You know, I don't usually talk in detail to others about the specifics of when I was an active duty Devil Dog. It's a personal choice. I usually don't like when people fluff up their experiences and whatnot. But I really like the way you go through things in your Marine Corps Mondays content. It really seems to come from an honest and not embellished point of view. Which reflects well on the Corps and gives people insight on what it is to go through what we do. Thanks Devil! Semper Fi

The gas basically just makes your nerves think that they are hot so your body reacts like it would to extreme heat. It can't hurt you; it's just painful. It is the same chemical that makes peppers spicy. Imagine squirting a hot pepper in your eyes.

I'll answer that for you, my father was an E4 in the Army and it was really hard for him to leave me, and he was just having a ruff time in general but when he came back it kinda felt like he lost a part of himself, the reason i say this is because he used to be a lot more lively just a joy to be around but since he came back from Iraq hes just being more easily agitated and all in all mean to people, so i would say its harder for people to come home and re adjust to society.

It all depends on when you enlist. Since AF BMT is all in one place for Active, Guard, and Reserve, its a matter of when they have space for you. Summers are more crowded since everyone is getting out of High School.

You may want to address how to prepare yourself before going to boot camp. Alot of folks don't make it because they've never played sports or exercised on a regular basis. I saw a lot of stress fractures/ shin splints bc they had never run. I met a few guys that quit bc they get overwhelmed by the stress...but end up there longer. You want to get through and out of basic on schedule, nothing sucks worse than being treated like you're brand new.

Whatcha talking about man? Gas chamber was fun as hell and we actually looked forward to it in the boot. I don't think anyone really freaked out in our platoon or series. We did have people try to outdo one another and see who can hold out the longest. It is only as dreadful as you make it to be. Same shit with swimqual - we had people fail swimqual 4 because they psyched themselves out about the tower jump... in a pool... with dozens of lifeguards around... and gear that floats...

The last time you'll have any power over your career in the military is before you sign. Don't trust your recruiter, read everything, don't make any quick decisions. When you think you are ready to sign wait 24 hours to remember anything you might have forgotten. And, the Gas Chamber was awesome.

Devil, I just graduated sept 6th and when we did the gas chamber it wasnt anything like you said. The way they do it now is that you put the mask on in the class and then you go in the chamber in groups of 15ish and then you do some exercises with the mask on to show that it works then you put your fingers in the eye part to break the seal then you immediately put it back and clear and run out then you take your mask off completely once you get out.

haha yeah good times. When your in the 03 field you may from time to time experience much more of it. especially through a specific course called Urban Leaders, which is essentially just a MOUT course (Military Operations in Urban Terrain) but really CQB in a nutshell. going from door to door simulating clearings when bam! your instructors throw the actual full blown CS grenades which is the real deal. Boot camp you get a small sample of this where its just some of the chemical burning and being waved in the air. The grenades are fume clouds. Had one of these tossed into a building that we were holding as a FOB or base. Lets just say you learn to live with, the smell, the taste, the 72 to 96 hours of skin burning cause your out there for 4 days training, lungs on fire lol. kinda no escape from it except hope the wind takes it somewhere else or you block any type of ventilation from the source. I loved it. Especially at night when you couldn't tell if the instructors were trying to trick you with smoke or cs gas.

@MordeaniisChaos11 жыл бұрын
Aircraft operate at great ranges and anyone operating aircraft in a combat scenario needs to have perfect vision to be able to identify ground targets, spot incoming air power or worse, incoming fire, and more. Much like a sniper, having excellent vision is very important. Any chances of someone misreading a situation needs to be avoided. Combat is unforgiving. Best not to take any chances.
