@@davidfischer1971 Oh yes, you can. You just haven't provided enough evidence for me to change my mind. Of course Portnoy created a generation of drummers. As Neil did. Including Portnoy. I've been playing drums for the past 25 years now. I listen only to heavy metal, jazz and blues, for about 30y now. So I know a thing or two. Portnoy is a legend, but not as exciting anymore. So is Danny, the last tool album is fantastic. But they are consistent, brilliant drummers at what they do. Nothing new album in, album out. I can say the same about Thomas Haake, Richard Christy, Gene Hoglan and those other ungodly folks that are masters at this instrument. But, if you listen to every Gojira album, Mario is evolving his playstyle, chops, tricks, it all. I base my position on the fact that he is always evolving and bringing something new to the pot. The way he uses crashes, the odd times, unexpected chokes and fills. Everything seems different. It is REALLY hard to come up with new concepts and chops nowadays. Everything has been made before. By those exact ppl I mentioned before. Somehow he pulls it off. See? Maybe you have a different point of view and can change mine.

That was amazing Mario!! You are such a big influence on my drumming style. How does someone with your talent stay creative with drumming? I find my self playing the same licks and practicing the same songs.
@Arkansya5 жыл бұрын
Listen his solo, it's not about licks but musical phrasing : you can sing what he's playing, try to achieve that, listen to lots of good music in many genres and you will never run out of ideas :)

Thats how its done guys. This is Mario holding back... He didn't even use his left bass drum once.

Why bothering having a 2nd bass drum when you can OBLITERATE one pedal as seen in 2:50
@drummerguy40325 жыл бұрын
Twice the obliteration!

I've been marvelling at that! Like, jfc is he just heel-toe-ing that one pedal like a complete maniac?
@CABOITEAU5 жыл бұрын
@@SageSavage I would say he's using the 'slide' technique here. I've rarely seen it played that fast! 😮
@doctajuice5 жыл бұрын
So he can play a whole show without his right leg falling off. A lot of drummers will do things like this for one-off showcases but will play it differently live in order to save energy and make it through a whole set

I watched 2:50 about 15 times trying to see what you guys are calling fast. Obviously you guys have never seen death metal drumming if you think this is fast. This guy is a great drummer, but to say he obliterates this pedal? Gotta expand your listening a little. Try this for starters kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKLdi6CEpsmKmc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqG6domDrL-gepo

J'adore Gojira et une raison pourquoi je les adore sont les tambours et il n'y a personne qui a assez du talent que Mario! Il est exceptionel et toujours une grande inspiration pour moi-même

Why is nobody talking about the smooth transition at 1:56 ??
@ErimlRGG5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That was smooth af divides the feeling of the solo very well. I'm not a drummer so I was confused about his snare and had to go back to see where he puts the snare on (i think the brush thingy is called snare, i'm not a drummer)
