As a freshman in college, I think that budgeting is sincerely important. It was a good tip to save money, but don't save money for "parties," and "going out." Those aren't priorities. Hidden costs are everywhere. Orientation fees, housing, meal plans, laundry, food, club fees, greek life fees, emergencies, co-pay on university health care. These things add up to thousands of dollars. Yes, go out. Have fun. But it is not a priority, and definitely not what you should be saving for.
@mlilym177 жыл бұрын
I agree, but most of this stuff is covered in my tuition -- minus emergencies and greek life/clubs because those are optional

Hey can y’all tell me like what group to avoid or who to not hang out with because I’m 16 but time fly by so it’s good to know now ya know?
@lid.or.whatever4 жыл бұрын
@@myshiteu4934 Well, if you mean what groups to avoid in high school, definitely avoid people who do not care about their future. Most of the time, it's not about "avoiding" rather than just staying within a group of people that have goals and want to work hard. I know that personally, I am not the best "ScHoLaR" student, but since I am in a program that separates my classes from regular education, I was very influenced by the "sMaRt" kids, so now as a senior that is about to graduate in a couple months, that really helped. If you see that your friends don't take any advanced classes, do not gaf about their grades and such, you do not have to cut them off, just take those advanced classes on your own and make friends there too. As you grow and get your priorities set, you'll find your friends shift, and that is ok. Just be kind and responsible first and foremost and you will be fine. Good luck!!

Supplemental advice! 1) While getting a 4 or 5 on AP tests is super awesome and can get you out of classes, if that doesn't happen and you end up getting a 1, 2 or 3, don't worry because it doesn't hurt you at all! 2) It's also so important to go to your advisor!!! But also do your own research because sometimes even advisors can mess up 3) Vitamin C is your best friend!

I know that the cost of college is high because of things like tuition, boarding, and books-but as a person in college right now, there is such a thing as just not going out to eat all the time, or avoiding spending discretionary money on parties? People from lower-income families do not have the luxury of going to college to have fun.
@Bianca-wm8wj7 жыл бұрын
You definitely can cut spending on frivolous things, but saving money to go out and have fun is still a good tip. Because if all you do is study and stay in your dorm the homesickness will kick in way too soon and for some people even depression.
@erinconvey51927 жыл бұрын
Kyah Probst you can be broke as hell and still have fun in college. You can show up to parties just because you don't have money doesn't mean your social life has to suck
@KyahProbst7 жыл бұрын
Erin And this is based on your vast experience coming growing up in a lower-income family? I only ask because there is an astronomical difference between being "broke" and being "poor"-but I am merely being pedantic, not presumptuous. I wasn't saying that you can't have fun in college for fiscal reasons, of course not! but I am saying that you should certainly save up for school supplies, money in case something breaks or stops working, and any unexpected academic/hygienic purchases before you save up for going out to restaurants and parties. I just wanted to add to her tip-if you happen to come from a place where going out to eat is an acceptable, and primary, form of discretionary spending, then that's great, but for many people, it is not.

I would say if your school offers both dual credit and AP, take the dual credit! The credits are a for sure, so you don't have to test, and unless it's an IV League the college will be more apt to take a dual credit course over AP!
@lexi_has_issues5 жыл бұрын
Just be aware that some places rank dual credit on a lower scale (my AP scale is on a 5.0 and dual credit is a 4.5), so if you’re relying on ranking in high school for acceptance/financial aid, it may hurt more than help.
@AbbyGoose4 жыл бұрын
at least where I live, dual credit is only guaranteed for in-state schools. I’ve heard many horror stories where someone took dual credit classes and then went out of state for school and none of the classes transferred because the schools didn’t accept them. so for someone who wants to go out of state for university, AP is more useful for me. so base your decisions on where you want to go to school. what you said is very true though!
@danielleml7 жыл бұрын
in terms of the AP scores tip, AP scores matter on a college-by-college basis. Some colleges accept scores, some accept certain scores, & some don't accept any at all. Anyone's best bet would be to double check with the colleges they're applying to/the college they are attending :)

I am going to college in three weeks. But not to be negative at all but money just doesn't grow on tree's. I have saved next to nothing because all the supplies I needed came out of my paycheck and that goes for clothes as well. I am looking for a job in the city I am moving to because I plan on staying there for the rest of my life. Without the help of my parents I can say it is quite hard. But from what I know from other friends getting a job is going to help you. People don'tgo to college thinking only about parties. Me, myself all I can think about is finishing my 8-10 years in university then getting a job to financally pay for the life I am wanting to live (politics and law) But overall they are good ideas. People sugar coat what it is like and simply it is ard for most viewers. thanks xoxo

Rachel Bennett my school only allows 3 absences and you fail if your late or absent after the 3rd ( that depends on how the professor takes attendance) and your grade drops for every absence ( again depending on the professor).

One thing I'd say is that you should keep your class times and locations in mind when registering! Don't give yourself a class 10 mins after one class that is in a building across campus! Also if you know you're not a morning person, don't make yourself be one. Register early and get classes in the afternoon. I don't have any classes before noon this semester, and that's totally doable!

if your school has dual enrollment, I'd suggest taking those classes over AP classes any day lol. I live in Texas and I took 6 dual enrollment classes and a few AP classes and ended up going into college w/ 18 credit hours so I was already a semester and a half ahead. I only took the AP classes for a GPA boost but this differs by district. Because of the dual enrollment classes, I literally had no stress over the AP exams and opted out of taking them as well.

If your school offers Dual Credit classes, take them! I can't speak for other states, but every Uni/college in Texas has to accept dual credit classes by law. It's guarenteed compared to AP classes.

I'm attending college in upstate new york in the fall and i was wondering what kind of winter jacket you have or what you would recommend!!!
@emmaholl26287 жыл бұрын
Camryn I live in upstate and I recommend a lands end heavy coat with a hood. Also you probably want a coat that go down to almost your knees. The wind makes it really cold up here

I have a Calvin Klein coat that’s knee length and it’s amazing. You want to make sure your jackets are thick and long.
