When I was young, I took YEARS to finish the game because I was stuck on that barrel minigame.

The interesting thing from what I have observed over my playtime on each game in the Mario & Luigi series is that it's consistently about 20 hours for my first save file. (Beating the game) The only two exceptions so far for me were Partners in Time (only 18 hours) and Dream Team (25 hours)

@Tom S. My 100 hour save file is me as a kid being stupid. Skipped every enemy I could, didn't realize I can choose the bonus when I got a level up (So I only put it in the default, which is HP). Nearly every boss took a few hours, even days to beat until I pretty much knew the attacks perfectly. I also really wanted to have the best price from that surfing minigame, and that game is effing hard...

As a kid I had a save file dedicated to that exact scene just because it was so perfect. The impression was so good that even I had no idea what was happening. The way Bowletta outted Luigi and the subsequent reaction was comedic timing at its finest (this series in general had excellent comedic timing, even if the jokes don't always land), and the entire scene was actually just the high point of the series.

9:16 to anyone who hasn't played this game yet, one thing that should be mentioned is that putting the Bonus Points into the same Stat every time isn't actually as good of an Idea as it seems, because if you keep increasing the same Stat multiple times in a row, the game starts rigging the roll to only give you small numbers like +1 or +2. You're supposed to keep spreading the Bonuses around, because if do, they keep increasing as you go, raising to +3, +4, and so on, which more than offsets not putting points into the same one *every* time.

For attack that doesnt really matter. While it is true you mostly only get +1 or +2 after rolling the same stat three times in a row, your attack gets ridiciulous even with just a +1, making the other stats (outside of speed) pretty much useless. If you battle every enemy you find in a place and later on use the item E. Gadd gives you (the item that doubles your Exp when you beat an enemy without taking damage), your attack is crazy, making every other stat useless.

@@TMG-Germany My point was that you can reach close-enough-to, if not pretty much just as high Attack to be just as overpowered without leaving everything else needlessly underdeveloped, which can still matter for someone who may still make mistakes with their commands every now and then. It's why I specified "people who haven't played this yet" at the start. Look, I'm not even saying "absolutely never do this", but simply that you can get better effects while still having the same result in the end.

As for the Mario Bros inclusion... Nintendo most likely was going for the whole concept of, "If you have one of our Mario GBA titles and your friends have other Mario GBA titles, you can all still have multiplayer gameplay, despite owning different titles." I'd reccommend alternating between attack and stache, a npc actually tells you that the more times you upgrade a stat in a row the lower the numbers in the roulette become, so instead of a +1 in attack you can throw a +5 in stache and another +5 in attack the next time

@@dmas7749 A lot of battles in this game can end pretty quickly. Speed can make all the difference between each enemy attacking once and each attacking twice, which is a big difference proportionally. It can be a huge time save after a few dozen battles.

@@ethanhayes7038: i can't say that i've really messed with speed, but another thing RPGs do to make it more worthwhile is decide your actions before turn order starts...can't say i'm a fan of it, but everyone acts on their turn in SSS, making that advantage far less advantageous... just making sure i heard you right, but having a high enough speed lets you take a second action, or having a very low speed lets enemies take it instead, right? if that's so it's better than i considered "A lot of battles in this game can end pretty quickly." for the enemies, SMT this ain't

I actually really liked Bowser's Minions. You don't do a whole lot but there's a good deal of strategy that goes into team comp and it's satisfying to watch your guys yeet the enemy team out of existence. The protagonist, Captain Goomba actually goes through a really neat character arc too. I would totally recommend it myself.

This freaking game!! Still one of my favorites, and my gateway into RPGs as a whole. While Bowser's Inside Story is considered the best by many, I'm more partial to this one. If only because I prefer the idea of the brothers fighting using themselves instead of the usual items. I knew about the cut Nintendo characters during the coffee portion, but I was not aware they had actual sprites!! Now I really wish they were included.

This is one of the best written games ever published by Nintendo. I love Inside Story's dialogue but I still appreciate how much more "quirky" Superstar Saga's dialogue is in comparison. It's such a special game that makes me laugh by how ridiculous some of the situations Mario and Luigi get into. I still miss Alphadream alot but seeing the Mario and Luigi RPG series getting so much love makes me really happy as a fan. Now more people can tryout and play this amazing series thanks you Antdude. It’s worth noting, AlphaDream were actually comprised of veterans who worked for Square Enix prior. The director of Superstar Saga is the same guy who directed Super Mario RPG.
