The more tale-tell sign is the ticking in the beginning and end which symbolizes a heart monitor and then the wave sound in the beginning and end which symbolizes a ventilator. But there's also other noises like a telephone ringing at 0:57, 1:57, and 2:14! And then there is that "Ah" sound… Now truthfully I'm not fully sure what this sound is, but I believe it could be nurses talking about the vitals of the singer? Maybe the singer can't fully process the words so they really only hear "Ah", but that's only a guess. Let me know what y'all think the "Ah" could be. Okay, now to get into what the singer is singing about, and if you read the summary in the beginning, you'll know I'm about to talk about some stuff that could be triggering for abductions and toxic relationships. Please keep this in mind while reading and stay safe. (Also, here's another trigger warning for a sad ending) Now first of all, there are multiple lines which support the singer has been abducted, possibly from their own room while they slept. The lines that support this is "Because it's while you're asleep, that they take you." at 2:32 with "It hurts. It hurts. It's heartbreaking isn't it? But it's fun to sing songs about. At you, at you, standing right before me. It's so easy!" at 1:07. Sadly though, there's many lines that support the singer loves their abductor, and it's interesting because they know it's wrong but can't help but love them. Maybe it could even be someone they knew before the abduction like their parent or partner? But that's completely unsupported so think what you will of that. Sorry, kind of got off track and rambled. The evidence that supports the Stockholm theory is actually not the singer outright stating they love their abductor, but rather the barely concealed romanticization of it all. Like the main line, "Since I was dead before I was born, it's only going back to how things used to be." Plain romanticization. They're relating something to a past event instead of stating it as is, which in this sentence is death and scary of in itself. They even state that they're not scared anymore at 1:55 after telling themselves they've experienced this before. Then there are lines like "It hurts. It hurts. It's heartbreaking isn't it? But it's fun to sing songs about." at 1:07, which means they are romanticizing what hurts by singing about it rather than dealing with it or stating it as it is. Some lines I want to talk indepth about is these lines, "These lumps of rotten emotions I still feel for you, make me miserable as they despairingly pile up." at 0:58, "Won't anyone help me with this miserable sorrow smeared with my feelings? Won't someone kill this monster that can change my very being with but a single touch?" at 2:07 and, "Be it pleasant or unpleasant you just have to stomach it." at 2:24. The line about rotten emotions is most likely talking about the love they have for their abductor. The reason I think it's the love they have for their abuser is because if it was their hatred, then that would be even worse. It would mean the singer has gone so far that they believe the abuser only is trying to help them even while they keep them trapped, etc. They also probably wouldn't call the abductor a monster… But I think they could be getting love bombed as that's the most effective way to toxically make someone love you even while you're constantly betraying or hurting them. The second line is one of the most damning evidence that the singer isn't completely gone yet, that there's still hope they'll be willing to escape. For one, they realize they're feelings are 'wrong', as it's all sorrowful and smeared. Then they call the abductor a monster, which is a breath of fresh air as that means they recognize the abductor is still in the wrong, even if it's very deep inside them. Then, the best relief of it all, is that they still want help. They still want to be out of this situation even as the thin lines of love, hatred, fear, and sorrow become interlaced. This last line is the most interesting of it all, "Be it pleasant or unpleasant you just have to stomach it." which correlates very well with the end of the line before, "Won't someone kill this monster that can change my very being with but a single touch?" This actually supports that the abductor could be love bombing as the 'Monster' is giving pleasant touches like hugs, hand holding, and even supportive words or gestures will work. Then they'll also give unpleasant touches like hitting, trapping, or verbal abuse. Sadly, the singer feels trapped and like they have to just put up with it. Wrapping this up, I believe the singer was finally found and brought to the hospital, most likely wounded from the abductor. In a bitter twist, the singer dies (symbolized by the game over) still missing the very person who costed them their life. _____________ Thank you for reading this far if you did and I hope you enjoyed my little theory! I think the main meaning of this song is probably about loving someone you know you shouldn't and trying to make something scary sweeter than what it is. Remember to not let this person rule your world if possible and that you are worth something priceless. I'm very sorry if you had to experience this and thank you for making it this far. If anyone else wants me to go more in depth for a line I wouldn't mind doing so, and I would love to hear y'all's interpretations if you'll be willing to share. I wish you a wonderful day, don't forget to drink water, and see ya around! Tldr: Singer gets abducted and love bombed. Singer develops Stockholm syndrome for the abductor whilst being confused about the whole situation. Then the singer gets rescued but succumbs to wounds caused by the abductor, still missing them to the bitter end.

I'm pretty sure it's about how "people around me were probably happier before I was born" so s/he killed themselves for the better. What's even more cold is that they didn't even care they just thought of themselves as a burden and accepted death like they were supposed to die like this
