Dwayne Hogan, the question was which artist can match or surpass their studio version of the track. Beyoncé is doing that constantly. Period. Don’t downplay Beyoncé to just a dancer/entertainer even though she is the best entertainer out there right now her voice is the main focal point of any of her shows. Her voice is one of the best in the industry.

Dwayne Hogan I agree while Beyoncé is a good singer she is no where near in Mariahs league. Beyoncé rarely deviates from how the album version is recorded. Her songs also aren’t very challenging to sing and don’t have much range in them. How many Mariah songs are out there with at least one note you know you can’t hit? I’d say 80% of Mariahs stuff. I don’t think there is one Beyoncé song I can think of with notes outside of the majority of people’s range. Most of her songs are talking/singing.

AFCompany, oh you are so wrong it’s painful to read. Homecoming alone changes the arrangement and tones of almost every song she performed. Also, Mariah herself has stated that Beyoncé’s songs are difficult to sing because of how unique they are structured in terms of vibrato, complex runs etc. Love On Top and Deja Vu along with the other tracks in Beyonce’s discography are very hard to sing. And the talking/rapping has been more recent even though she was doing it in Destiny’s Child.

She’s flawless here. The way the backup singers were incorporated compared to the Studio Version and the way she played with the arrangement and melisma throughout and especially towards the end. So much more haunting and dark in a good way. 🌻💜 I wish I was at that show.

As I like to say this performance of I Don’t Wanna Cry Live @ Tokyo Dome is the best performance of a song by a human being EVER!! 💙 She really did change it up with the vocal runs and flourishes. In the 90s there was 1 artist who stood to rival Mariah in the very areas that made her legendary. Her name was Shanice. She was a singer, songwriter, and could hit the whistle notes with effortless efficacy (listen to her cover of lovin you by Minnie Ripperton). She had a hit with the song "I love your simile" that was undoubtedly one of the biggest songs of the early 90s. Shanice had something very few people back those days had: the biggest names in music--producers and artists alike wanting to work with her. (Very few people know it's actually Janet and her husband at the time, Rene Elizondo, laughing on the "i love your smile" track). Unfortunately, her mom who was also her manager was an absolute nightmare. She had this particular image that she wanted for her daughter and made it impossible for her to become the superstar that she could've been. In 1991 there was a lot going on with heightened tension in the middle east as a result of the gulf War. Her third single was a tribute to the troops called "silent prayer." It was duet with Johnny Gill from New Edition (he replaced Bobby). After learning about Johnny Gill's bad boy reputation, her mom insisted that they record their vocals separately. Immediately after the song was released it started shooting up the charts. Her record company wanted to make a video but her mom refused because she didn't want people to think her daughter was dating Johnny Gill. Similarly, she had a song called "dont wanna love you" on the boomerang soundtrack that was getting a lot of airplay but her mom didn't allow her to make a video because of the movie's R rating. She went on to have a pretty decent career with hits like "Saving forever for you" (a must listen from the Beverly hills 90210 tv show soundtrack), "it's for you," "turn down the lights" and "when I close my eyes" but she was kept from becoming the superstar that she could've been were it not for her mom's mismanagement of her career. Great reaction, though. 😍😍 This is one of my favorite Mariah Songs. I like most of her songs but this and "can't let go" just has a special meaning to me.

You should really check out Trey Lorenz!!! He is Mariah background singer an he is amazing. In 1993 he released an r&b album that Mariah help to produce, write and sing on many of the tracks. 'Just to be close to you' and 'someone to hold' Are phenomenal and you can hear Mariahs voice throughout the entire background and some adlibs

Mariah made the studio song in the early 90s. She did this life performance in the mid-90s. Maybe her voice change a little bit. Singing in the studio is a bit different because the person can concentrate. There's no distractions. There's no sound. It's just a small space. Performing on stage has a big area for the sound also travels differently.

She was walking because she nervous and kinda scared she had to laugh it off to cope with her fears there was one time she almost run off the stage because she never sang in front of a lot people before so she learned not to be afraid of singing in front of the biggest crowd in 1993 by dancing to her biggest hits but you can see that she got used to it but she was still nervous on stage because of the crowd which is pretty scary.
