MayroSMM heck, the track is not boring, the memories of the intensity of if you're gonna make it past the train or not. You always had to make a decision whether to risk it or not when the train was nearby :')

Most of it is basically a straight line and you have to stop for the train. Turns are far from satisfying and the scenery is also pretty boring. But I do agree the song sets the scene well and it's a neat idea.

+Zeroxlulu No. Kalimari Desert is definitely not the best song in Mario Kart, not even a particularly good song. Memories of you playing the game being triggered by the song is all well and good, but you are living in nostalgia-land. I mean, it is understandable that you'd like to paint songs from your childhood in a better light and merge nostalgia with reality, but when it comes to beat, melody, hook and tempo, things like Rainbow Road, Koopa Beach, Waluigi's Pinball (yeah, screw Wario Stadium) and, heck, even the battle theme from the SNES completely nukes Kalimari Desert. It's just so repetetive and droning. I WILL say though, that this rendition was definitely an improved version over the original; it is at the very least enjoyable to listen to.

I really think your instrument choice for this song is well suited! My only gripe is that the second half sounds too "happy." The original tracks gave the second half a very somber feeling, which I felt accented the very lonesome feeling of the track. No one to hear you race around except the passengers of the train. To be specific, my issue is not in the tempo or the choice of chords. I feel that it's the balance or roles of the instruments. I hear too many "bright" instruments, such as the... cimbalom (? The one that replaces what was a banjo in the original.) playing over "drawn-out" instruments such as the organ, which isn't given its usual lengthy chords. It still sounds amazing! It's just that this is one of my favorite songs among all the Mario Karts, so I'm understandably sensitive to its portrayal. In summary, if you are not already, ensure that the atmosphere of the original track is kept!

I'm going to preface by saying that I don't say what I'm about to say with any intent to disagree with your opinion; you're entirely entitled to your thoughts and opinions, and I even will admit that I agree they're entirely valid! Rather, I simply wanted to share with you my perspective when listening to this remaster. In short, I picture a hypothetical Mario Kart 8 rendition of Kalimari Desert as having many scenic additions to it. Mainly, I actually picture it going through Tostarena (the Sand Kingdom's capital) from Odyssey. Tostarena is a very jovial and festive locale, so I think the upbeat take on the Kalimari Desert track theme is a perfect fit for it. Just imagine driving through a Mexican-styled locale with all sorts of brightly coloured flags and decorations put up all over the place, with crowds of Tostarenans dancing and cheering for the racers excitedly. If you think of it that way, then this remaster is perfect, in my opinion.

As a bit of an, ahem, train 'nut', it's intrigued me after listening to this splendid remix what a re-envisioned Kalimari Desert course would look like, with the fitting twist that the racers ran cart-sized equivalents of steam locomotives through a canyon and mines. I indeed have a conceptual sketch suggesting what it would look like, with one of the trains being a scaled-down version of the one from the original course. Of course, Kalamari Desert may not be the best of courses, because of its blandness, and the music isn't very fit for a race. It's more fit for, say, a journey through the desert, but not a sweltering, sandy desert. A desert like Kalamari Desert. You know, with mesas.
