Today, in my final hour as a kid, I decided to listen to this piece again. I remember commenting here a few years ago. Who knew all this crazy stuff was going to happen in the last few years? We have all come a long way since our Mario Kart DS days, and whatever memories we have associated with it. I experienced this game for the first time as a 7 year old. I was reintroduced to it 7 years later as a 14 year old. I come back to it once more right before I turn 18. My view on life sure has changed in the last few years. Legacies formed and ended, visions developed, maturity came around, and new skills were picked up. I had no idea that I'd be able to read Japanese now. Nintendo games, especially Mario Kart DS and Wii were bangers that were one of my favorite childhood games and contributed to shape who I am today. And that’s (partially) why I’ll still love Nintendo today, no matter how much the haters are gonna bully me for this. That’s not even just nostalgia talking: I replayed MKDS and MKWii as a grown-up and it aged so damn well. Not a single part of the game is less fun today than it was before. Playing on Airship Fortress, Tick-Tock Clock, Peach Gardens, Coconut Mall, or Wii Rainbow Road is just as fun today as it was back in my childhood. Thank you, Nintendo.

I'm about to pour my heart out into a comment no one else will care about, won't I? No matter. I found this cartridge randomly one day on the kitchen counter. I asked my dad if I could have it and he said yes. Boy I was immediately hooked. The nitro tracks were honestly all peak, and even the retro tracks to my six year old brain were pretty good. The mission mode was amazing, the battle and versus mode were impeccable, and it was just pure fun. I remember bringing my DS to school on certain days just to do some versus on Waluigi Pinball until I wasn't allowed to bring it because someone was apparently allergic to magnets like bruuhhh. Eventually I wasn't playing it as often as I used to, but whenever I would, *boy* it would be a treat to play. I actually never got any unlockables, but I was able to make it to World 7 on mission mode. Eventually I ended up losing the cartridge, still without any unlockables, and without seeing the credits even once. While this might sound stupid, it was definitely a little heart-wrenching at first, especially since I consider this to be one of the best games in the series. Yet somehow... the credits are nostalgic as * f##k*. Man I miss this game. I'd kill to boot the game up again someday, on my classic blue 3ds with an atrocious 3-minute battery life.
