I wish there were more live videos available of him. In my opinion he seems to be extremely underrated outside of the flamenco mainstream. Speaking as someone who doesn't truly understand the genre, I still feel that he should be as highly regarded as Sabicas (maybe he is). Aside from the technical prowess both had, I liked their classic and tasteful approach. Perhaps Mario, more so. Some of his older recordings should, in my opinion, be seen as some of the gold standards for traditional flamenco

Thank you. And, I have to say, that unfortunately the videos don´t do justice to him as he was already on in age and battling the beginning of alzheimer and parkinson which he got very early in his life. I will very likely be posting some much better recordings of him from years earlier. His style of playing was very different from my godfather, Sabicas, or Paco de Lucia, as he had a very strong classical guitar background which he in turn got from Ramon Montoya, and Ramon from Miguel Llobet, pupil of Tarrega. That was not the case with Sabicas or Paco de Lucia for that matter...and you can tell. Each has their focus and merits. Regards.

I have read that he had parkinsons but didn't know about the alzheimer's. That's too bad. I'm very much looking forward to seeing more videos of him. Just from the small cluster already on YT, noen of which are from his younger days, show just how good he is. I managed to get a hold of this gem a couple years ago: www.discogs.com/release/9996526-Mario-Escudero-Mario-Escudero-Plays-Classical-Flamenco-Music It's perhaps his most representative record. Regardless, it's my favorite.

@@Mancubus This was the last album he recorded (in the winter of 1968), and issued in early 1969. Has most of his best known works. I was not yet 11 and sat with him through the whole process of how a record is made. Exciting learning experience and wonderful engineers. Dr. Naida, the owner at the time of MHS, was so surprised I enjoyed listening to classical music, he called out one of his employees and told him to take me to the warehouse and let me pick out all the records I wanted...and did I! Still have most of them. Wonderful and obviously a very generous man. 🙂Enjoy the record.
