Finally a real hoarder garage. I am completely overwhelmed by my garage and the ones people post are so laughable. They hardly have anything. I have seven past roommates I’ve helped out and things are piled everywhere! I don’t even know where to start. I’ve even given one person over 5 years to get their stuff. I just don’t know the legality of what throwing away their things would be. They’ve all gotten messages, and for years, they keep saying they will pick up their things, but they don’t. I’m ready to throw everything out and reclaim my home.😩😩😩

You are doing a great job. I have recently retired and I'm wanting to clean our hoarder garage (mostly my husbands stuff) lol I'm responding because you have a car in your parents garage and were explaining it like it's unheard of. I, too, have a car in our garage. It is a sore spot with me because it is a 1966 Mustang convertible cluttered to the top with junk. It also has things stored inside. I would love to send you a picture but I don't see where I'm able to do that here. But trust me....I also have a car with clutter stored in and on it.

Yes, I would like to see this as a series, especially if you get your parents involved (whether off screen or on), so that you can get a clearer picture as to what you can get rid of. It would be a very hard process for you if you can't involve them, I would guess. It is great to be in this collaboration with you. As someone whose been helping aka doing it all by myself with only her (my mother) undermining things continuing to packrat and even trashpanda things weve decided to throw away and bringing them back out and trying to hide them like i wont notice i can tell you right now its much easier to do it without the person nitpicking over your shoulder lie back seat driver while doing nothing to help but expecting you to do everything and telling you they want help but not letting you do anything without attacking you like youre personally responsible for their problems and are doing this against their wishes when their the ones who desperately need help and youre the only one who actually cares enough to spend their precious time and energy doing so. Yeah its a thankless never eneding task with one step forward two steps back and after years of me doing this ive found that actually its better if i do it alone and doing it while she isnt home and dont like let her interfere or try "help" it sounds perhaps mean or whatever but its necessary and she cant get out of her own way and people not stepping in and stopping that behaviour led her into the hoarderline massive overwhelming issue. So yeah im not her parent i shouldnt have to baby her and waste time in my life for someone who doesnt appreciate it and is toxic. But im also too good a person to let my mother live like that and knoe that if i dont do it now ill have to do it at some point either when she moves into my home when shes too old to care for herself or passes away etc and she thins everything is precious and sentimental even broken things or things ive never seen in my nearly 30 years of life add on that ive literally had to pry my own potty out of her hands to get rid of because shes kept it for decades. Like its full on. Clothes that dont fit her and never will because theyre from her early twenties aka younger than me. Shoes that dont fit like gods give me strength broken chairs that she can fix but hasnt in ten years crap she keeps picking up on the side of the road or worse pays money for in opshop like 1 person doesnt need 40 teaspoons but here we are. Thankfully after years shes starting to see a bit of the light and at the very least have some concept of i can have less but nicer things and i deserve to not keep clothing with holes in them and ratty and ragged blankets etc. Like parents are harder to raise than children. Her attitude and issues have made me even more determined to be less shitty behaviours and more minimalist so my family never have to deal with this bs. If you read this dont do this to yourselves or your family! If you care about peopl dont be toxic or burdensome to them dont assume they owe you time to help you when you wont help yourself!

my parents garage was exactly the same!! So much brand new stuff that had never been used and we even had the old car underneath a pile of junk too!! i cleared it out a couple years ago (before I ever thought of having a channel haha) and had to get a giant dumpster to haul away the junk. you did a great job mariela!!

Ohhh, myyyy. You tackled that alone???? It took all of my sister, me, our husbands, and our adult children to clear our parents' garage, (and house). Brother wasn't much help. He wanted us to run everything past our parents. It Never would have been finished if we had!! We had to put them in assisted living. I feel so much for you.

I feel your pain! We decluttered 10,800 pounds from my parent's garage plus another 100 contractor garbage bags and still have plenty more to do. That got us room for one car. They also have another garage with no cars, just junk. It can sneak up on you over time. Kind of glad I don't have a garage. ;)

Definitely a series is a good idea. You need your parents to be there to make decisions so you don’t put things back that they won’t use. I understand it could be a difficult task for them though. Great to see this video! I'm currently tackling a large storage area. I have a family member also tackling some of her storage spaces. We're both making a lot of progress those little chunks of time really do add up!!!! It definitely would be hard trying to declutter somebody else's stuff so hopefully you can get things in a good position that they can actually see their stuff and make decisions on it once the obvious garbage is removed. If they're not physically able to go through things maybe they could sit outside on a nice day and you can hold up stuff for them... Or make a pile and have them come out and check it out. That definitely would be nice if you had some extra hands though!

My parents garage is worse surprisingly and it’s huge, like 3x the size of this garage. Full completely. I wanna start cleaning it in 2 days cuz the other days were busy. I’m just annoyed with the garage and since it’s full and can’t fit anything else the house is becoming that way too. My dad is making excuses to not clean it and my mom tried to once but got yelled at by my dad so idc I’m cleaning it and even if it’s just a small bit it’s something. So hopefully I can do something

A series would be cool, as I'd love to see this space cleared out and made more functional. However, it really does seem impossible without help from your parents. Don't get me wrong, throwing stuff away is super satisfying, but if you're not getting at least input from them on how they envision the space, what their end-goals are, and what they actually WANT their garage to function as, I just don't see this being a successful effort. Take it from someone who's cleared her mother's garage several times. It will just end up the exact same. You'll clear a little bit, and it just gets piled up again. I hope your folks can get more involved if you decide to continue.

I have to admit the site of your parent’s gargage gives me anxiety. They are so lucky to have you as a daughter. My 25 year old son who still lives at home has no desire to try and help me with my decluttering. Of course neither does my husband. I would be overjoyed to have anyone help me declutter my home.
