Everybody,
listen to me,
and return me, my ship.
I'm your captain, I'm your captain,
though I'm feeling mighty sick.
I've been lost now,
days uncounted,
and it's months since,
I've seen home.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
or am I all alone?
If you return me,
to my home port,
I will kiss you,
mother earth.
Take me back now, take me back now,
to the port, of my birth.
Am I in my cabin dreaming,
or are you really scheming,
to take my ship away from me.
You'd better think about it,
I jsut can't live without it,
so please don't take my ship from me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I can feel the hand,
of a stranger,
and it tightening,
around my throat.
Heaven help me, heaven help me,
take this stranger, from my boat.
I'm your captain, I'm your captain,
though I'm feeling mighty sick.
Everybody, listen to me,
and return me, my ship,
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm getting closer to my home.
I'm getting closer to my home.

There can be no GFR without Mark Farner. He was the man who composed 90% of their hits!!

As an artist and creator that saw all levels of the playing field, Mark Farner's musical diversity is a matter of public record. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home" as one of the top ten classic songs of all time. Way to go Mark!!!

Dude, I'm in a state-of-gladness and enthusiasm to see Mark Farner still making people happy and living his dream virtually still to this day. "The past does not equal the future" and I give the above perfomance a very favorable review because it still ROCKS and makes an impact. Plus, the modern-sound-PA from this concert kicks ass on my computer audio system! Perception equals Reality and KZbin enables tapping into joy. Peace!

Just saw him sat. nite (june 11th). Just AWESOME!! He came out and signed autographs afterward. Took pics w fans. Signed my shirt, and the red album, and the 1st live album. I actually remember the show, unlike the time in 71. Highly recommend for any funk fans. He played aimless lady. Never seen that.

You're invited to see We're an American band cover by The Psychedelic Jukebox on this site. Our Tribute to GFR. This band is tight, and Mark's skills are well-honed. That drummer is jammin'like a big dog, and that vocal jam on the end is just great. Mark and the boys certainly deserve a place in the hall.

Grew up on Grand Funk Railroad, how Brewer and the other stooge can claim Grand Funk Railroad without the lead singer and guitar is beyond me. I saw Three Dog Night once without Chuck and it was sad. No Mark, no Grand Funk Railroad....simple.

Sure he was apart of the band, but one must remember, a band is more than one or id soloist, two duet, three trio. Ok Mark you were apart of the band, the name he should tour and perform as Mark Farner (formerly of G F R). Like John Fogerty was sued for sounding like C C R and more. I managed local bands they fight like kids bragging about their life and teens have major attitudes.

GFRxR have 33 gold & platinum ALBUMS earned & many gold & platinum singles. They also still hold many ticket sales records. NOT being recognized by The R&R HOF is a bitch-slap to every fan who bought one of those albums or concert tickets. Sign the petition in this video's description.

Dang this song gives me the chills, it was written as a subtle, but very real protest, to the Vietnam War. Speaking of the USS Pueblo incident though, it was recently in the news as it is the 40'th anniversary of it's capture by N. Korea, in Jan. 1968, and the ship remains in that country to this day.

Does anyone know why Mark switched to a Parker Fly guitar after all these years? Saw GFRR twice in the 70s. Always felt they were America's most under-rated Band. Farner an under-rated songwriter. They should be in the R&R Hall of Fame.
