I'm kinda fed up with Mario Kart at this point, so I decided to make a rant on why I personally hate Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass. Specifically, I discuss what it has on offer and what it means for the future of the Mario Kart franchise and Mario Kart 9.

I'm sorry Demeech as I love your content, but I can't respect your opinion. Correct me if I read this wrong, but you're essentially saying that Wii U games shouldn't be on Switch. 99% of Switch owners never owned a Wii U and most of the ones that did would appreciate the extra content in some of these games. Yeah, some of the ports are essentially useless to Wii U owners like New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, but they're not hurting anyone. But Switch Sports is shit, terribe excuse for a Wii Sports successor, would've rather have a port of Wii Sports Club instead

Bruh lets tell Nintendo to port all Switch games to their next future console just to compensate people who currently don't own the switch but will buy the next console.

@@simples9987 Waluigi Pinball was done dirty. I also think the changes to Mario Circuit 3 and Mushroom Gorge's themes are too subtle and honestly? I think the changes to he percussion are just not good for those two. The rest of the remixes sound yum though. And of course Sky-High Sundae's exempt from this because it's a new course without a remixed theme.

1. MK9 will most likely have all of the tracks from previous games, with updated graphics and adjusted to new mechanics (such as Diddy Kong Racing flying, water sliding/skiing & water swimming so you can choose weather to stay underwater or in its surface with the waves slowing you down but you can use them as jump boosts and maybe Karts will be able to jump higher for avoiding obstacles or taking shortcuts) and previous mechanics (Antigravity and Slide Jumps). That means that adjusting each track is a lot of work, even if not all of the mechanics I mentioned are included in the game, remastering ALL of the Mario Kart Tracks in history and adjusting them to all of the mechanics is quite the task. Not to mention the newer (Nitro Cups) tracks that have to differ from ALL the retro tracks. 2. More characters are likely to be included, that means that the more things a character can do in the game, the more you have to animate and program for each character. Not as heavy work as in Smash Bros. but still. But also, the more characters you have, the more costume designs you have to include. Becasue, yeah, Mario and friends will be the ones to have the most costumes (not counting color variations, that will most likely be included so the ones that don’t have many costumes can at least use those too), but there will be at least one alternative costume per character, so there’s also that. And also, they’ll bring back the character exclusive items, so they’ll have to come up with great ideas for each character or pair of characters or such… So that adds up. 3. Story/Campaign/Adventure mode will (should 😅) be added, with cutscenes and all, so that is a VERY big task to add. Including mission mode (Like in MKDS), that will likely be a part of story mode but once played you can replay it to get a better record or something. 3. Battle mode will (should 🙏🏼) also bring back all of the previous courses and previous sub-modes. Remember that updating the graphics and adjusting to new and current mechanics is no light task. But now, they’ll also have to implement new tracks and new sub-modes. Not only that, they’ll also have to add various other modes aside from Story Mode and Battle mode, so there’s also that. 4. Items. They’ll bring back all of the items and tweak the ones that weren’t very good. They’ll also add new items and they have to be creative, so there’s that. I wish they also implement ALL of the MK Arcade Games’ items (which are a TON). The way it works is that yeah, there’s a point in which having that many items would become not balanced or something… So what they do is that they make you choose from types of items: So there’s offense, defense and some other type that I can’t remember right now, so in each type, you choose from a variety of items, which you’ll have in your repertoire when hitting and item box, that way, you can choose to have the chance to use the items that accommodate more to your play-style and such. 5. Including characters from other games may mean that also tracks from those games will have to be made, and if those characters are from second or third parties, they’ll have to work with them to come to an agreement and what will be done and coordinate to create the content. For example Pikachu (Gamefreak), Pac-Man (which has already appeared in MK Arcade Games) (Bandai Namco), Sonic (SEGA), Megaman (Capcom). Knowing that in MK8 Deluxe, there were Mii costumes unlocked with amiibo of these previously mentioned characters (except for Pikachu), it gives us more chance for it to happen. Also Bandai Namco has been tasked to help or even fully develop MK games, such as the arcades ones, so Pac-Man is very likely. 6. So for all of those reasons and more, is that MK9 has taken so long to come out. The Mario Kart formula was kinda perfected with MK8, so it won’t be enough to just bring back everything and add some new characters and tracks, they really have to innovate with this one, with out it feeling too difficult to get used to. So it is even better for MK8 to still be around, so that they can wait out the most for players to get bored of it and still get sales for it. Now with the new DLC, what they’re doing is the minimum possible for it to keep going, because it would be a waste to update the vanilla graphics of those Tour tracks, knowing that behind the scenes their focusing on that but for MK9. I prefer to wait how much it takes for MK9 and to be the best possible thing, than to get it now. Even more, knowing what Nintendo is doing with its games now, of releasing them incomplete and updating them later and not even in the end they’re truly what it had to be from the start. Nintendo is losing their touch… So I wish that at least MK9 suffers the least from this and gets released not even with the Switch Pro, but for the Switch 2 or the actual true NX (😂). If this much time has passed without MK 9 and we sure do know that there will still be added content of MK8 until the end of 2023, the earliest we could expect MK9 is at the end of 2024, by then, at the best we will have the Switch Pro and maybe the announcement of Switch 2 so maybe MK9 will release in early 2025. And hopefully it has all of what I mentioned and more. Cuz at least, asking for them to bring back everything from previous games that isn’t currently in MK8, shouldn’t be asking for too much. I hope they learn their lesson with the latest catastrophe of Mario Strikers Battle League.

If you want free DLC for an existing game you have, check out the custom track community, especially for Mario Kart Wii. There are way more than 48 amazing tracks with their own unique styles and themes, beyond anything Nintendo would ever do to that game. They effing ported all Mario Kart 8 tracks into an older game for gods sake. And the game has very underrated fast paced physics mechanics like wheelieing and inside drift. I 100% recommend dusting off your Wii or trying it on the Wii U instead of purchasing tracks you can get for free on other consoles

I agree that it's too bad that the Switch doesn't have any first party racing games to call its own. The next big Mario Kart has always been a staple of a new console generation, but the Switch is a weird exception. I understand the business reasons for this, but you would think development resources that are not being put towards Mario Kart would be put into a different franchise. Unfortunately, the only sign of a new racing game was Star Fox Racing, which turned out to be a fake project to oust leakers.

The Mario Kart Booster Course Pass DLC promo art has the karts in anti-gravity mode, so I'm sure at least some of the DLC tracks will have anti-gravity.

I get what you mean, but I already have known for years we wouldn't get a new mariokart anytime soon, so while I would prefer a new game, I'm glad we are getting new courses, even if they are downgraded from the quality of other mariokart 8 courses. I really like all of the tracks, even if they are tour ports. Lots of people don't like playing tour, so it's good they brought them to mariokart 8. And you didn't mention the quality of the songs on the new tracks. They are amazing, better than what I was expecting. So they made this dlc for those who want more content on mariokart 8. So honestly, I'm fine with the new dlc. It's definitely worth the price too, I mean come on 48 remastered tracks for $25 isn't bad at all. 48 courses is the same amount mk 8 deluxe literally had before this new dlc. So I disagree with you overall.

Yeah I mostly agree with what you're saying. If I wasn't so biassed against Mario Kart, I probably would have been able to enjoy it a lot more. I just don't really think it's worth the price ($37.50 RIP) nor really worth claiming that it's comparable to the tracks in 8. Sure it's the same quantity, but not quality if that makes any sense.

But I'm still fine with it, and this is a great opportunity to bring back fan favourite courses or courses that haven't been remade before in a style similar to Tour with remixed songs. I honestly wonder if Nintendo is just using this DLC to buy time for themselves while they work on something new, because it seems really random to drop a DLC like this after so many years of ignoring the game. And the graphical downgrade tells me that the team working on the DLC isn’t the same team that worked on Mario Kart 8. It feels rushed, like they needed something quick to keep players at bay, while the main team is off doing something else. Who knows.

I enjoyed some of it, but Toad Circuit and Shroom Ridge were so boring and a complete waste of space, and overall the graphics were subpar. I would have liked a few new characters too. It’s a shame Nintendo just ported content from Tour. They could have done a bit more to bring them to life a bit more. Why not Ninjis on Ninja Hideaway instead of Shy Guys?

Trust me everybody, This DLC is worse than the Wii U's DLC because I wanted "Real Nitro Tracks", "some Metro Tracks", "No Tour Tracks", "a little bit of Retro Tracks", and definitely "No Peachette" The main problem is that Tour isn't even on a Nintendo Console but they added that dump in anyways and all I ever wanted was "Real DLC" I even wanted to sue Nintendo for adding that dump into the game and not even moving on to new Nitro Tracks but the problem is Nintendo added New Battle Tracks when the game was first ported and we had the Inklings in the game as new characters and the Inkling Girl pulled the bat at us which was funny at first until they removed it in the first update but later Nintendo made the Booster Course Pass and never focused on Real Tracks Problem Inverted

I may be a bit of a "glass half full" guy, but honestly? If this DLC means Mario Kart 9 spends more time in the oven and (hopefully) becoming better and better, I'll gladly have this DLC if 9 is going to be amazing. Because keep in mind: It has to somehow top what MK8 did. And considering how well 8 Deluxe sold, that's not going to be an easy feat to accomplish. Though the release of Mario Golf: Super Rush and Mario Strikers: Battle League Football have me worried they'll give 9 a shoddy release that gets fixed with patches. I sure hope not though. That'd be awful. :< Besides, again, with 8 Deluxe *still* selling like hotcakes, releasing 9 on the Switch would actually be a bad business decision. It would end up splitting the online communities of those games. Or they wouldn't bother with 9 because 8 Deluxe is already on the Switch. I hate to say it, but 9 is going to have to release on its own platform in order for it to stand out. Also, with all due respect, a lot of your video sounded rather overdramatic. Examples being the small change to Coconut Mall where the cars are no longer moving and half pipes allegedly being removed from the track (Coconut Mall never had those), as well as wanting to give up on Mario Kart just because of this. I'm pretty sure you're better than that. It's not the end of the world. (Though I don't like how these tracks' artstyle clashes with the base game's tracks' artstyle.)

But considering Nintendo's track record, I'm a bit worried. Really; one reason I don't mind sticking with MK8 is said worries. I've even been branching out to other racing games like CTR Nitro-Fueled and The Crew 2 because I needed my racing game itch scratched. The DLC for 8 Deluxe has also helped because as much as I want 9 and I want it to be good, I can only race on the same tracks so often before I get bored. Again, I'm not saying you're wrong. And seriously I don’t think ANYBODY wants those tracks because they suck. So the arcade games aren’t canon to the Mario Kart. And as for Diddy Kong Racing, even if THAT game’s tracks were brought to the BCP it still wouldn’t matter because I don’t know if you know this but Diddy Kong Racing is not a Mario Kart game because it’s a Donkey Kong game which means it’s not part of the Mario Kart franchise. So really, even if Nintendo brought those 2 into the BCP it still wouldn’t change the fact that Tour is 9

Here’s my problem with people speculating on the DLC in relation to a Mario kart 9. So, the aim of the course packs is to basically have every course from every MK in one game, right? If that’s the case…then what the hell would make Mario Kart 9 sellable to a mass market? This game is going to have like 100 tracks in it…so what would be the point? Same with smash bros, if every character ever is in one place then what do they have to sell people on a new smash bros in the future? I mean, this is the era of diminishing returns in the graphics department.

It's a shame because I really would have loved to just get a standard mario kart sequel, but this DLC is apparently enough to satiate both fans and Nintendo, and it's definietely muddying the water for the future direction of the series. 9 will probably be a completely different beast to the rest of the series at this point. It has to be. And who knows what they're going to do with Smash? I don't really know how to feel about it, I guess only time will tell.. like 5-10 years RIP.

@@WumbleWasp I would be more than happy to get a Mario Kart 9, but this current era of Nintendo is just so safe and low effort with nearly everything they do and it seems like with both franchises theyve been gearing up for these entries to basically be the last ones. A port for a new device aka switch 2? Sure. I've been so fundamentally apposed to the idea of the switch from the start, mostly coming from somone who loved their handheld systems and the fact that the handheld systems had entirely new experiences that were never on the home system, and vice versa. No matter how cool playing MK on the toilet might be for some, its not worth sacrificing the DS line to do it.

But the thing is that not a lot of people had a Wii U so thay also means Mario Kart 8 one of the worst selling Mariokarts. Mariokart 8 deluxe is only popular because nobody played the first Mario kart 8. To a lot of people, Mariokart 8 Deluxe is a brand new game to a lot of people, including me. So 48 retro tracks isn't bad, especially for $25, which is more than a normal game. And even then, if Nintendo made Mariokart 9, it would look exactly the same as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Nothing would change except the characters and tracks Also something that made me annoyed is that everyone is mad at the Sky Garden redesign, when Nintendo did the same thing to Ribbon Road and Cheeseland but nobody said anything about that. Also we're getting Mario kart Tour City Tracks, which is brand new to tons of people. The only track that looks like it has bad graphics is Shroom Ridge, but other than that, the graphics look the same from the base game.

I got news for you, people are allowed to like whatever they want. I have never played Tour before and I find the Paris and Tokyo Tracks to be my favorite, not to mention Ninja Hideaway is awesome as well. Telling people what they should or shouldn't be happy with never works. So what if its Tour Tracks? Who are you to decide what I should or shouldn't experience? I'm just glad we got something new regardless. I also think if Mario Kart 9 came out, it would be met with disappointment. Mario Kart is a Brand Name, NIntendo Kart won't happen. There is no way Nintendo would ditch the Mario Kart name for a Nintendo Kart game. You really shouldn't hold people in contempt for enjoying Wave 1, it makes you come off as petty and entitled.

This booster pass is a ripoff. All of the cool courses that should have been added to the base game cost $25 dollars more. Thats the cost of my action figures. Nintendo is slowly moving into a treacherous and greedier path since they dropped the nintendo switch online expansion pass.

I think the only course I have an actual problem with is toad circuit. Its a boring and uneventful course, the plain textures and kinda weird lighting make it kind of a sleeper to play and look at. I understand the graphics and understand why people dont like them, but honestly i prefer the simpler textures and brighter colors its what I know mario for. Not gritty realism and washed out colors. I think 8s artstyle was made just to show how much the wii u could handle. A lot of tracks in 8s artstyle are def good. But theres also a handful that kinda look off and not as good.

As much as I love 8's graphics, the one track I do have a problem with is Moo Moo Meadows. They visually ruined this one. It looks very dull and bland and makes the track boring to play for me. It's a decent track, ignoring the graphics but if it had they bright colourful daytime graphics but still with that little bit of realism, it would honestly be better than the Wii version.

Be careful what you wish for. If you want a quick new Mario Kart game you may just get it at the price of poor quality and lack of content. The dlc is an example of them rushing to fit in an order for you people. Give it time. I would have prefer the dlc to be released in December each year of the two year plan they have only for them to make the quality top notch MK8DX quality.

I don't think they're rushing this DLC. I just don't think they had the intention to make new (HQ) content in the first place. And I mean, it's been 8 years since 8 released, and will easily be over a decade by the time the next game will come out. How is that pumping out a quick new rushed Mario Kart game? These games only take about 3 years on average to develop, not 15. Even if they started development right now this second, there would still be more than enough time to make a solid entry by the time the Switch successor comes out.
