Kratochvilova's 400m leg is insane. She takes the baton and turns back around at 2:32 dead short of the line by 3 metres and almost at a dead stop, she crosses the line after running around the russian and East German thus she's run about 405-6metres and stops the clock at 3:20.8, a circa 48.8 from a standing start having to go around athletes and running further, absolutely bonkers!

Koch's 400 is the most astonishing run I've ever seen on a track. She was an elite runner to begin with. The drugs obviously made a difference, but you don't just go on a drug regimen and run a 47.60. I don't think people understand how insane her time is. Moller's opening 100 in the relay is overlooked also. Looking at how most of these athletes look today, I still don't see how Koch denies use. Have you seen the swimmers lately? They look nothing like they did back when they were competing.
@ynotnilknarf39
@ynotnilknarf39 6 жыл бұрын
The drugs DO make a massive difference because you are effectively running and training as a pseudo male, you simply do not comprehend how much of a difference this makes. Even the androgynous Caster Semenya cannot run the 800m as fast as the 'male' Kratochvilova. If Koch had run the 400m evenly she would have run it in 46 something, she passed through 200m in 22.4s ffs!

@@ynotnilknarf39 It won't guarantee the doped runner running close or under 48s, otherwise we would have seen hundreds of female 48s runners in the last 30-40 years, only 3-4 were able in the history.

@@ynotnilknarf39 Koch is the greatest sprinter the world has ever seen, the only athlete, male or female, who has set WRs at 50m, 60m, 100m, 100yds, 200m, 220yds, 300m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x400m. NO drugs will give you that level of performance over every distance, it requires a sprinter to have an insane start, insane raw speed and insane stamina. She is the only athlete who has ever had all 3 of them and run all of those distances at elite level. If it was just a question of drugs all the other athletes would have been doing it, Koch however was alone in doing so. Whilst the obviously drugged up Jamaicans have got very close to Flo's 100 and 200m records with the new shoes and tracks now, Koch's 400m time is still WAY out of sight.

Back then: Drugs? HELL YEAH!! Today: Drugs? HELL YEAH!! Only difference is that today a whole new science has emerged. The science of masking , which makes certain drugs in the body undetectable. I say let em take whatever the hell they want and let the biggest freak win. Isn't that what we want to see anyway?

The times they where running and distances they where jumping and throwing back then. They where like 40/50 years ahead of their time. Just now the gap is slightly starting to close, but still not nearly enough to challenge what they where doing back then. 10.6 for jetter at the 100m, 21.6 for schippers at 200m. It's been 10 years since richards ross ran 48.7 at the 400m. Will i ever see any of these records broken in my lifetime, i very much doubt it, which for track and field is bitterly disappointing.
@swav.zielin
@swav.zielin 8 жыл бұрын
If they nullified these records from the books you would see them broken periodically. The problem is they had a doping system in place that allowed for these women to perform like men. These "acheivements" are not impressive but frightening. They might have them on the record books but if you read the comments here everyone knows how not authentic they are. To give a clue how they go about their athletes, the entire Russian federation athletics teams (men and women) were just banned from Rio! Imagine what they got away with then if they do still went about it now like it was the norm. These "world records" are bullshit. Jackie Joyner-Kersee is the world record holder in the long jump in my book and whoever is next in line in these events not from the soviet/bloc.

Not the same. Joyner-Kersee has consistently maintained that she has competed throughout her career without performance-enhancing drugs. On the other hand... "In 2001, the BBC claimed she (Drechsler) has admitted to unknowingly taking prohibited substances in the early 1980s under orders from her team doctors"

No, you're probably right. The world records from 100 to 800 will stand for years to come. Marita's 400 may stand forever. It would take an extremely gifted runner with a doping regimen to beat that 47.60. I can't even remember when someone ran a sub 49. Koch would have been great without the drugs. People think you can just give an athlete steroids and they automatically run faster. It doesn't work that way. East Germany also had superior training methods, but the drugs allowed them to maintain their brutal training regimens. Felix could probably come close if she was on the gear.

Yes, most of the East Europeans were high on steroids. But, I've got some startling news for you. Hairy armpits have nothing to do with drugs. All women (and men) have natural hair in their armpits and, for that matter, their legs, too. It is simply a matter of personal choice and local custom whether they shave it off, or not.

The Eastern Bloc get all the bad press because they used steroids that could be tested for. The West used ones back then foe which tests came in much later. Marita Koch world 200m record was 21.71 and Felix ran 21.81, so only a tenth of a second down on that old mark, albeit we all know the impossible Flo Jo time of 21.34 is another controversial record that nobody clamours to have erased over 100m or 200m because she's not East German maybe? There were cheats on both sides and some of the western ones also got caught eventually, but to just blame the East Europeans for being the only dopers is a double standard and as somebody quite rightly pointed out below - Coe's record over 800m was just as controversial. Now he tries to target and ban other countries when his times may also have been suspect back in the 80s. Cheating and doping is everywhere on all sides and always has been.
@marknorris1381
@marknorris1381 4 жыл бұрын
There is a difference in regards to Coe's time. Whilst it stood for 16 years that world record has been lowered six times since then. The women's 100, 200, 400 & 800 metre records have all stood for decades, out of reach, and just a farce to clean sport. Anyone who takes any of those records seriously is kidding themselves.
@user-ui6kv2np8i
@user-ui6kv2np8i 3 жыл бұрын
100% agree on Coe. Imo doped to the gills as well. I remember that he had a mysterious blood disorder at one point in the 80s, imo, probably a side effect of drugs. Michael Johnson's stroke is also possibly because of drugs too. ALL elite athletes dope. You either dope or sit at home and watch others on tv.
@LPCLASSICAL
@LPCLASSICAL 2 жыл бұрын
Coe's record was exceptional but not surprising. In 1977 he ran 1.44 - in 1978 he ran 1.43 - in 1979 he ran 1.42 and in 1981 he ran 1.41. So a gradual progression and he was clearly an exceptional talent. Contrast that with Alan Wells who went from being a long jumper in 1977 to a 10.2 100M runner in 1978. Nobody in athletics from those days ever suggested the UK middle distance stars were taking anything and there is 0 evidence against them.

where would these sprinters be now if doping was being managed in the 70's , 80's, and maybe even the 90's? Fast yes, but not super fast! Schippers, Felix and a few of the others, would be the top all time greats, with years left to go in their careers! Also, it is beyond my comprehension how sorne athletes like Marion Jones, could lie so well! So convincing for such a long time! Looks like an Angel, but beneath the exterior is a vicious liar! Came clean only after testing broke her story wide open!

I find it curious that you make NO mention of the biggest offender of all - East Germany. It is now well documented that ALL East German athletes in ALL sports were drugged and that this went on for nearly 2 decades without there being ever being, I believe, more than 1 or 2 who were caught. This is out of many thousands! Many later on in life are now suffering from the abuse they were subject to early on in life by the scruples-less East German machine.
