Wow not bad on that total. We don't have an Aldi's in my town, the closest is a 40 mile round trip, so not worth the trip. Our community Facebook group is always asking when we will get one. I'd like to give it a try when we do get one!

It's nice you have a season pass for a place you really enjoy. I went there once as a kid when visiting family in California. Also went to Knots Berry Farm which I liked better. Since moving to Florida have access to Disney World, it's 75 miles away. I have only been there once in all the years I've lived here. I worked for General Telephone Company, many years ago and they gave employees free passes to Disney World for customer appreciation. Was able to take, then boyfriend and my daughter - free!

Since I retired, several years ago - I only get gas once a month and only $20.00. I don't go anywhere other than around our small town for a few errands and grocery shopping. I grocery shop once a month, a monthly haul to my favorite grocery store, Publix (3 miles) and one other time to the small grocery store Winn Dixie (1 mile). I like Publix brands and the bogos better than WD but do appreciate the availability of WD for a few quickie items in between. I am vegetarian so I save on not buying meats. I don't eat eggs or cows milk either, use organic soy milk, I like the Publix brand the best.

A good rule of thumb is to consider half a tank mark on gas meter means it’s time to fill up. For your safety. Never risk running out of gas in an emergency. That’s the mom in me talking.
@lindaroyal81615 күн бұрын
Yes, that's an excellent rule to live by. Especially in Florida for hurricane season and the possibility of evacuating.
@Simply.Mariela3 күн бұрын
haha thanks! fortunately i've never ran out of gas but i have heard it's not good to have your tank so low and fill up when its 1/4 or 1/2

I'm doing a low buy. Mostly I'm not buying big stuff. I'm doing a declutter a room a week challenge that I do every year with a FB group. Usually I end up buying something to help organize a space or make it nicer (like a rug on a cement slab laundry/utility room. This year I am going to buy a new bed frame so I can utilize the space under the mattress to hold blankets and other things, but I have to wait until Feb because it's a big expense. I am also part of the Amazon Vine program, so even though I pay taxes at tax time, I'm not outright spending money on the items I get. It's been a blessing, but this year I promised not to spend as much this year as last.
@Simply.Mariela6 күн бұрын
awesome. i love the declutter challenge idea. keep it up with your low buy!
@lindaroyal81616 күн бұрын
Doesn't sound that bad. May not be a no spend but only buying essentials, gas & groceries is acceptable. Home goods, taking advantage of clearance sales, getting pieces for a discount is great savings. The hotel, sometimes you gotta splurge and treat yourself. It's all good!

I get that you feel like your insights might be helpful, but saying that “when you die your stuff doesn’t go with you, so therefore, you should try to live your life without stuff” is a very illogical connection. We need stuff…a mechanic needs tools to earn an income. A doctor might choose to keep all the textbooks that they used through their medical degree. A parent will probably keep the macaroni pictures that their child made in kindergarten. We keep trinkets and letters from grandparents and other things that connect us to those we’ve lost. To just suggest that because clutter can be annoying, or get lost in a fire, that we should all try to just live without stuff, is to completely misunderstand how different human minds grasp hold of and place different values on different aspects of a life lived. In fact I would suggest it’s rather naive. I’d love to hear your opinion on this topic after you’ve lived a full life. I have a feeling you might be a little less critical of the value that others place on “stuff”.
@Simply.Mariela10 күн бұрын
I don't mean live without stuff at all. We need stuff to survive but I'm talking about more of a standpoint of consumerism where we are constantly told we need to buy stuff to make us happy.

Prayers you, family and friends are all safe and away from the effected areas. I'm glad you discussed what is happening from a resident, that gets better news updates than many of us. I'm in Florida and yes, it's on our local news and covered in the world news but it's only brief and selective what's being shared. It's such a horrific tragedy that so many have lost everything and it's still continuing. My heart breaks for everyone touched by this devastation and all the helpless animals that have no where to run to. It's absolutely disgusting and cruel that looting and theft is happening during this time. The Insurance Industry that is only concerned with collecting high premiums for little coverage should be ashamed. Fire Insurance in California, difficult to get coverage sounds a lot like what we go through in Florida; It's hard to get any homeowners insurance here, especially for older homes. And....Flood Insurance is not covered with regular HO Insurance. You have to purchase a separate flood insurance policy. You can also.....purchase "wind Insurance" another separate policy. A lot of issues for Hurricane damage which is caused by wind and might not be covered in your policy under hurricanes,. It's crazy how they figure out to collect money and not have to pay out. Many of the homes demolished in N.C. flooding were not in "flood zones" nor required to have flood insurance. It's so sad. The linked video popped up when I was scrolling, it's about the fires in Calif. if anyone is interested. The lady lost everything and was able to confront Governor Gavin Newsom while he was accessing damages. Link to that video, it's only 4 minutes long; kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoaWoXd7aNV1ac0si=735DR1lNU-DzeQh7 PRAYERS TO CALIFORNIA AND EVERYONE TOUCHED BY THIS TRADGEDY - PRAYERS TO ALL THE HELPLESS ANIMALS AND WILDLIFE ALSO.

It’s making me think about creating a file of important documents that I can grab bc 1st priority will be my dogs and their food. The more I can streamline the rest, the better. Scientist say the next big earthquake will come. This tragedy has made me realize how unprepared I am.

Most of my life is no spend. I only go grocery shopping once a month, do a monthly haul. I hate shopping, so I'd rather spend more time once a month than multiple times a month going to the store. The in-between monthly grocery hauls, I do a quick run, only once a month, to the small grocery store a mile from my house to pick up only the few necessities. I'm not much of a shopper like Amazon or stores.
