CESSATIONIST: "When God remained silent for 450 years (from Joshua to Samuel) was God limited or less God?" " CHRISTIAN: How So, God Became... in silence from Joshua to Samuel? (Judges 1.1-2: 1 And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Which of us shall go up first into the Canaanites, to fight against them? 2And the LORD said, Judah shall go up; behold, I have given him the land into his hand; John 2.1,3; 6.8-10, 16, 23; etc. ) I may not know the length of years between Joshua and Samuel, but I do know that "after Joshua died" and before Samuel God spoke several times. Where did you get this statement that God remained silent for 450 years between Joshua and Samuel?

According to the perspective of some cessationists, miraculous gifts ceased immediately at the end of the apostolic era, that is, shortly after the death of the apostle John. These same cessationists often point out that the miraculous gifts were gradually ceasing out. In Acts 19.11, around 53-55 AD, we read about Paul performing extraordinary wonders. Later, in Acts 28.8, approximately between 60-62 AD, we see that he healed Publius' father of dysentery through prayer and the laying on of hands. Subsequently, Paul no longer had the ability to perform miracles to heal diseases, such as those of Epaphrodite (Philippians 2.25-27, around 60-62 AD), Timothy (1 Timothy 5.23, around 62-66 AD), and Trophimus (2 Timothy 4.20, around 67-68 AD). Hebrews 2.3-4 is then used to argue that the writer made clear that signs, wonders, and gifts of the Spirit were things of the past. The absence of references of the continuity of these events at the time of writing this passage demonstrates, from this perspective, that these miraculous gifts had already ceased. 3. Since, according to these cessationists themselves, the miraculous gifts ceased immediately after the death of the Apostle John, this means that the Apostle John was already dead when Hebrews 2.3-4 was written. Not only this, but the Revelation of John should have been written before Hebrews 2.3-4. Meanwhile, these same cessionists insist that Apocalypse is the last book in the Canon of Scriptures. And nothing can be added after him. But if these cessionists are true, then what is the epistle to the Hebrews doing within the canon of scriptures. These same cessationists also say that a book to be recognized as canonical must have been written by an apostle. However, since, according to these cessationists, the apostle John would have already died and the apostle with him, then the writer to the Hebrews could not have been Paul. It has never been so easy to exclude Paul from the debate about the authorship of Aos Hebrews. Can you realize that cessationist theology is a doctrine of demons that systematically subverts the Christian faith? It's too easy to reduce cessationism to absurd. That's because Cessationism is a systematic absurdity. They think they can avoid this nonsense by redefining the terms. The problem is that they don't realize that the cessationist absurd resides in their epistemological and metaphysical axioms and not in secondary propositions. The only way cessationism stops being heretic is to become factual epistemology and metaphysics differently biblical.
@pattipakanaresh94589 ай бұрын
According to some cessationists, (1) miraculous gifts are not of the Spirit (Hb 2.4) but OF THE APOSTLES. (2)They are not given by the Spirit for the edification of the church (1Co 12.7), but only by the laying on of the apostles' hands. (3)Not for the main purpose of building up the church, but for the main purpose to authenticate the apostles themselves. I CORINTHIANS 12:7-11 ACCORDING TO THIS CESSATIONISM VERSION: 7But the manifestation of the Apostles is given to every one, for what it is useful. 8For to one is given the word of wisdom through the apostles; and to another through the same apostles the word of science; 9and to another through the Apostles faith; and to another by the Apostles the gifts of healing; 10and to another the working of wonders; and to another prophecy; and to one the gift of discerning spirits; to another the variety of languages; and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11But one and THE SAME APOSTLES operate all these things, distributing individually to each one as he pleases. On the other hand, since miraculous gifts are the exclusive property of the Holy Spirit and not the Apostles, the only way for cessationism to succeed is to postpone the death of the Spirit. This reminds me of that murdering spirit that killed the Son. However you try, you can't kill the Spirit.

At that time I was enslaved to every carnal sin that came my way but because I got emotional at church and was in leadership in "Worship", I assumed I was OK. Fast forward to 9 years ago and God called me, a lost sheep, to follow him! Praise God I can tell you the true work of the Holy Spirit has been so much more potent, miraculous and powerful than anything I ever experienced in the NAR/ hyper charismatic movement. So you don't think the HS manifests these gifts mentioned above. That is sad since there is ZERO biblical evidence that these gifts have ceased. Especially utterance of wisdom and knowledge. @@williamelliott nope. I personally dislike him. However this is a discussion about gifts of the spirit. Which is a SECONDARY issue. It’s not a gospel issue. Let’s see what God has to say about secondary issues. We don’t even have to guess. His word explains it quite nicely. Roman’s 14. As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3 Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. 4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master[a] that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess[b] to God.” 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. So let’s learn to have grace, as Jesus gives US grace. Surely you’re not foolish enough to believe that you, a sinful wretch have perfect theology on all secondary and tertiary issues. I know I certainly would never claim that. I’m a sinner and a wretch just like you. So I choose to have grace on non gospel issues, as commanded by God. How are you different and special that your theology and interpretation of scripture is flawless?

Thank you for presenting this. I found it helpful. His videos are all over the internet. As someone who experienced abuse as a child, what he supposedly sees and does would be terribly harmful to an abused person. Confronting someone about their abuse without much preparation is unheard of in counseling and dangerous. The way he claims to counsel people is actually harsh and abusive. It takes decades and a lot of work and prayer to deal with the trauma. Casually tossing off questions to the abused person would be humiliating, frightening and sham3ful. People who have been abused take on the guilt and shame of the perpetrator. As far as his marital counseling, tossing out the accusation of infidelity during a joint session would cause terrible harm. I pray that he is lying about how he approaches people because if he is telling the truth he is causing terrible damage to people. Beyond his obvious false claims of visions, he is harming those he claims to help.

Even if what he was saying was true, the way he handled these, in front of the spouse and throwing out sexual abuse like that could be very damaging to those people. It shows how completely unqualified he is. Plus it could cause someone very naive to believe something happened that did not. He is dangerous!
@thecatalysm56589 ай бұрын
Yep, either way, the fact that he is saying this in public is messed up. But it's all justifiable for Driscoll because it's proof of how spiritual he is.
@phoenixrising81899 ай бұрын
I am not defending anyone's bad behaviour, but Mark Driscoll at least is attempting to walk in the Spirit. Any who do so will be cut down by the religious, self-righteous spirits who don't even open themselves to this realm themselves.
@thecatalysm56589 ай бұрын
@phoenixrising8189 A)What he is doing by sharing private situations is HIGHLY irresponsible and inappropriate. B) If he gets anything wrong in his vision he just planted that idea in someone's head and all the dominoes that fall because of that could ruin relationships and families permanently. C) Anyone else who thinks they are having visions from God is now encouraged to do the same thing, consequences be damned. Nope, I wouldn't be defending that.

@robinleigh28329 ай бұрын
His behavior at Mars Hill disqualified him from ever being in the pulpit again, or in any position of a church...for life. True repentance would have humbled him and he wouldn't dream of the responsibility (ACCOUNTABILITY) of being a pastor going forward. Driscoll clearly doesn't believe that pastors have a much higher level of accountability to the Lord, and unless the Lord changes his heart, he is going to be one of those Jesus tells, "Get away from me, I never knew you." Very sad. I live not far from where he is preaching in the Phoenix area and know people who attend his church. I try to warn them but they find him dynamic and "filled with the Spirit." They have zero discernment.

You should rip out from your bible every Psalm King David wrote in the Old Testament and every book in the New Testament where his Psalms are quoted starting with the gospels. We had a man in our former church who had murdered someone when he was a teen and strung out on drugs. The murder was never solved. Until this man came to Christ as an adult and by the conviction of the Holy Spirit, confessed to it. He went to our Pastor first and told him, and our Pastor told him what he knew he needed to do to make this right. He did, and he did go to prison. He served his time already and he has been out a while now. His son was a teenager at the time of his confession, but our church stepped in and helped with what was needed for his son. There was none of this “vision” garbage. Just a man accepting his consequences for his own sin from many years ago. 😊

Driscoll sounds more like a medium or a spiritist than a pastor. Having visions like that are what the mediums do, because they have a familiar spirit.
