This is why the Joker is such a great villain for Batman. He’s exactly the opposite of Batman. Batman is dark and brooding, while Joker is joyful and happy. And while Batman wants to stop crime, Joker wants to have fun by committing it. Thats why he can relate to Batman so well. He’s exactly the opposite, but also has a personality with Batman and wants him to try and catch him. That’s how he has fun committing crimes. Challenging Batman to try and stop him.

You can thank Mark's Broadway career for the Joker's laughs. Mark played Mozart in "Amadeus," and Wolfgang was well known for being coarse, and having a laugh that sounded like a "braying donkey." To keep it fresh during the run, Mark would add in impressions of other actors'/characters' laughs. He did LOTS of them, and used them when he auditioned for Joker. That's what he draws on now. Mark always wanted to be a character actor, and with VA he got his wish. He is a true "working actor." GIfted, professional, funny, courteous to coworkers, and a find for any production. I would say one of the things that makes the best versions of the Joker such a enjoyable villain is that despite how psychotic and crazy his actions are he is always having a blast doing his villain thing. There's one point where he imitates Ceasar Romero's laugh, and other moments where he does little nods to other Jokers. But Heath Ledger also did the psychotic mastermind as the primary performance, which is why his performance was so well received. Heath Ledger's Joker was the scary, method to his madness, almost unstoppable force of nature Joker. Mark Hamill's is the mad killer clown you love to hate, but can't help wanting to see again.

Good old superhero buddy cop show with amazing scenes and lots of action. I also really liked Avatar: TLA. Batman: The Animated Series is easily the best TV show ever made. I feel that nothing will ever get close to how perfect the show was. A huge part of that was Mark Hamill's amazing performance as the Joker. You can't have Batman without his Joker. Likewise The Dark Knight movie would have only been half as good if they hadn't picked a great actor to be the Joker.

Let us also remember Kevin Conroy as Batman, who defined the character so much from 1992 on that to this day, he is the voice actor of choice for the role with fans. One need only remember his recent jobs of this on the Arkham games to see the truth of that statement. Hamill himself, in the intro to a Joker book, paid tribute to his long-time "straight man".

Jesus Christ Heath Ledger was doing the very violent and realistic comic book version that we never saw in the animated content. Mark Hamill did an excellent cartoon version of the Joker and even showed much of his psychology, but it simply wasn't realistic. That was perfectly fine for animation, but the movie needed a touch of realism that Heath Ledger delivered. This is coming from a long time fan of the animated content and Mark Hamill.

Darth Cinema Technically Darth Bane wasn't even canon before his appearance in Clone Wars. And Mark Hamill was nominated for an emmy just from that one brief performance so it definitely wasn't a poor portrayal of the character. Not to mention in that scene Darth Bane was dead and it was just a manifestation of his Force energy, so it kind of makes sense that it doesn't exactly resemble him. It's a stretch though.

As a little kid growing up watching the Animated show. Never in a million years I would have guessed that Mark Hamill played the voice of The Joker. In 2004-2005 when the show came out on DVD I was excited to get them all. I watched the show from start to finish, and watched the behind the scenes, the making of the show, interviews of the creators, producers, directors, and animators of the show, and it was cool to see what the voice actors looked like off screen because their was no internet or google to see who the voice actors looked like off screen in the late 90's, until they talked about who was the voice of The Joker it blew my mind away that Luke Skywalker was The Joker. I'm like What! Luke Skywalker and The Joker are the same person. As a joke it turns out Luke Skywalker did go to the dark side after all. LOL.
@InfamousKalen11 жыл бұрын
I want to say I feel dumb for not ever having known Luke Skywalker was the voice of the Joker. But then again his Joker voice sounds nothing like him so it's k. But damn, the things you find out when you do some research.
@Azatarot7511 жыл бұрын
It's okay...given that Hamill has been doing what he can to shed the Luke Skywalker role for well over a decade before Joker rolled around, I daresay that was the idea. He had to disappear into voice acting to keep working. In fact, he popped up on the old Lucasarts game "Full Throttle" in three different roles and I know that he had a villainous part in the English dub for "Castle In the Sky" (which sounded nothing like the Joker).
@InfamousKalen11 жыл бұрын
Azatarot75 It's crazy how actors have it in the industry. If you do a consistent amount of movies that don't have sequals or part 2's, 3's and 4's, you most of the time get referred to by your actual name. Or the name of a particular movie you stuck out in the most, until you have another movie that sticks out better, or a bunch that are really well. But if you stick to one franchise, if you play in a part in a several movie showcase then you often only get remembered and looked at as the character you role played for that series of films. Although honestly, with enough work you can at least push to be known as something or someone else in other movies if you really try. Harrison Ford today is known as Harrison Ford. Rather than originally known as Han Solo, and then as Indiana Jones. Because he broke free from Han Solo with the Indiana Jones movies. And then he broke free of those movies later with several blockbuster hit movies. Even today while he has revived Indiana Jones and might possibly star in the newer Star Wars movies, he's known as Harrison Ford. Johnny Depp was known for several different character roles over the years. But unusually he's still known to many people for all kinds of roles he's played. But still he's been able to break into so many characters that people know enough to call him Johnny Depp when referring to him, rather than Captain Jack Sparrow or Edward Scissor Hands. If Mark Hamill put the effort in, he could of broken away too from Luke Skywalker's image without having to drown away into voice acting. Han Solo was often a much more noticeable character in the original Star Wars than Luke. Even though Luke was supposed to be the main character of them all. And Han Solo went off to become different characters in different movies until he broke from being known as just Han Solo. To be honest, Mark had the kind of face of a popular teen chics probably wanted to be with. He easily could of played out in several teen angst movies throughout the 70s and 80s and made a name for himself in other movies. He had that tan skin, straight blonde hair and that kind of face to easily hit hard in dozens of the classic 70s and 80s teen angst films that did come out. Albeit, he had no look to be a villain in a fictional movie. But that wouldn't mean he couldn't play in any of the countless amounts of fictional movies that came out over the years. If he had bulked up he could of actually been a much better He-Man in the old movies than Lundgren was. Not to say Lundgren did bad but young Mark Hamill actually could of had the exact comic look nailed down if he grew the strength. And hardcore actors really do make that kind of effort to fit into roles for things they like. For example, Will Smith gained pounds of weight and muscle for his role in Ali (2001). And he gained more for iRobot and I Am Legend. Tom Cruise did the same for several movies. Brad Pitt did too. And tons of actors have re-sculpted their bodies to play parts. Heck look at the most recent body transformations. Like Taylor Lautner bulking up for Twilight. And furthermore a much different transformation, Matthew McConnaughey actually lost both muscle and fat to look the part of a cancer diagnosed person in The Dallas Buyers Club. If Mark Hamill really wanted to, he could of broke away from the light of Luke Skywalker. He had the look, the talent and the skill. Maybe he just wasn't sure he could though. It happens. __________ Excuse the lengthy post btw. I like to write lol.
@Azatarot7511 жыл бұрын
Infamous Kalen No worries on the amount of writing...I do plenty myself, LOL. From what I understand, Hamill had been attempting to do just what you were prescribing back in the day but, for some reason, it just never took. It wasn't until he got into voice acting that he finally found the freedom he'd been looking for all along. None of which is to say that he neglected his actual acting. He did do some onscreen stuff in the 1990s in the Wing Commander franchise of video games (this was during the "interactive movie" craze where you could occasionally find decent actors doing such work; that's actually how I first discovered Clive Owen in "Privateer 2: The Darkening") and one of the episodes in the Outer Limits revival, among other things. But let's face it: when he went onto define Joker, it was the same kind of gold strike that Luke Skywalker had been, albeit one that let him have more flexibility. Lightning like that rarely strikes twice in a career, so I am grateful that Hamill (who, by most accounts I've heard, is probably one of the most likeable, nicest guys in this business and when one of those accounts are the notoriously prickly Harlan Ellison, I tend to take those stories seriously) managed to get the renaissance in his career that he did.
@InfamousKalen11 жыл бұрын
Azatarot75 I gotta agree with you there. Being able to strike the way he did in 2 different things is a feat of its own. It would be like if Daniel Radcliffe, the guy who played Harry Potter in all 8 films, wound up starring in something else and being remembered just as heavily for that as they were for Harry Potter. Would be a feat of its own. Mark Hamill has always given off that appeal that he's a really nice person. Which makes it just that much more crazy that he truly is the voice of the Joker. And not just the voice of the Joker, but practically the best and most notorious voice over of the Joker that there ever has been. I honestly can't picture anyone else playing that voice. I have to wonder though. There is talk about Harrison Ford coming back for the next Star Wars movies which are supposed to take place after the original first 3 in the 70s/80s. I wonder if Mark Hamill will reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in those movies too. Would be cool.
@Azatarot7511 жыл бұрын
Infamous Kalen The Radcliffe comparison is apt. Kristen Stewart is also someone else who comes to mind who has fallen into much the same trap that Hamill did with Star Wars. As to Hamill as the Joker, let's be straight: much as I love Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight" and appreciate how Jack Nicholson helped pave the way in the original "Batman" (let us remember that Batman TAS was originally intended to be just another quick cash-in spin-off from that movie before doing its own thing), Hamill owns the role. My favorite performance of him as Joker has to be in the Justice League Unlimited episode "Injustice For All", where he's trying to convince Lex Luthor to finish off Batman but Lex refuses to listen. Check the clips on that here some time...it's great stuff! The Star Wars thing...ehh. It would only be cool if done right. Only time will tell if they do indeed do it right. If that's the case, then, yes, having Hamill onboard would certainly help.
