No artifice, just a beautiful voice and perfect diction. She was exciting in my first year at University in 1965/66 and continues to be so all these years later. Just read that she has recovered from Covid-19. There are few singers today who could just walk up to a microphone with a single backing guitar and produce such MAGIC!

So many of Marianne's TV performances back then were lipsynched - this sounds like a rare glimpse of her raw live pure TALENT back in the 60s! Such a natural artist! Such a shame all the recounts of the day were that her managers were only interested in her image.

Unbelievable how it all worked in the sixties à L'Olympia in Paris... She alone, standing still face to crowds, modestly producing those melodies with her spiritual, femenine sort of northerner sounds...with her eyes wide open, as if she couldn't believe it, "do I really like you", she could be thinking, funny...a young girl, out of the blue throwned into the heart of the whirlwinds of Art and its big, eager money markets... Harrowing, she was, and suppose the whole parisian music lovers revered her. Well, we can see some of that. She marvelled everybody... how not? She is still touching, nowadays with her harsh and wise voice. Mariane manages to transmit, one way or another. Mariane Faithful means quality, in't it her?? 💜❤️🎶👌

I was a major Marianne Faithfull wannabe in the day. She introduced me to the wonderful world of British folk songs, including Childe ballads. I have been writing my own songs for decades now and seldom do covers. and yet, I can still sing some of the songs ( though nothing up on my channel except House of The Rising Sun ) she sang and remember them as if it were yesterday. I remember an interview with her once where she said there were many women her age and a little younger who showed up at shows with photos of them back in the day imitating her. so obvious I was not the only wannabe! One last word, see how she stands almost motionless as she sings, that sweet soprano and her beauty. Now the "stars" need their autotune and ghost singers and look used at a young age. Sad.
