Marina Abramovic talks about her work, her collaborations and the future of performance art with New York Times culture reporter Patricia Cohen -- www.timestalks.com. Marina Abramovic has used her own body as a medium, pushing herself beyond her limits. After her landmark retrospective at MoMA in 2010, she collaborated with director Robert Wilson, singer-composer Antony Hegarty and performer Willem Dafoe, to create an experimental opera based on her biography. The work, "The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic," was performed at Luminato in Toronto June 14-17, 2013.

I really love her work and as Belgraders I am very proud of her. But being a child of a Yugoslav general was a huge advantage over other artists. The Yugoslav generals were a bourgeoisie with enormous monetary and social privileges. She lies when she says she had no money and could not travel. she could do whatever she wanted since she was the daughter of a Yugoslav general.
