I’m Slovenian but was born and raised abroad. When we had more than a week, going on vacation often meant going to Slovenia. But we would have about four vacations a year. One week in the autumn (around thanksgiving), at least 2 weeks for Christmas, a week in the spring, and then summer break. My dad would work some days in between my summer and winter break, but during both he would have a good two weeks to enjoy. In the summer we also wouldn’t just stay in Slovenia but enjoy the Mediterranean coastline (particularly Croatia). We rarely return to the same place twice, but Croatia is definitely our favorite destination because of the beautiful coast and good spear fishing. My family has now scattered around the globe, but we still stick to our winter and summer get-togethers as much as possible.

Some people over here go on vacation multiple times a year too. Apart from the "obligatory" summer vacation, some people also take one in winter (to go to an Alpine skiing location) or the week leading to (and including) Labour Day. I'm glad we're able to do that, because (like you said) everyone needs a break and it's important to regenerate. I was on a 2-week vacation on a Croatian island this July (a place I've been before, but not for the past 4 or 5 years, so it was nice to come back and see the stuff that has changed during that time). I had a blast. x3 Hope you had fun on your vacation as well! :)

People, especially older generations, go to the same place every year because they own a caravan or an apartment there. Or someone in their family does. I have a bunch of older co-workers with caravans/apartments in Croatian Istria that have been vacationing there for 2 or more decades every year, even every weekend in the summer. They end work a bit earlier on Friday, go to the coast and return on Sunday evening. Then they take 4 weeks off and spend most of it at the same place yet again and a few days hiking in Julian Alps.

My family, we take four vacations each year: - A week or two in late April & early May. Usually somewhere on the coast in Croatia. - A week in the end of June, usually in Slovenian Alps - A month-long road trip in the summer, usually in Europe or North America. We just returned from a five-weeks long road trip in Western Canada and the US Pacific Northwest, and it was quite fantastic. - A week in late October & early November, usually on the coast in Croatia. I have been working since 1992, and have seven weeks of paid vacation. It's just one of the delights of living & working in Europe. I feel for all the good people in the USA, who have to cope with completely inadequate vacation policies, all in the name of almighty dollar.

I feel like I always need 3-4 days to really detach from the day to day life...and then I really start to enjoy my vacation. But after 3 weeks or so, I start to miss all the beautiful things at home...even the smallest. For example, I miss my guys from my band and doing music together. By now we chat almost every day and make plans for the next band practice... we are all sooo motivated😉 So, I'm gonna enjoy my last week in Croatia. ..but then it won't be hard to go back home... I feel like after a good break, doing other nice things, you kind of learn to appreciate your day to day life again.

We go for 3 vacations per year typically; 1-2 weeks in the winter, typically some spa, skiing, hiking or all of those. Then another 2 in the summer, it's become sort of a habit to go for 1 week to Bohinj and 1-2 weeks to the seaside over the summer. Sometimes we break the habit and go really far away, like we went to Japan once for 3 weeks. I don't recall ever working an entire year without any vacation.

This year I went to Thailand and Myanmar for 3 weeks which was my shortest holiday in the last 10 years. Apart from the summer vacation there have to be at least 3 other times when I get away for a week. Normally Christmas time, February for skiing and May 1. I travel to distant places and spend less money than people who go to Poreč. That's food for thought. It's all about planning and setting priorities. That being said ... I'm probably not a 'normal' Slovenian as I consider a 1 hour drive to Koper a very short distance and have no problem driving there for the afternoon.

I think apart from having better worker rights a big influence on Europeans is simply geography. I live in the north of England and I can leave work at five on a Friday, go straight to Liverpool or Manchester airport and have an evening meal in Barcelona - I've done it. I can be in Iceland in two and a half hours or Moscow in three. With cheap flights now it's not uncommon to go away more than once a year for short breaks. The factories closing for a two week period in Summer and people going away to the seaside at least for a day or two is a tradition that goes back a long way in Britain so when flying became cheap the seaside was swapped for Spain. Over 80% of people have passports here. I thinking that apart from your lack of holiday time, travelling for Americans is always going to be more time consuming plus you have the culture of Summer Camp that we've never had.

I get two weeks off in one pack, but we get several days off around the holidays. This year we went as always camping to Bivillage camp at Fažana, CRO for 8 days, since my husband can't get 2 weeks together off work, otherwise we'd be there for at least 10 days. Many factory workers get 3, some even 4 weeks off together as a collective holiday, but they have to work up at least one of that weeks as extra hours work. I cannot imagine going somewhere for at least a week - depend how tired I am.

Whatever the 'Slovenian Dream' is, taking your kids down to the coast on vacation every year has to be part of it. Well, 'down to the coast,' to some kind of beach really. Whether it's in Slovenia, Croatia or maybe Greece, Egypt, wherever. Everybody does it or everybody generally wants to do it.

As you surely know, the legal minimum for vacation is at least 3 weeks or so a year. as an old geezer I am now at, I think, 28 workdays - almost 6 weeks! If I understood correctly Luka is the owner of his company - he doesn't _have_ to actually go to vacation, but even he has to "pretend". (I am also a small entrepreneur - we can work as long as we want :o) ) So, this is not just about vacations, but work/life balance in general, and how society sees it. To us, the success of a country is measured by quality of life of its citizens, not by stock indices, even in countries with traditional Protestant work ethics (Slovenia is not one of them, but might as well be.)

well check the prices in croatia and you’ll see that prices sky high and an average slovenian familly with a paycheck 600/700€ won’t be able to afford that , then again alot of people go on one day trips becuse the sea is close and it takes only 2h from ljubljana but honestly not many people can afford vacations like in the past... just my thought!

Also, I know plenty of Americans that go away each year...albeit it's only for a week at a time. The general consensus on that, is fear that their job will be vulnerable if they are away for too long...I've heard that quite a lot.

Hmm, people from village don't go so often for many reason...When I was a child, we went just once for one week...And even now I don't go every year, but not because I don't want to go....So what ur saying is not completely true.

How about spending your next vacation in Prlekija, eh? :) The most beautiful country in the world! Border with Austria is still open- for now, and border with Hungary is and will remain open for the foreseeable future. Plenty of stuff to see there, once you've seen everything worth seeing in Prlekija.

There is two options. Give people more free time, give them more time to recuperate and relax. Or give them prescription for medications when they get ill.

I love your videos. I found my father's family in Slovenia, Kamnik & Kranj. My brother and I have stayed at Terme' Snovik and at Pod Skalo (hostel) as well as hotels in Ljubljana. Here in the states, my vacations are usually road trips to visit friends & family back in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina. In 2018 my husband Davide (Italian from Italy) went to Oregon to see the eclipse. Hope you enjoy our trip photos. I live in Los Angeles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWO8kKF6r7-khaM.

Slovenian tend to go to Croatia every year and then when they get back, they talk bad about vacations on Croatia or Croatian people but next year they go back there.... This is reality

Mariah Dolenc Sad but true. They do this ritual every year, almost 85% of Slovenian families goes for summer in Croatia and 82% criticize them every year....and they go back in the same spot. Like... Oh the food was horrible, it was to expensive, they tried to rob us and all the bad stuff that could happen on the vacation, but next year....same story

Slovenija ti bo ZELO vsec, toliko cudovitih stvari imamo (narava, prehrana, zgodovina,...). Predvsem pa so Slovenski moski najboljsi moski (iskreni, ljubeci, super partnerji in ocetje,...)
