I could never forget! My 2 brothers were drafted in 67 and 68....both in the Marines...one came home with nightmares for months and the other did not survive...😢

I served in the USMC 1964-1968. Those 4 years taught me more than any other 4 year period. As I look back 60 years later the benefits of that time, and being able to take advantage of the GI Bill completely changed my life. I am honored to have served.

It is sobering to understand that 16.1 MILLION Americans served in WWII, and 671,000+ gave the ultimate scarifice for freedom, not counting the over one million that were wounded, all so this country can exist as it is today. A young Marine by the name of Jack Johnson from Squaw Valley California escorted my brother home from San Diego and spent time with my sister and I in the days before his burial. I have never met a finer man. And even that doesn't really say how I feel. Much Love and Blessings forever. Eddy

This is such a difficult time for me. They paid the ultimate price for defending democracy and our country. The memories are still alive and vivid for me. Holding hands with a critically wounded soldier and knowing it was no use that whatever my flight paramedic and I did it was hopeless fills me with regret to this day. 😢

Semper Fi. 1954 (when I was just barely 17) to 1962. Also lost my big brother 15 years older and I was 5 during ww2. Feb 1943 He died in a b-17 crash.

The Medal - Once when I was about 8 years old, I asked my Uncle Harold to show me his medals from “the war.” He looked at me kind of funny and then dug out a locked toolbox in his workshop. Inside were all kinds of medals on bright ribbons. “Uncle Harold, what are these for?” “Nephew, you remember the reverend talking about hell last Sunday?” “Yes sir.” “I got these here for going there and coming back.” He paused and then picked up a medal that hung on a long blue ribbon with white stars. “This your Uncle Jack got for going. . . he didn’t get to come back.” Years later I came to understand what he meant. Thank you Im grateful Our prayers are with you. What words could possibly do jiustice to their sacrifice ? Yes we take a day as a nation to remember but most of us are on vacation barbecuing. getting away from it all for a three day weekend. Perhaps thats the real tribute. We might not always think of our fallen countfymen but their service and dedication is celebrated everyday. When we are just living our lives free and in peace we honor them. Every child on his way to school to learn. Every one headed to their house of worship tjis Sunday morning. Everyone spending the day at the park with family and friends. All are a living tribute to those who gave their lives so thst we might live in peace and freedom. Everyday is truly memorial day and I for one am humbled and mindful of the fact that my life is possible becsuse you sacrificed yours. Rest in peace .
