The Apex 10 set up correctly is an amazing press. I have loaded (hand operated, no auto drive) my press at 800 rounds per hour, 124 grain Berrys CPRN 9MM, 4.3 grains Accurate #2 powder, COAL of 1.16”. My standard deviation after 200 rounds across a Caldwell G2 chronograph is 8.6, at 1078 fps from a FN 509 MRD with a factory 4.00” barrel. I’m using Lyman Pro Series Stainless Steel dies with a hold down die over the primer station. I also should mention that at this speed, and watching the indexing pins pass through the shell plate (no forwards or backwards indexing) I’ve had absolutely ZERO priming issues.

The problem with the priming system is in its design, not (necessarily) the setup. The rotational action of the disc and the extra space inside the “gap”where the primer sits as it spins means that the primer will not be in the same spot every time. It doesn’t matter if the case is in the same spot if the primer isn’t. I have tried hold-down dies, sizing dies, and swage foot dies (with the latter working the best), and none of them work. What happens is that the primer will be ever so slightly off, and one of a few things will happen: 1) it will actually cause the primer cup to “shave” the inside of the primer pocket which ends up clogging up the mechanism after awhile, 2) the primer will actually be crushed causing the whole system to lock up, 3) you’ll get a partially seated primer (which again causes problems. I’ve spent more hours trying to get this to work than I have ever working on any other single piece of equipment in my life (and I woodwork as another hobby). The system simply isn’t designed properly.

9 seems to be easy and more reliable. Love to see this at speed with 6.5

Hey Gavin: Setting up new Apex 10 for MANUAL operation, and wanting to confirm that when setting up the sizer die over the primer station, it's recommended to set the die at the same "touch the shell plate then back off 1/4 turn" for non-automated? Thanks and please keep up the great Apex 10/Mark 7 videos! 👍

Who makes the sizing die without the decapper? Or do you just use it without the decapping pin?

Gavin, do you prefer the Apex 10 over the RL1100?

Speaking of primers... One of the guys that I know was saying that there is currently no US primer production. Is this true, Gavin, anyone else know?

When loading rifle, if one uses a normal full length sizing die over priming station and you lower the die so it is touching the plate, you are going to bump the shoulder....and I don't want to do that. It's not clear from the recommendation how critical the sizing die "centering" is. He also says you can use a hold down die which would not center the cartridge at all. Confusing directions. Can you please clarify? Secondly, are you going to cover the super sensitive shuttle priming system setup? There was a design issue on earlier models and Mark VII sent me a new shuttle disk. Would be good to share.

no carbide sizing die and non-lubticated cases. That's a great deal!

The priming system SUCKS!! Primers get stuck in between the index plate and the machine frame and then there is the occasional one stuck between the shell plate and the frame and you have to disassemble the entire machine! A lot of down time and primer waste! Bad investment! Really takes the fun out of Reloading! The Primer Express finally went into the Trash! Ver aggravating product and the parts issue stinks as well! Takes weeks to get a repair part as simple as a screw, which you will wear out from removing the plastic plate above the primer index plate from removing it Avery 100 rounds to remove a stuck primer!
