Thanks to all MK's fans all around the world for sharing the same passion online for this top singer, songwriter and guitar player. More than 40 years of great music and lyrics. I was under the spell at the gig in St Julien en Genevois, in France - - > "Still can't say good bye" to MK and Band.

My first Mark Knopfler concert. I have been a fan since Dire Straits, 1978. That album was the first thing I bought with my own earnings.

Saw Mark and this AMAZING band in Boston and Nashville on this tour. He has never disappointed since I first saw him (Dire Straits) on the Making Movies tour in Hartford, CT in 1980 (maybe ‘81). Was lucky enough to be staying at the same hotel in Nashville and saw him quite a bit there. Wasn’t an overtly friendly chap - but the rest of the band was easy to talk to. Hope this wasn’t his last tour - they must be grueling. Will buy and listen to his music forever and they’ll be playing Piper when my time comes.

maybe he is an introvert, ironic how many big musicians actually are, and off stage prefer to stay to themselves

#1of 3) I first saw Dire Straits on MTV in the mid 1980’s and was blown away by their “Money for Nothin’”, and the cartoon video of the delivery guys watching the TVs in the appliance store, remarking how the musicians make all the money (& the girls), for doing no work whatsoever! So, about a decade later, I saw them in concert at the Philly Spectrum, which was totally satisfying on probably their last tour… My evaluation of Nopfler’s singing voice was a “rich man’s Bob Dylan!”, whom I and a few Rutgers U AXP frat bros. walked out on perhaps Greenwich Village’s famed Bitter End club in winter of ‘63, having just paid the entrance cover charge, and listening to one song, remarking “This guy can’t sing!” - a decision I’m sure we all have regretted for decades!

Well, apart from the saxophonist & trumpet player who look in their early 40's....and don't think that either John McCusker or Michael McGoldrick would be very impressed about being mistaken as OAPs

#2 of 3) …Then, a few years later I paid the premium price for the inside seat to see Bob Dylan & Paul Simon do a show at the Camden DE Riverfront venue, currently called the BB&T Pavilion - it was a great show as each lead singer was in top notch voice, while each did a solo act, followed by a team finale. Dylan sounded as he does on his albums, and Simon always delivers! No, I didn’t walk out on Bob, not even to go to the men’s room!!

#3 of 3)…The next time I saw both Bob Dylan & Mark Knopfler perform was at a tandem concert at the new CoreStates / First Union / Wachovia / Wells Fargo Ctr. with my oldest son, Matthew. (We had attended the venue’s inaugural private-test dry-run event featuring The Soul Survivors opening for Ray Charles, during the late 90’s-early 2000’s.) I’m thinking Mark, who was awesome, opened for Bob, who didn’t even resemble his former classic persona, so quite a disappointment!!

We all know Mark Knopfler is a fantastic guitar player and superb songwriter, but let's be real--this isn't his finest moment, despite the loving fans and spirit of camaraderie. It's pretty ragged, and he seems to stumble over a few notes as if he's lost some dexterity. I've followed his solo career since "Golden Heart," with many great songs since he left Dire Straits to do things his own way. The last two or three albums in particular have been of decreasing inspiration and song quality, so that I can't see buying that inferior output from an artist who is capable of doing so much finer songs. When he goes out on the road, he tends to reprise the Dire Straits classics along with some of the newest songs while leaving out most of his best songs over the course of his solo career. I know he does this both for his pleasure and for the die-hard DS fans who can't live without another live version of "Money for Nothing" or other biggies. But it's long since worn thin, and too often his subtle, already frail voice is so shot he can't carry the tunes live. That's sad. Celebrate this, if you must, but don't claim this is worthy of MK's legacy. And judging from this video, it appears Mark has added more than a few pounds, so I sure hope he eats better and works on his health when he gets home. Believe me, I still love MK for all the great music he's created over the years.
@agross123455 жыл бұрын
The last version of MFN is much better than the classic MK/Sting/Clapton pompous show with a by far more sophisticated arrangement. This is true also for Once Upon a Time in the West and the other DS songs.
