Why are Sonic's and Samus's names not in uppercase? And why does Sonic sound so bad? Heck, why are many of the voices so high pitched?

Because N64 sound tool sometimes port at wierd pitches. It would take a lot of extra work to get them imported correctly. Also, you have to deal with the issue that playsound function typically takes sound effects and changes the pitch. For example, in SM64, camera turn, coin, goomba alert, and many other sounds are shared by the same file, with just different pitches or effects. This hack is impressive as it is, expanding the character slots with custom code, so i wouldn't complain too much.

Oh and don't forget, you cannot import sounds bigger than the original ones. If you do, they will either get cut off early (if you expand the soundbank) or overwrite sounds which makes the sound in the rom die inside

Sound effects and voice sampling is hard. The rom has been stretched just for all these new characters so back off noobs. Shit isn't easy and takes time. Good video thanks for showing all the characters. Really impressed with sprites turn out.
