Finally I found somebody that knows what is talking and says C6 to the high C, must people erroneously call it C5 when the tenor or the soprano is giving really C6, the high C how many people knows it…thanks for giving the proper musically name. If central C is C4 , two octaves high is C6 , correct.

I think this was still “fat” Callas……that sound is so…….ˈzäftiɡ. And yet two of my favourite recordings were her ‘59 Gioconda and her last studio recording of Norma.

The note is so fat and round! Yet, those of us who are familiar with her e flats in Nabucco and Aida know very well that this much lower note!!! is in no way Callas' full-fledged fortissimo. And to think that she was sick here!

The “fat” Callas was sick a lot, her legs hurt, she couldn’t move or act the way she wanted, she sweat a lot. She was over 200 lbs & unhealthy. So, being a perfectionist, she dieted sensibly & got her weight below 120 lbs, which helped her health & her acting & movements. Her voice was lighter & she sang mostly bel canto Operas & was the Greatest, most moving Traviata ever. The flaws in her voice problems later on were probably caused by singing everything early on, such as Wagner, Aida, which hurt her voice. Once she realized this, she stopped most heavy roles and concentrated on bel canto Operas.

Numerous singers lost weight for health reasons but their voices were never the same. Deborah Voigt never sounded the same after the Ariadne little black dress scandal and she went on to have gastric bypass and lost a lot of weight; Carol Vaness became a glamorous diva onstage after weight loss but the voice lost amplitude and ease as opposed to when she was heavier. I saw Jane Eaglen sang Norma once; she was majestic, but she barely moved onstage. It must have been terrible being so heavy but blessed with a beautiful voice. I would not want to be in their shoes trying to make the decision to lose weight and possibly lose their voice and career.

Wrong Callas had dermatomyositis , a disease of connected tissue which inflames muscles and skin ,her doctor confirmed , Maria callas naturally had a powerful and heavy voice supported with perfect technique , please stop spreading misinformation , have a good day
