If you think war, increasing worldwide poverty, racism, ethnocentrism, are just annoying, then I’m sorry, you’re part of the problem of letting society and everything else raise generations upon generations of nescient people that are literally only raised to work you to death (and to serve the people at the top’spockets)

I had to think about "Oh No" after this video because the line "capitalism made us poor" reminded of her in the dollar bill dress with money raining onto her in "Oh No". That song in general, while seeming so happy, is pretty dark, especially considering her state of mind during the whole Family Jewels Era, as many others have pointed out. And I feel like the line in Purge the Poison describes this song pretty well! As far as I remember, from what I've read at the time Marina was out for success and not in a good place. Capitalism made her poor, but not in a monetary sense, more in a metaphorical one, as she always felt like she's the worst, not enough and not achieving her goals, at the time that could very well be meant in regards to her career. And I feel like that's true for a lot of people who desperately chase after money, as they feel that they find no value in themselves or their existence without it and that just makes a lot of people miserable. Especially when through social media you can continuously compare yourself to other people, even if only subconscious and see that they are way younger than you and more successful already. We all know that social media isn't reflecting reality 100% and people often make things look better than they truly are, but still comparing yourself to someone like that can make you feel like you failed at life and in a way make you poor in a figurative sense
@kunor85903 жыл бұрын

I absolutely love that no one can recreate her sound, and the sound of this reminds me so much more of older Marina and I feel like she’s combining her true self (since in all of her old songs she was obviously battling with her confidence) with her old Electra Heart Marina days and I’m LIVING FOR IT! I feel like THIS is the true Marina, still a bit of that Electra Heart girl; deep yet presented in a shallow manner, relatable and heart wrenching. Then there is the family jewels; raw, deep, not as glamorous. Finally Froot, fun, still not shallow and not all of the songs are happy but a much more optimistic, poppy sounding album. I feel like maybe she’s finally coming into her own, maybe getting rid of the Diamonds was her way of getting rid of that lack of confidence that showed before.
