Yeah, I'm so happy that children are people now. 😂 In all seriousness, when we (late 80s kiddos) were kids, we were to be quiet, visible, and obedient. All of our quirks were to be corrected, and any questioning was frowned upon. Now as a parent, our kiddos can discover themselves and grow without being treated as a non-human hindrance.

This point deserves more consideration than people are willing to admit. I grew up on the South and was around people, and dated men, who were raised on the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality. Who doesn't respect a work ethic and accountability, right? The debate about chores is not something I care to engage at the moment, but two men I dated who were the worst communicators had begun doing renovations and home construction with their families from a very young age. They couldn't sit still. They were also financially traumatized and very frugal, and didn't realize they were very selfish. They became abusive because the way I live my life now is to find peace. I was pushed hard as a child, too, but found people who made it a mission to heap love on me. And I relaxed. They wanted me to work harder to assist them with increasing their home value. As infuriating as it was, I also saw the trauma and pain. They were passing the exploitation onto me. You may argue I'm lazy like they did, but I know that's not true. I was willing to communicate and they weren't. They had been traumatized into their way of life. Newer studies have shown consistently that a carefree childhood produces the best adjusted future adults. It's time we talk about it more.

I remember a reddit the other day where a sheltered pregnant lady was getting gaslit by her ma into making her think her husband could cause fetal alcoholism to the unborn. Silly as that sounds, I don't think men really get how stressful gestating a child is. Dads-to-be don't have to watch their drug/alcohol/food intake, stress levels, watch out for bodily harm, etc. Sure a lot of stuff the father can have included in his DNA, but during time growing in utero is a whole other ball game.

I had an Uber driver tell me he’s recently divorced and how happy he is. I thought it was harmless and then he proceeded to say her friends told her she could do better than him. Im a single Black woman and honestly this relationship game people play confuses me. I remember growing up and the women in my family telling me to never have a man that doesn't provide. To always make sure I have my own money set aside, and always know where Im laying my head. It's the woman who risks a lot by going through pregnancy. I personally wouldn't do it, I know the body damage, our sexual education teacher was honest about it. None of the girls in my class wants to be a mother. I had my Sterilisation, I am safe and my tocophobia doesn't hit that hard when I see something related to pregnancy. My boyfriend doesn't want kids too, funny thing is he also had a mild form of tocophobia which is gone since his Vasectomy. A grwat relationship only goes sour with parenthood duties in my opinion. My life is so good and when I see mothers I see "changed" bodies and a lot of misery. I don't get why some women can be talked into motherhood, that's a sign of a bad home when you never learned to put yourself first. That's the outcome when parents pretend to love their daughters but don't respect them. Time to heal so society can move forward.

I almost passed away during child birth and my body is destroyed. I also gained alot of weight from the stress and anxiety of raising a child all alone. Baby daddy chose not to be present and currently is out living his best life with his new girlfriend while I stay home trapped. I have not done anything fun since my child has been born. If I could go back in time I probably would have remained a virgin for life?

I’m with you Maria. Men just don’t get it. I met a man last year who I thought really had it going on. However, he started talking about his ex and it made me see the light. I had to get the eff outta there lol! He said she trapped him with a baby that he didn’t want and now he barely sees her. This woman was 46 years old when she had a baby and they were living together in a relationship. I’m sure he probably expressed his feelings to not have kids at some point, but he wasn’t strapping up and making her feel like he wanted to be with her only. I mean, why not? They grown. However, he left that woman with the quickness and had nothing to do with her. Then he started asking me after 3 weeks of knowing him to spend the night. I refused and ghosted him. I hate it when people don’t vet one another and are so ready to jump in bed together. I don’t want kids and I’ve never been pregnant. When you tell a man that, he makes it his mission to get you pregnant. I’d rather be the cat or dog lady and build the life of my dreams.

Ex husband did the utmost to get me to marry him by lying about wanting children so that I would agree to have sex without condoms. We agreed to wait a year to try. During that year we used condoms and avoided the week before and the week of my fertile week. 1.5 years after the wedding, we try that May unsuccessfully. Then in June he sits me down the day we were to try again to tell me he never wanted kids. I told him I did and since he didn't, no sex without condoms and we aregoing back to the 2 weeks we used to abstain for. Natural family planning. He decided to avoid me all together since he would have to use a condom and couldn't touch me whenever he wanted. I left after 3 years of a stalemate and a dead bedroom. He kept trying to get me to let him not use a condom so that we could have sex again. I kept updating him on where I was in my cycle. I told him we could have sex on these certain days and use condoms for extra saftey. He would pout and then choose no sex. 😂

Best advice I can say as a married with 3 kids, stay celibate, stay single, stay child free, and choose your own purpose. It’s VERY hard to change your life in ANY way after you have children or a husband. They always end up coming first even before your very own well being sometimes I have to stay up till 3 am to get everything in the house done and then wake up at 6 am to make hubbys breakfast and lunch for work. Then shortly after breakfast and kids ready for school. That is not even a decimal fraction of what I do in a single day. I’m not saying it’s a miserable life, but I am saying its a hard one. One without sympathy or comfort.

This could've been me a years ago. I was young, and it was my first serious relationship. We got engaged within a year and had spoken about having children eventually, but I wasn't ready to have children yet and told him that. I trusted that he would honour and respect my decision. Suffice to say, he tried to get me pregnant unbeknownst to me that that was his agenda to entrap me in the relationship. It's called (reproductive coercion). I was unttey shocked and cried that he would do such a thing. Thankfully, I didn't get pregnant and ended the relationship soon after. When a woman is ready to have children... 1) SHE wants those children (versus her relatives, siblings, neighbors, grandparents, boyfriend, fiance, etc) and she has a good support system in place. 2) SHE has the finances to raise those children (as she just might have to raise them alone). 3) SHE can dedicate the next 18+ years of her life to those children, even if it is mostly at the expense of all HER available time 4) SHE can go through the necessary physical, emotional, mental, hormonal, and postpartum changes that are part of having children and is well-educated about what is at risk. 5. SHE can handle the additional necessary "doubled or tripled" domestic, household, and child-carrying bag-carrying, kid-transporting work daily. 7. SHE can simultaneously (in addition to all the above) be a submissive, happy pleasant, and welcoming wife/girlfriend/fiance to the man in her life (if he chooses to stick around). There are certain fundamentals when it comes to a relationship, have a child is one of them. If one person doesn't want a child and their partner does, then there is a fundamental flaw in that relation and 1 of 2 things will happen. 1 they both recognize they incompatibility and split. Or 2, one of them will give in to the desire of the other. And the person who chose to have the kid, may end up regretting it and resenting the other partner and the child both.

I really like the woman talking about the gendered language that these creators use to discuss relationship dynamics. The patriarchal idea that there are implicit roles in relationships and for parenting is the source of many of the problems that folks are talking about.
