How has this guy played Luke Skywalker, one of the most iconic hero's of all time and yet can play the Joker (arguably one of the most iconic villains) and do it so amazingly well?!
@MidnightDStroyer
@MidnightDStroyer Жыл бұрын
There aren't many actors that can feasibly & believably pull off roles for both iconic heroism & depraved villainy but Mark does it well. One of the few others was George Burns, in one movie played the part of God & in another (the sequel) played both God & the Devil. In an interview George was asked how he felt about playing the duel role. His reply was something to the effect that he's hit the highest role & the lowest role & really had no other place to go or any further expectations for his career. 😉 In Mark's case, he's played an instrumental focal point for saving the galaxy from tyranny & also played part as one of the most twisted & depraved villains in comic book history. Sure, he has a ways to go to equal what George Burns played, but George has been in the entertainment business since the days of traveling vaudeville shows & successfully navigated the transitions to radio, then TV...Very few of those performers could adapt through it all. Mark still has some time left to him, ya' know. 😁

@@joefaller9664 No, I'm saying that's what he did during the 90s when the show was being aired. He said so himself in interviews that he would be driving, practicing his Joker laugh. So people driving near him would look in and see him laughing hysterically before getting a serious look on his face, then doing it again.

"Memories can be vile. Repulsive little brutes, like children I suppose. But can we live without them? Memories are what our reason is based upon. If we can't face them, we deny reason itself! Although, why not? We aren't contractually tied down to rationality. There is no sanity clause. So when you find yourself locked down in an unpleasant train of thought, heading for the places in your past where the screaming is unbearable, remember: There's always madness. You can just step outside and close the door, and all those dreadful things that happened, you can lock them away. Madness... is an emergency exit."

VERY TRUE, but I must say that Ledger's rendition of the Joker was the most compelling for me. His version was like looking into the very soul of madness and evil. Despite that he's been doing it for years, not even Mark Hamill's downright iconic voice gives me the same chills as when I heard Ledger go from "Look at me" to "LOOK AT ME!!!!" and back again. It was incredible.
@theCTCamp
@theCTCamp 4 жыл бұрын
I think it's more the type of Joker. Hamill's is definitely closer to the comic Joker, but if they were to write a Joker in the comics that acted like Ledger's, I'd probably read it in Ledger's voice, but it would be a much different Joker than what they currently have in the comics. Like, Hamill's (and the current comic Joker) is more psychotic, you can easily say he's losing touch with reality (the clown/carnival motifs everywhere, which are much more pronounced than Ledger's simple use of the makeup). Whereas Ledger's is more psychopathic, he's still operating with a "normal" concept of reality, he just doesn't care about anything or anyone. However, Batman with always be read in Kevin Conroy's voice.
@TheMagicRat
@TheMagicRat 4 жыл бұрын
@@theCTCamp There was a 2008 Brian Azzarello graphic novel called simply "Joker", which had a Joker closer to the Dark Knight version. I don't remember too much about it, but I did love another one he did around the same time called "Lex Luthor: Man of Steel", which framed his dynamic with Superman in an interesting way. Superman hovering outside Lex's office window with glowing red eyes was downright creepy!

Heath Ledger’s performance was actually a portrayal of the DC character the Anarchist not of the Batman archenemy the Joker. Hence the disconnect.
@Draagreon
@Draagreon 5 жыл бұрын
@@hazelgoodshepherd9315 ... you're missing the point. He is comparing 'physical' acts between Ledger and Hamill - Hamill only did voice acting for the Joker, so you can't compare Ledger and Hamill 😅 Well, you can on the voice part, but that's it.
@Draagreon
@Draagreon 5 жыл бұрын
@Krystal Giove Ledger didn't create the Joker, he borrowed from all past Jokers (Romero, Nicholson, Hamill, etc.) and made something "new". His was not more difficult, just different. He played the anarchist version of the Joker, which fitted the more "If Batman really existed in our world" depiction. No one did a more difficult job, just different. Like comparing apples to oranges. This whole putting Ledger on a pedestal is fine and all, he was great, and so will Phoenix be, but having tunnel vision only gets you that far 😊

You cannot deny that this man, is by far one of the greatest to ever portray this character. He may not have physically took part in live action films, but the way he brings the Joker to life from the comic book or cartoon, is just unbelievable. I must say that he is 1 of the reasons why I love this character, how he managed to make the character funny, the dialect and how he struck fear in you.

Most voice actors you can tell who they voiced just by their normal speaking voice. But Hamill really has a unique spin on the joker voice that you just can believe its him until you see him do the voice in person. And even then you just have to watch it over and over again because its just that good. And the laugh man, wow.

Mark Hamill brings such a sense of wonder and love to to his performances. And that's why he's such a great Joker and so different from so many others - Mark Hamill plays a Joker who loves himself, who thinks he is awesome, and that being evil is awesome. A lot of Jokers have this deep self-loathing to justify the bad things they do that operates from a deep interiority, where the Joker face is a mask over a pained self - Hamill's Joker is more Shakespearean, where he has his appetites, his plans, his disdains, and he struts across the stage of the world reveling in them, and his mask is more of a shamanic conjuring of a spirit than a psychological defense mechanism.

When I first heard the Batman movie was being made, before they had even announced a cast, the first thought that went through my head was, "Jack Nicholson. They need Jack Nicholson to be the Joker." I was both shocked and disappointed when the cast was announced. Nicholson would indeed be the Joker, but .... Michael Keaton as Batman? MR. MOM as the Dark Knight? ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME?! Turned out Mr. Keaton did a fairly good job, though.

fun fact: [recently I set a mission for myself to rewatch all of my favourite childhood animations/cartoons in their full form from beginning to the end, right now I am on Spider-Man The Animated Series 1994 and I just realized] Mark Hamil was the voice of hobgoblin in that too! I recognised him by his voice, it was a lot younger but I know that evil Joker-like voice wherever I hear it! P.S: fantastic series, give it a watch if you haven't saw it already
