I'm the same way. Went through abuse and neglect as a young Samoan kid. I'm grown now but I'm a quiet person because of the trauma. I have a 4 year and I'm so blessed to say he's nothing like me. He's so outgoing and fearless. Safe to say he'll never go through nothing I did.

💯 I’m not sure mark would have been so open if it was with anyone else (like another Polynesian podcaster or interviewer because of this concept of “Ma” (shame) that Mark touched on earlier as these topics are seen as taboo in Poly culture. There seems to be a lot of trust between Mark and MB 👏🏽👏🏽 watched it twice !!

Wow, I could listen to Hunt all day. I have read his book. Watched the doco on Prime. What’s amazing is how he’s learnt and made positive changes. How many kids out there are going to be in the same situation. I hope they see this and are able to add the rudder to give them direction. Legend Mark. I can’t wait to see what is next in your journey.

I read 60 pages of Mark Hunts book. He basically fought almost every day on the streets. At some point he even had to eat bat meat because they just had no money at all. He truly doesn't give a shit. It doesn't scare him. READ THE BOOK, because it's way too much details to explain in a comment or a video. You will NOT regret it!

Jesus.. I had no idea.. to grow up in that life, and STILL become a good person, that's incredible. I can understand being a driven person, especially one who goes into a profession of violence, but still be a genuinely good person who is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others he will never even meet. Ugh. I'm not crying, you're crying!

I just got done listening to the first part and what his childhood was like, and I can’t help but think of how every time Mark would fight, he would never dish out unnecessary damage when he would fight. The unbelievable restraint he would show is so counter intuitive to how you think he would be in the cage. You can tell at his core that he’s a caring, gentle person that just got dealt a really shitty hand in life and was blessed with the ability to fight. You can tell fighting was just a job to him, he wasn’t using it to take out his rage on anyone or looking to hurt anyone beyond what was necessary to get money to feed his family.

Best podcast yet Mark, purely because you let the guest speak. You offered some great short summaries and paraphrasing which gave Mark the opportunity to elaborate in more detail and providing more insight. No disrespect but we are here for the guest, your job is to provide a platform for the guest to open up and feel comfortable to talk. Not sure if it was because Mark holds court well or not but this was your best one yet. Keep up the good work. Mark you are more of a warrior out of the ring than in it. Your strength and resilience to manage your past and talk openly about your experiences is the biggest win of your career. Your vulnerability and honesty will help so many with similar experiences and upbringings to see that healing from trauma although complex and extremely hard is possible. Your an absolute legend of the fight game but even more of a legend as a human. Keep kicking goals mate your an inspiration
