Hello, I'm a mod in the game of life. I'm here to ask you to stop hacking and data mining. You're breaking the game Bro wtf, how did his parents ascend to a new level of precognition like that..? This is one of those 'wait, is life just a twelve year old mashing action figures into each other' moments...... Is our reality constructed.......? Is Mario a character who plays the role of an abstractum...? Am I just some old and worn green army-man tossed to the side and left to observe this awfully on-the-nose display of imagination........?

What I love about this (and 'Minotaur) is that, not only are they technically impressive, but they sound and feel like actual songs and that every part of it fits. It's like he is telling a short, but powerful story through his kit. Amazing drummer.

Honestly this is a pretty good drum solo. Any drummer with access to the internet and knows a few basic drum concepts can spend 5 minutes trying to impress people with chops. But this is surprisingly melodic. Of course he has chops, but he always finds a way back into a the melody of the drum solo. This dude isn't just a drummer. He's a musician.

@@davidfischer1971 Oh yes, you can. You just haven't provided enough evidence for me to change my mind. Of course Portnoy created a generation of drummers. As Neil did. Including Portnoy. I've been playing drums for the past 25 years now. I listen only to heavy metal, jazz and blues, for about 30y now. So I know a thing or two. Portnoy is a legend, but not as exciting anymore. So is Danny, the last tool album is fantastic. But they are consistent, brilliant drummers at what they do. Nothing new album in, album out. I can say the same about Thomas Haake, Richard Christy, Gene Hoglan and those other ungodly folks that are masters at this instrument. But, if you listen to every Gojira album, Mario is evolving his playstyle, chops, tricks, it all. I base my position on the fact that he is always evolving and bringing something new to the pot. The way he uses crashes, the odd times, unexpected chokes and fills. Everything seems different. It is REALLY hard to come up with new concepts and chops nowadays. Everything has been made before. By those exact ppl I mentioned before. Somehow he pulls it off. See? Maybe you have a different point of view and can change mine.

I found a new favourite drummer today, holy cheese flutes, this guy is incredible, I love how he kept reinterpreting the same phrase through triplets and quarters etc. Just started checking our Gojira too, pretty good stuff right there ;)

@@johnvincent1823 I grew up on Neil Peart, seen both him and Mario Duplantier live in person. And I can tell you that Mario has every right to be in the same sentence as Neil Peart. Mario is hands down the best death metal drummer i've heard and most creative. And i've been drumming for a long time to know that. I've played in Jazz bands, seen a lot of Jazz drummers, and Mario is up there with some of the best to ever do it.

I don’t know how I went so long with out knowing the band Gojira. I’ve only recently started listening to them in the last 3 or 4 months and I’m absolutely hooked. I don’t know if this has any bearing but I’m a big korn fan. Started listening to them in 1998 in middle school and have been obsessed ever since, and I just now discover this gem of a band. I listen to mouth of kala daily multiple times a day. The last minute and a half of that song is incredible.

This guy is a great drummer, but to say he obliterates this pedal? Gotta expand your listening a little.
