Mariah actually produced and composed this song just like almost all her other songs. She usually does collab with people but she’s said many times that when it comes to vocals, and harmonies, and melodies, and stacking vocals, she does ALL of that herself with basically little to no help. In fact she’s said that when she’s doing her thing she actually gets everyone out of the studio so she can be alone to do what she needs to do, that’s how she feels most comfortable.

@@lonnylonso when I say produced I mean she helps in choosing the beats and instrumentals, she has control in that process. She also has full control over her vocal production, nobody tells her what to do with her recordings nor helps her really, that’s all her.

The thing about her is that she would probably write the songs by herself if she properly knew how to play an instrument like a piano. She probably would prefer to do it by herself since she would have full control. She collaborates with other writers because she needs someone that knows how to play, so they can catch her ideas that she’s communicating with her voice and repeat it on the instrument or put it down on a sheet. She only collaborates with writers that can do that and don’t try to take control over the writing process because she usually has a vision of how the song should be.

To answer your questions.. 1) Butterfly was her 6th studio album and first full R&B album and first since her divorce from Tommy Mottolla the head of her record label. This was the first time she was given a lot of creative control and the first time she was allowed to express her sexuality. It’s her favorite album and also made when she was dating Derek Jeter We need to do Charmbraclet next (through the rain, Boy, bringing on the heartbreak & I know what you want) it has some of the best music videos! Also Toni Braxton literally has a song called Spanish Guitar!

I think Mariah here was a nymph or possibly a goddess, discovered by the man at the lighthouse (kinda like that movie Aquaman).
