That’s funny as hell, you may wanna do your research buddy, because without the African American culture, there would be no such thing as soul, we are the ones who popularized Soul... what Irish person or any person do you know that’ll upstage a black person in soul music? Show me the proof and I’ll PROBABLY give you the benefit of the doubt just that one time, but then again nah I won’t.. because I know it doesn’t exist.Wake up from your delusions pal smh blacks have RHYTHM AND SOUL! Riastrad HA SOUL WAS BIRTHED IN AFRICAN AMERICAN SLAVERY DAYS. NOT IRELAND. Black people invented SOUL, straight from their sufferings and pain as they make music their saving grace from all the stuff they’ve been through. Also, ask Mariah herself. Her style of music and singing comes directly from BLACK SOUL ARTISTS, HER IDOLS such as Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle. She HATED her mother’s music growing up. Dont ever talk about soul originating from ireland 😂😂😂

Both Mariah's parents were very well educated. I never heard her father speak but he was an aeronautical engineer and a strict disciplinarian, so he must have been very smart and organized. Her mom sounds very cultured and articulate. I always wondered why Mariah was so well spoken and articulate even when she didn't go to collage and now I see it must have been her parents. I'm sure it's the same dark brown shade as her siblings. I think after 1995 she started fibbing some parts of her background. I'm even starting to doubt she had a Venezuelan grandfather. Mariah Carey's mother is not "horrible" , as some people are now claiming. Mariah described in her book all the aspects of their tumultuous relationship but that doesn't mean that there isn't love. Patricia is not perfect, she has made mistakes, some of them have had a lasting impression on Mariah but watching the rendition of this song, one can see the love and pride in Patricia's eyes for her daughter. Mariah still takes care of her but has created boundaries that feel necessary for her. No need to insult the woman, whatever happened between MC and Patricia, that is their relationship. Thanks to Patricia, Mariah believed in herself and followed her dreams.

@@mimiq8 I would agree to an extent. She was pretty honest about Alfred Roy ditching their father - daughter Sunday outings to go out on dates once Alison had left for the Philippines. Yes he's human but that's pretty poor form. I honestly couldn't help but wonder though if Alfred might've fallen on the spectrum somehow. That's not a bad thing but if it starts to affect the relationships you have in life than it's always a good idea to get yourself tested. Regarding Patricia, I agree with OP post. I think despite her flaws, Patricia clearly tried her best. Besides, based off on what Morgan said, he thinks Mariah might've inherited her bipolarity from their mother. Based on her portrayal in the memoirs, Patricia does seem like she might have some sort of mental illness herself.

People should have more compassion for Patricia Carey. I don't believe it was Mariah's intention to demonize her mother. She loves her mother and would probably give anything to have the kind of relationship with her that she's always longed for. If you don't have complicated history with your own parents then it might be hard to understand. I hope the book will serve to bring them closer and heal their wounds. In the end Pat is simply a woman who did the best she could. Mariah understands this and has made peace with it. Fans should offer Pat the same grace out of respect for Mariah.

THIS completely. She says in interviews she loves her mother despite all, but she has learned from therapy to establish boundaries in order to have a functioning relationship. And even the book forward has an ILY to her mother. If she wanted to completely trash her mother, she would be doing her interviews far differently, and would actually be disowning her mother completely. (And she was a multimillionaire many times over by the time they did this duet. Mariah clearly invited her to be on the duet. Even if their relationship has changed since 2010, that doesn't invalidate Mariah's reasoning for including her mother here.) (And it strikes this duet happened while she was still grieving her father even though he died several years earlier. And the video for the song includes lots of family photos. It clearly meant something personal to her.)

People a year ago: Ohhh her mother is so amazing! What a beautiful voice she has! People now: She's satanic! Opera is dying! I haven't read the book yet but as an adult I can understand that there's not such thing as perfect family! Within years I've changed my mind about my parents a couple of times. I can accuse my father for being absent and many more but at the end of the day he's my father and I know he loves me and would never hurt me. No matter how many nasty things I could say about him, it doesn't mean our relationship is bad. Sure it's dysfunctional but we love each other. On the other hand, my mother is an angel on my mind, but is that true? Is all that bad happened in my life my father's fault? What I'm trying to say is that Mariah told her part of the story! Patricia may have to share a different version of it, as my father does. We can't be sure about anything but each one of their statements. I don't know whether her bipolarity has affected her story or not. I want to believe it hasn't because being bipolar doesn't make you neither crazy nor absurd while following a drug treatment. Her attitude and behavioural changes must be the roles she had to play for the sake of music industries. I might be wrong but you can never now. One thing is for sure, Pat wasn't a supportive mother. A mother's love for their kids is a blessing and a real mother can feel it in her soul. Being competitive to your own daughter (I guess because of more talent or because she follows the path you wanted to follow yourself) or ditch your other kids for fame, don't make you a good mother for sure! But as I said no one's perfect and I'd like to listen to Pat's version. Also, I'd like to know what she has to say about her other daughter's accusations of her getting involved in satanic rituals.

@Tev I don't doubt that at all! I don't support her, I'm just trying to figure out what was that on her mind that made her act the way she did so.

Thank you for NOT putting Patricia's vocals in there. No disrespect to opera singers but I've never been a fan of most mezzos (as best I can tell; I'm not expert). If it's not Kathleen Battle or Renee Fleming I can't really be bothered. But thank you for putting the interview in there. It was interesting to hear how she became interested in opera.

Mariah's mother is actually a better vocalist than Mariah (one if the few) but of course Mariah has been very versatile in different genres and of course she turned herself in to a superstar over the decade and is a great songwriter of course.

She always- pre 2003- said how she had support and love from her mom and felt awkward and abandoed by her dad. Then her story recently changed and her dad is a saint. It's her bipolar and narcissism.
@lulamilesibanda3612 жыл бұрын
First of all she praised Pat in her memoir but also revealed the mean things she said mainly because she grew up with her for the longest she said she'll always love her and that they're trying to work out their relationship. Tell in which interview she spoke ill about her dad because from what I recall her dad and her spent very little time together and in the memoir she said she forgave him but also didn't want him to blame himself for being absent in her life just like she forgave her mom

Yeah this whole anti mommy trip on her autobiography just doesn’t jive. If there were problems since her breakdown in 2001 and yes girl that’s what it was why you don’t call it what it was doesn’t make sense either since you came out as BP2 a few years ago and many BP2’s have breakdowns, than they’d have been problems and no duet would’ve happened. The whole thing just sounds dramatic and attention grabbing. I’m a fan. I got the nook but I just can’t get past page 18. It’s boring. Books have to grab you page ONE. THIS didn’t. I’ll try to read it again at another time. Plus too old Miss Young to write an autobiography. Don’t throw moms under the bus. You’ll regret it with your own.

I'm 3/4 into the book, she didn't mention bipolar disorder. She said she was diagnosed with something I'm not familiar with. And it is really strange she did this duet and other things after her saying her mom and brother tricked her into an institution and wanted to get control over her money. Like what's currently happening to Britney. That is too much. I can relate to the things she said her mom would say to her because my own my mom deals with bipolar but wow

Bullshit. Alison and Morgan also said Patricia was an abusive mother. Alison claimed Patricia sold her to pedophiles.

Why on earth would the good discerning public, that do not consent to idol worship, believe a single word coming out of the mouths of hellyweird,satanick Masonick, Gender inverted father and son, multimillionaire, deceiver , sellouts that have been deliberately mocking and gaslighting the discerning public, by masquerading as females .. and more laughably, as mother and daughter that perform a duet together , allegedly?

"Remember that you can be only half the singer that I am". Ekhm, maybe Mariah cannot be that good as trained opera singer, but she can be ten times more succesful, rich and loved by her fans all around the world, while popularity of opera is dying out. If she had thought she is a better singer why has she needed to say such a thing?
