Besides how she treated you too, it concerns me that the mentor sounds like she's been controlling what her clients are "allowed" to do with their hair.

My old stylist was like that. Usually when I came in, she would tell me what "would look best." For her, this was short hair, but I wanted to grow it out a bit, around my shouler to upper back range, so I asked her to just even it out / trim it to where it would look better as it grew out. She said she could work with that and got to cutting. Unfortunately, I was tired that day and decided to doze off a bit. When I paid attention to what she was doing, she ended up cutting most of it off saying this was for the best. Never stayed saw her again. Luckily, one of the other stylist asked if I wouldn't mind being with them and it has been wonderful. Girl got my hair looking the best it has ever-looked (in my opinion of course). Currently, my hair around 3/4th of my neck, getting there slowly

Normally long hair girl here. Have gone short in the past (think barrettes only short) and always liked it ok, but grew it back out. Shaved it off 2 months ago and I love it. Been using clippers on it every few days when I don't have time for a razor. I'll probably keep it for several months, if not years. On the other hand, my mom knew a girl with knee length hair. Went on a mission and the man who was in charge of the missionaries told her she should cut her hair (so it wouldn't take so much time every day). She chopped it all off, then cried when she found out it wasn't an actual requirement, but his misguided assumption about hair care. It took her tons more time to maintain than her long hair ever did. It all depends on circumstances like hair texture, curly/straight, how short you cut it, etc.
@AlexJReil
@AlexJReil Жыл бұрын
I get the long hair thing. I have had knee length hair before. Though it takes a while to brush, in lots of ways it’s easier to control than a bob, since it can be put in braids and things. In my perspective, all hair lengths come with different drawbacks and benefits. Do you want to fuss with four feet of detangling, a cowlick that won’t stay down in spite of hair spray, the need for constant touch ups? More hair does not equal more work necessarily. Besides, male missionaries shaving every day takes time too. I’m sorry she had that experience.
@Lauren_P_

I’m so sorry for that girl. I did a mission trip one time where the man over it tried to control everything. We were all required to have a hair lice treatment when we got back into town. Not a check to see if we had them, a full treatment.

I'd let my hair get down to my hips, and at most, cut five to six inches off. It was still down to the middle of my back, and all I ever did was put it in a bun. After having my son, I started doing less and less to it, until I realized one day, around thanksgiving, that I hadn't washed or brushed it for over a month. It took HOURS to untangle and I was so embarrassed that I told myself I'd never let that happen again. Except it did. Two more times. :( Then I realized I was dealing with postpartum depression, despite it being a year aftwe giving birth, because my hormones were still severely out of wack. But I'd been watching your videos religiously on tiktok, and then I found your youtube channel and binged everything I coukd, and you gave me the courage to admit everything to my stylist and ask for a change. A BIG one. She was SO excited and IMMEDIATELY said "YES GIRL, YES!!!" So for my birthday a few weeks ago, I got a huge amount of babylights that she toned pink and purple for me, and she took like 10 or 12 inches off. Now it sits right beneath my chin and frames my face, and took like ten years off my apparent age. I haven't felt this good about myself in years. :) Oh, and I found out my hair is also majorly curly, with a mix of 2c and 3a curls and waves. 😂😂 Like to the point she had to dry and straighten it to finish cutting it properly. I don't know if pregnancy did that or if it was always like that and I just never knew because it was so long and weighed down. But anyway. Thank you for the courage. :) And for all of your videos. This one hit especially close to home.

I hate people like these, I was in beauty school and my mentor was like this one day she even made me cry she didn't saw me crying at least. Everything I did was wrong I genuinely think she had a thing against me because I was the youngest of the class and she couldn't stand me doing my best even when she was the worst teacher ever she didn't teach us the right technique so I always made sure to know what we were learning ahead of time so I could watch videos and of course her technique was different. She didn't teach us anything really she always was talking about her life, her travels and basically being like "look how fabolous I am". The day I cried she made me feel like trash just because I didn't do well a blowout, i didn't stand up to myself because in that point of my life I had little to no self esteem and I always been sensitive so she took advantage of that fact and she even laughed at my face for using a phrase in the wrong way. I was demotivated to pursue my career further.

With how the mentor talks I wouldn't want to go to her to get my hair cut. It sounds like she would try to talk me out of what I want to do or just do what she wants anyways. Come on "people with long hair don't want short hair" what kind of bull is that. I have gone from waist length to pixie cut before and loved it. I go back and forth between long and short all the time. My hair grows too fast to keep up on maintaining short hair. I would hair to get it cut like every two weeks and I don't want to be there that often. To give you an idea how fast. A year after my pixie cut my hair was between my shoulders. Sadly, my hair breaks all the time and is thin as hell, so it never gets past the top of my pants. Way too much breakage. I chop it short when it gets there.

I've been all the way from shaved head (for brain surgery) to hair past my butt. I had pretty long hair before my first brain surgery. Right before the surgery, I had my stylist do an extremely short pixie, then I went ahead and shaved it completely after the surgery. They shaved what was basically a path from one ear, across the top of my head, to the other ear, and the rest of my hair was full of iodine and... other fluids. Shaving it just made sense. I just figured that it's only hair and totally leaned into the bald look until it regrew a little. Sometimes I wore hats, but that was more because it was December and January, so my bald head got cold easily. Legions of friends and family made hand knitted and crocheted hats and head wraps for me--some of very dubious workmanship, but they tried. That was 14 years ago and I still have all of them. Enough that I could wear a different one every day of the month and still not run out. The thought of a wig was just silly to me. I don't judge women who go that route--regardless of whether they have hair loss from surgery, chemo, alopecia, or any other reason--but I was perfectly comfortable rocking the bald look until my hair grew back. Even got a couple compliments about how I "had a great head shape for totally bald" and they wished they were brave enough to try it. Never could decide if that was a backhand compliment or not, but I went with it. I never let it get too far past my shoulders after I shaved it. Long or shoulder length I can manage, but in between it gets frizzy and wants to go in all directions or stand on end like the fretful porpentine. Then I had another brain surgery several years ago and decided to shave it again. I've kept it in a pixie since then, but I'm thinking about growing it out, not just shoulder length but actually butt-length long again. I'll probably change my mind again before it gets to my shoulders, so who knows. My hair grows pretty fast, but I wish I could speed it through the ackward lengths when its between pixie and shoulder length and between shoulder and actually long. The point of all this rambling is that there's no such thing as "long-hair women" and "short-hair women," just women who happen to have long hair or short hair--or no hair!--at any given time. Assuming otherwise makes you an ass in my book.

They said “I love your hair so much omg” and I said “don’t get too attached” and asked for a drastic cut. I showed inspo and it was like a mullet with a fringe and she said it would take a lot of styling as it was in the picture. I told her I’m a busy mum with hardly any time and I wanted my curly hair to sit and look intentional with just a quick tousle and air dry and omg did they nail it. They were talking all along about how amazing my hair was but I was just ready for a change. Next time I went in I had actually shaved it 😂 (went with my 4 sons to get their hair done). I want to go back soon and it’s growing back well (this was 2 years ago) so I’ll get a wolf cut sort of thing and it thinned out a bit I think. Been trying to decide what colour would look good.

That's the line. And on the topic of mentors. Life is really easier with people that are not treating you so toxic. Cos you have to see them Every Single Work day. As a female who enjoys going from long hair to short hair and back again as I want to. I will often let my hair grow down to midlength down my back and then get bored and find the nearest hairdressers who will do it to get it all cut super short. I am talking pixie cut, or often even shorter (got my partner to do a number 2 all over during lock down). This video speaking facts though, once you have long hair it can be suuuppeeerrr hard to find a hairdressers willing to cut it all short for the fear that you might not like how it looks once it's short. Like.. I get that's a risk? Some people genuinely don't realise how it changes your face shape appearance or how it feels, but if they've been given the talk about it, then yes, give the client the cut. Some of us genuinely do know how it looks when short and like all kinds of lengths! Far as I'm concerned your style of hairdressing would be a godsend for someone like me.

old stylist is wrong! I had golden blond brown hair halfway down my back. I chopped it off to a chin lengh bob. Loved it and kept cutting it off when it grew out . So much less work to take care of ❤

I'm not a stylist, but my understanding is that it's a method of applying highlights that's described as "painting them on." I believe it's spelled balayage.

See you shouldn't have even talked that much to this woman... I would've told her the 1st time it's not her business anymore what a client does with another stylist regardless of the relationship.
