I think the game audio went significantly out of synch with the gameplay footage when you looked at the Homing Thwomp (10 minutes). Jared remained in Synch with himself so this is an editing error. It corrected after this fight.

I wish they had some Final Fantasy VI bosses since they used Decisive Battle. Valigarmanda might've worked, where you gotta melt the ice with fireballs while dodging elemental spells.

OMG, JARED! I love Super Mario 2! And to answer your question: neither, Super Mario Advance version of Super Mario 2. It's an update to the game with a brand new boss that wasn't in the original or All-stars versions.

Master Chuck’s “teleport uppercut” is probably the dash attack from the Kunio-kun series and if it is, I love them for doing that. The ground slam attack with fire is Akuma’s alternate super most known from 3rd Strike. He even does a very Akuma style teleport in the air beforehand. Chuck hurting his hand from it is super adorable tho. Also the symbol on Master Chuck’s back is the same as Akuma’s kanji on his gi.

I'd love a playthrough of Mario 2, it's still a lovely game after all these years I'd love the All-stars version, but it's my childhood bias speaking, I grew up with that version and it's my preferred way to play all those games, but if you wish to play the NES version that's great too

Being able to save in the All-Stars version, and therefore (I assume) not having to worry about limited continues would be better suited for a series, as well.

I feel like crapping on Mario 2 was a fad. When people found other people on the internet who will nitpick about stupid things, they crafted a bandwagon of hating on Mario 2 because it wasn't the real Mario 2. But then after awhile, people stopped caring that it wasn't the real Mario 2. Probably because it's a better game, and had more of a lasting impact on the Mario franchise that continues to this day than the uninspired The Lost Levels.

I remember there was a flash game where you fought all kinds of retro bosses with Mario. Having seen this, the selection in that one was a lot better. Though I don't remember how it controlled, probably not good considering the context. If you are able to find and play which one I'm talking about, might be a nice sequel series.

I remember that "Homing Thwomp" under the name Powerthwomp in just about every Mario World romhack between 2000 and 2010. It was never great. This miniseries however was, thanks for showing this off!

Master Chuck is just literally Akuma from street fighter. He heard Mario defeated Jinx and THE MASTER, so he had to test his skills against the legendary plumber who fell those two. This was a cool addition.

Yeah, this was a cool little series. Feel free to take little "breaks" like this whenever, man. You wanna do the Mario Bros. 2 playthrough at some point? Be interesting to see how you go through the game. Don't have a preference on which version you play. I think I played the original more cuz that's the first version that was in the house way back when. Appreciate the brighter colors of the All Stars iteration, but it's whatever really.

I'd be in for a Mario 2 play. I also really enjoyed it as a kid, still enjoy it as an adult, and it's a good time all around... though as a kid I resorted to using just warps upon warps to beat the game, and there's a huge chunk of levels in the middle that I'm waaaay less familiar with. Also those masks that chase you when you have a key are legit still one of the most terrifying entities in all of video gaming history.

7:40 Wart could have been made more interesting by having the Phantos occasionally chase you around or something. I always wished they weren't just for show. Also wait, was there always a tomato in there? I can't even find a sprite for it on Spriters Resource.

NES Mario 2 or All Stars Mario 2? How about the Game Boy Advance Mario 2? (aka Super Mario Advance) They added a number of things to the game even the all-stars one didn't have like collecting a number of special coins per level.

yes to the Mario 2 Playthrough and i would love the all stars version because that's what I grew up with and the majority of Mario 2 Let plays are the Nes version so it would be nice to see another all stars version lets play to the mix

Some of these feel unfinished. For example, I’m not really sure what they’re trying to do with the Dracula Duck. The bridge there makes it WWAAAAAYYY too easy. In the original game you had to bounce off the bats to get high enough to jump on Drac Duck. Here, the bats don’t matter. Jump on Drac’s head a couple times and you’re done.

Nope. Sorry just not a SMB2 fan. 100% NOT a watch from me. I'd watch a no warp whistle SMB3 playthrough any day though. I mean heck my favorite NES games back in the day were were SMB1 and 3, Dragon Warrior 1-3(NOT 4), FF1, Bionic Commando, Mike Tyson's Punchout, Mario Golf, Top Gun, Gauntlet, Blue Marlin, and Shadowgate. It's weird because later on I'd come to love the Metroid, Zelda 1, and the Megaman/Castlevania games.. but as a kid.. hated'em.
