It's been 10 years, I keep on coming to this video and still thinking this is probably the best drum solo I've heard in my life. Giuliana is an absolute beast.

He lives inside quantization more. Purdie lives in groove.. not that I prefer one or the other.. just Mark is NOT groove, he's more the Bach of push pull

I get bored of drummers who only have technique. Mark is truly an inspiration to me because he really has originality, energy, groove and can make a small kit go a long way. Was a real pleasure to meet him some years ago and especially to find he's a nice guy and doesn't let his amazing talent go to his head. He is by far my favorite drummer.

Agree 100%. He's also incredibly versatile. He crushes grooves like this, and can turn around and nail jazz to the wall. His work on Gently Disturbed with Avishai Cohen is my favorite from him.

It feels inspired by Go Ahead John with Jack DeJohnette's drumming and Teo Macero's studio wizardry on Miles Davis' Big Fun album-a pretty unpopular album during the cocaine-fueled Disco era of the 1970s, but pretty bad-ass 50 years later.
