The soprano saxophonist with a singing heart in the interlude and at the end part, he is Hidefumi Toki (土岐英史), who is well known to those who know him in Japan (For you, he sounds like David Sanborn?, haha). Unfortunately, he passed away in 2021. His daughter is a pop singer in Japan, Asako Toki (土岐麻子). The drummer is Jun Aoyama (青山純). He also passed away in 2013 unfortunately. His son is also a drummer, Hideki Aoyama (青山英樹), who is now active worldwide from The Eastern Kami Band, supporting the shows of BABYMETAL. You know, right? 😀 The bassist is Jun Aoyama's longtime partner of music, Koki Ito (伊藤広規), I think. Although not shown in that live video clip, the keyboardist is Hiroyuki Nanba (難波弘之). He is a well-known musician in the pop-rock scene of Japan. The guiarist is Yoshiyuki Sahashi (佐橋佳幸), also famous musician in the pop-rock scene of Japan. The another guitarist with the chorus at the end part, he is Tatsuro Yamashita (山下達郎). He is a husband of Mariya. He has been so popular singer and song writer since 70s in Japan. As for Toki, Aoyama, (and Ito), they were all early members of my favorite fusion bands in Japan, such as 'Naoya Matsuoka & Wesing' and 'PRISM' in late 70s-80s. But I believe that Tatsuro pulled them all out to his band. Damn it, no wonder the band is so great, hahaha. Thank you from Japan!

I was one of the people who got caught in the "Plastic Love algorhythm" on KZbin. It lead me down a rabbit hole of Japanese 80's music. I found out Mariya Takeuchi is married to Tatsuro Yamashita, another amazing singer and composer. I found people like Anri and Junko Yagami. I even stumbled across idols like Wink and Babe. Then I found some sad stories like Miki Matsubari and Reiko Nakahara. But overall I'm glad I got to hear their music. I did read in an interview with Takeuchi she was flattered that a new generation of people around the world discovered and found an appreciation for her music.

This song was a moderate hit when it was released. For years it was unavailable on streaming platforms. Then around 2017 someone uploaded it to KZbin and it went viral, getting tens of millions of views. Davie504 covered it in 2021. Eventually it got a copyright strike and was taken down. An official video was posted which now has 43 million views.

Cool old Fusion/pop classic! Not sure where the David Sanborn sax reference came from, unless it is a "in the style of..." reference, but since you are not familiar, you might consider checking out some of his vast collection. He was truly an American musical treasure and a fabulous sax player! We just lost him (this past May, I believe).

David Sanborn is my favorite saxophonist. I am very sorry to learn of his passing. His live performances with Marcus Miller as bassist are legendary. By the way, I am number 5 in the fan club of Mariya Takeuchi from her early days. LOL!
