This is kind of like the Fred Thompson-Francis Marion house designed by Wallace Neff. It sat on 120 acres in Bel Air. Greta Garbo called it Enchanted Hill. Microsoft Paul Allan bought the place and tore it down. It's been an empty lot since then.

@@MerryWeed Just an idea. Marilyn's former house is on half an acre of land in a high density part of a suburban sprawl, and is severely overlooked. The surrounding area looks nothing special, with oversized properties and will be very expensive. Would it be possible to reconstruct the house and garden in a more beautiful location, and say open it as a restaurant/hostel/AirbnB? After all, half an acre in America's 2.43 billion acres is nothing. I'm only saying this because I think the property is lovely, is of architectural merit, nice proportions, and is worth preserving.

Marilyn Monroe's home should be designated a historical landmark and museum . Small private tours of the home with all the proceeds donated to Holygrove orphanage where she stayed. (my 2 cents) Chances are the owners bought the home and paid what they paid BECAUSE it was Marilyn's house. SO keep Marilyn's house. My cousin purchased that house when he first moved to Hollywood. He never lived in it and sold it after owning it for about 8 years. He moved back to England and purchased a castle that he was going to renovate, but he was so busy with theater at the time that he ended up selling it as well. I always wished he had invited us out to California so we could've seen Marilyn's home for ourselves. He had become famous by then and became a real a-hole towards family. The current owner is probably tired of tourists coming to the house poking their noses in places they shouldn't be and holding cameras over the gate as if they are going to find traces of a woman who has been dead for 62 years. The house was not turned into a museum, preserving the home and all furniture as it was when Marilyn lived there. I'm sure her family went in and cleaned out everything that belonged to her after she died. With that being the case, the home ceased being hers and therefore has no historic value other than the fact it had a famous resident who died there.

You have to understand that the vast majority of LA's "historical houses" are not particularly old or noteworthy on their own merit. There are literally thousands of cool-looking homes in Los Angeles with celebrity pedigrees, some multiple times over, that are owned and lived in by people who don't want to be bothered by looky-loos. Despite being financially well-off, most of these people are normal folks trying to live normal lives. Additionally, many historic homes are located deep within residential neighborhoods - some accessible via narrow, winding hillside roads, or cul-de-sacs like Marilyn's - and therefore totally unsuited to tourist traffic. This is why the Playboy Mansion isn't a Museum (that said, the current owner did agree to preserve the most historic features of the house because of its architectural and cultural significance). Marilyn's house is not architecturally unique or rare on its own merit, and it's virtually invisible from the street. It is not a grand landmark, it's a very private piece of property. There are many museums, foundations, and government entities that preserve places like Edgar Allan Poe's house, Louis Armstrong's house, Mount Vernon, Monticello, the Vanderbilt Estate, Hearst Castle (owned by the State of California), and many, many more, but those properties have support and logistical characteristics that Marilyn's doesn't.

Marilyn was an icon, who was loved by all. Women wanted to be friends with her and men just wanted her. I can remember the day she died and it shocked the nation. Marilyn's life was tragic, but she did become a great actress and she could sing and dance. I don't believe she committed suicide, I believe she got confused as to what drugs she had already taken. Keep the house intact.

Let me assure you, it was no accidental overdose. I grew up in that area, we had a family friend who lived next door to her, and our neighbor was an old vaudevillian/actor (Floyd "Buster" Shaver) who knew her personally. He was hysterical when she was found dead and ran to our house holding the LA Times in his hand. I never saw him so upset. He told my father "Marilyn is dead! Those GD Kennedy's killed her. She knew too much!!" Everyone in Hollywood knew/knows that she was murdered. Huge coverup by the LAPD Chief at the time, William (Bill) Palmer - a very close friend of the Kennedys. Everyone knew what went down that weekend. Neighbors heard the altercation and EASILY IDENTIFIABLE BOSTON and ENGLISH ACCENTS. 😉

She only cared about wearing Marilyn's gown, and the owners of Marilyn's house have not taken in the cultural significance and respect one must have for someone with Marilyn's myth and the respect in Mr. Harbin Hunter's architecture. The home shouldn't be torn down because it is a piece of art. It is not a "cookie-cutter" home. The type you would find in a sub-division.

I am a member of Marilyn Remembered Fan Club for quite some time. I work on weekends, so it prevents me to attend many of their events. I truly hope Los Angeles CAN find it of historical value for cultural significance. The owners say there is no evidence of Marilyn even have lived at the address. I beg to differ. There are tiles in front of the door that she put there herself. Cursum Perficio. Those have been there since she owned it. The owners by suing the City of L.A. hope to stop the vote to make it a cultural significant site worthy.

I was outraged over the Kardashian disrespect for that iconic dress and the damage she caused, which Jordan highlighted when the dress was on display. It was an unbelievable disgrace. Our cultural history is being destroyed at a fast pace; Americans seem to not care, and greed often trumps cultural preservation. Years ago, I saw two videos on KZbin about this house. One was a realtor’s open house tour when it was up for sale. The other was an earlier video with interior photos as well as architectural and interior design layout drawings. Don't let it happen. I hate those people who want to do that. Shame on those heartless jerks.

What a great vlog. I was transported back to a Dearly Departed Van listening to the most knowledgeable, charismatic and fun Guide in LA. Thanks Scott for taking us on a great tour. Then and now. Hi Troy.

Marilyn's Architecturally significant, and irreplaceable lovely home, needs to be saved! It is Historic in it's significance, in so many ways!!! I am tired of this, these selfish, self-centered people, tearing down one-of-a-kind history!!! Why did they buy it? All these original homes need to be saved! It's the ONLY home she owned, all by herself, without a husband. It's darling and gorgeous!!! What these people build in the place of these house-treasures, ends up being garbage, like the one you passed, near hers. I hope that the Councilwoman goes all-in, to stop this destruction, then have the city purchase it for Landmark status, and museum status! Oh! and WHY, is Hefners' remains next to hers, and not the space for one of her husbands, friends, or ??? How did that space get saved for Hefner? Oh! and why? did that large woman, KK, EVER get permission to ruin an Historical garment, that was gorgeous, and hand-made, and priceless??? It should have NEVER been touched!! I saw The Marilyn Collection document all the destruction to her dress. That should have never happened, or ever been allowed!! Oh! and in case you guys out there think KK only ruined that one dress, she actually destroyed 2 of Marilly's gowns!!! KK wrecked that lovely Green shiny dress that Marilyn wore to a party, when Marilyn wore it with the armholes in the front like decorative slits. It actually looked better that way!! But, KK wore that one, to the AFTERPARTY< that night, after she ruined the Champagne gown, she destroyed the green one, too. That was just ghastly.
