A short compare and contrast, having seen Alina Cojocaru's mad scene in this production too: Alina seems more fragile; more sad; as if she cannot bear it all. To me, she seems to fold in on herself during her mad scene - she doesn't seem to acknowledge anyone else's presence onstage, as if she is in a dream. Marianela, on the other hand, seems to be telling herself that everything is still as it was: Albrecht is still in love with her, etc. Her madness appears to be caught in-between reality and dream. I must also admit that Marianela, to me, has a larger stage presence during this part; she stands out more than Alina. Yet again, she is taller than Alina and has that shock of amazing red hair. Overall, though, I like them both. Do release this on DVD! That would be awesome!

Every single role she does, does so perfectly .. Above her outstanding and clean technique, she has the ability to interpret and perform wonderfully so many different roles (Odette/Odile; Kitri; Aurora; Gamzatti, Juliet, Myrtha; Giselle; etc..), and it is so natural... She's a real actress on pointe! It's unbelievable! .. I don't have words to describe her! I totally love her ...

SHE *** IS ** AWESOME! Bringing so much believable feeling into such a same-as-always-pantomimical and antique choreography is REALLY a feat! Thank god they let her loose... Her grand PDD with Thiago Soares in Swan Lake is also the best ever, in my humble opinion - for the same reason. They made the most of it!

Can I mention that Nela's Rose Adagio has also been pulled from YT? Almost all of Aurora's other work is available, but not the Rose. Although I own the production headed by Cojacaru, I'd spring for another DVD of this production just to see Nela. (And her Giselle if the DVD were two-sided. Hint, hint...

Nunezs interpretation is very moving and correct as it should be - but what about the Corps has no-one told them how to react they look shocked and worried at certain points and then just stand there with no expression -no confusion no embarrassment no shock or dismay then suddenly they react then forget again Giselles mother looks suitably horrified as she falls at her feet but then looks nonshallent as though Giselle goes mad all the time !!!

Adam wrote some 14 ballets. "La Fille du Danube", "La jolie fille de Gand" and "La Filleule des fées", for example, were huge successes in their day. Should some be investigated? but they're extremely grand in production. The 2002 recording on Marco Polo Records of "Filleule" is gorgeous......
