If Steve Rothery’s solo doesn’t hit you emotionally, deep inside, there’s something profoundly wrong. If I made a list of the ten greatest solos I’ve ever heard…this would be the first on my list. I started studying the instrument in 1990. Everybody wanted to play fast. A solo like this one blows the most technical playing away every time. Steve makes that 6 string just sing. His notes soar above the audience.

Stephen Hackett is up there too. He's on tour doing old Genesis now, with a great backing band. When he does Firth of Fifth.....that guitar solo id out of this world. Steve Rothery is a brilliant guitarist and we all know how great David Gilmour is. The 70's produced brilliant guitarists.

@@delby66 Hurray!!!! Finally someone mentioning Steve Hackett, yeah! What a fine guitarist in his own right, one of my super favorites. Did you see the Live at Hammersmith 2013 with Rothery appearing at the end of Lamia, at about 5:50min.? Great craftsmanship. And, heck yes, Firth of Fith has always been fantastic. Also the ending solo of Supper's Ready, especially Live at the Royal Albert Hall 2013, starting at 2:00:25 onwards, insane, and, like you say, kind of out of this world. Thanks for posting, Stephen!!

Short and sweet! I am embarrassed big time! 63 year old AND WHERE OH WHERE HAVE I BEEN? Knocked me off my feet completely. I have listened to this band fleetingly and they deserve so much better than that. Wonderful stuff. Mr Rothery makes me listen with close intent, very subtle indeed sir, even classy! A great deal going on there, and when you give yourself several listens, the 'hidden' becomes even more revealed. I'm converted and won over completely. Back catalogue will be pursued with interest. Yip, one in the eye for me!

North of Ireland.....I love my country ....Amazing song. Easter is Ireland. I have tears in my eyes... A ghost of a mist was on the field The grey and the green together The noise of a distant farm machine Out of the first light came A tattered necklace of hedge and trees On the southern side of the hill Betrays where the border runs between Where Mary Dunoon's boy fell Easter here again, a time for the blind to see Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free Out of the port of Liverpool Bound for the NORTH OF IRELAND The wash of the spray and horsetail waves The roll of the sea below And Easter here again, a time for the blind to see Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free What will you do? Make a stone of your heart? Will you set things right? When you tear them apart? Will you sleep at night? With the plough and the stars alight? What will you do? With the wire and the gun? That'll set things right When it's said and done? Will you sleep at night? Is there so much love to hide? Forgive, Forget Sing 'Never again...'
