Well done Maria on producing another excellent video. You have really had a wonderful tour, and it is so kind of you to devote so much of your time to enabling us all to share the journey and spectacular scenery with you. I would never have expected so much civilisation to have existed in such remote places. Norway and her people are truly remarkable.

Thank you Mark :-). Yes it actually feels very surprising to me as well, being up there. Some of the towns date back from 1700s and the Sami people were there long before that. Tough people they must have been, surviving in that rough climate.

Hello Maria, I have watched all your videos in about 2 months time and just love them! The incredible beauty you capture and your peaceful voice give me a sense of calm and peace. I grew up in Seattle and the forest scenes remind me of home and I can understand why my Nordic ancestors emigrated there. I have lived in California since my teens, but still the forest calls to me. My name, Keith, means forest dweller in Scots Gaelic. I don’t think my mother knew that, but it is very appropriate. It always feels like home to me. I enjoy the rain I grew up with and the snow for a couple of weeks every winter and I miss that. Northern California just doesn’t have the same distinct seasons. But it is much too late to move with family and friends all rooted in the Bay Area, I am 74 now and single after losing my wife 15 years ago. I admire greatly your cinematic eye and your ability to capture beauty. That has been a thread in my own life documenting my extended family on video since 1980. As a young boy I wanted to be a TV cameraman, but the demands of raising a family changed that, but photography remains a way to express having a “good eye” for seeing beauty. In 2019 I took an expedition ship up the coast of Norway and was overwhelmed by the constant beauty! You are so lucky to live there! I think it is the most beautiful of the 31 countries I have visited! I love your videos! You are my favorite on KZbin! Please don’t stop! You give me joy! Keith Petterson

It did not come up in my feed, but tonight I decided to look to see if you had posted anything yet, and here it was! Wow! What beautiful places you have shown us! Just an amazing tour. You are fortunate that you were able to travel to these places in your work. Senja was quite amazing. Bugøynes reminds me of so many of the tiny outports in Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada. Tromsø really is spectacular! Much larger than I would have expected, and I had never heard that it is called the "Paris of the North." You must have been so happy to get home after all that travelling and teaching. Jeg onsker deg og Bendik en God Jul og Godt Nyttar (don't know how to get the different letters on my computer - just copied and pasted your names for the towns!) and I look forward to seeing what's next for you in 2024! We had a wonderful trip - in 2015? - visiting a number of towns in northern Norway in the early autumn - as part of a larger trip that also saw other major cities on the west coast. Northern places we visited included Tromsø, Kilpisjärvi (Finland), Alta, Karasjok (to see Sámi Parliament - wife and I given nice spontaneous tour by librarian) , and Honnigsvåg and we drove to Gjesvær and did some tourist hikes/stops. The people were wonderful, the scenery was great - especially the drive from Tromsø to Kilpisjärvi and the hiking around Gjesvær and Kilpisjärvi . But I'm glad we skipped Hammerfest - the claims the city makes plus all the 'polar bears' would turn me off. If you land at the airport in Yellowknife, Canada you are greeted by an out-of-place taxidermists' polar bear far far distant from where one exists but at least Yellowknife is the capital of a jurisdiction with lots of polar bears. It was really interesting to see your northern scenery with more winter snow than we saw - a special beauty of the season.

That sounds like an amazing trip! I hope to see Karasjok one day too. I have only been to Kautokeino. Lions are also used as a coat of arms in Norway, so I don't know how accurate people were about the animals and their natural habitats when they chose these things back in the day 😂. I didn't mind it in Hammerfest, I think it makes sense given the history of the town.

Nei, vi kaller Hammerfest den nordligste 'city', ikke 'town'. Og det er visstnok fordi en by er definert av en befolkning på over 10 000 som vi har! Takk for en fin tur med begge to 😀

Ja, det sto på info-plakaten i Hammerfest "the northernmost town in the world". Veldig kult.

@Mariaandtheforest
@Mariaandtheforest 9 ай бұрын
@@maumaumau59 Generally a town is "bygd" in norwegian. If it feels more like a tiny village you would call it "landsby". Its complicated though with what to call each place, some places have been named city and then gone back to town and vise versa. Also the limit to call your town a city is only 5000 inhabitants. So it can all be a bit confusing x).

Hammerfest used to be the Northernmost town in the world, until Honningsvåg got its official "bystatus" in 1996, right before a change in the Norwegian laws that requires a municipality to have at least 5000 inhabitants. Snuck its way in right as the door was closing, having less than half the required number of people by today's laws, a law that went in to effect a month or so after the municipality declared its own village, a town :) Has been quite a bit of debate and argument around this, as it was one of the major tourist brandings Hammerfest used, and to this day, still uses, but less commonly.

It is a very beautiful place, and I definitely recommend going there in the summer. Så fint å se! Jeg er født i Tromsø og oppvokst med utsikt til nordenden av Senja. Men jeg har aldri vært på tur i Finnmark. Får lyst til å dra dit etter å ha sett denne videoen. 😊

I have lived both in Trømso and Kirkenes and have visited Bugøynes and Senja, what magnificent places... there is just something about the Arctic, the feeling that you are at the end of the world, so isolated and quiet. A place where your soul is at rest. Thank you for taking me there again 💙

Beautiful travel video! 27:10 are those seed pods of Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus spp., Engkallslekta in Norwegian)? People in the UK sow this species into grass-rich areas to turn them into more of a flower meadow. Not a rarity but since you mentioned your interest in botany!

I was hoping they miiiight be the pods of Polarflokk, the rare plant we were looking for, as it was growing from where the Polarflokk leaves were in some places. I unfortunately did not film that though so the clips here is all I have to show. It might definitely also be the one you suggest, I will look at it, thank you :-)

I enjoyed this video because I have stood in the same place where you did in Senja in 2020 (Devil's Teeth and Bergsbotn utsiktsplattform) as well as climbing Hesten in the deep snow. It was fantastic to see it again and hear your wonderful description. Arctic Norway is beautiful and your videos have done it justice.

How nice! We wanted to hike up to Segla too, but the locals adviced us not to in the snow. If I go back I hope I can find the time for that :-). Thank you, I am glad you liked it :-)

This must be one of my favorite videos out of all that you've made so far. Thank you so much for allowing us to road trip with you this way! The landscape is wondrous, but especially so seen through your artistic and appreciative eye. I'm sorry that your work is so tiring, even though I'm sure it offers a lot of rewards. Wishing you both some rest now! Happy holidays from over here in WA State, USA and much love to you both. I'm so grateful for your channel. It brings calm. 💗

I feel blessed for being able to witness such a vlog. It truly feels magical yet real, Lol. I mean deeply heartfelt. I’m beyond grateful for your sharing ❤ p.s. I feel like I’ve touched the places while having a grilled fish. It gave a heavenly atmosphere. My very best things, nature and fishes 💘
