I was there. Crossing paths with so many of the same characters living a parallel life. Layne included. Getting kick packs from a Dr. on Broadway, getting clean at Kings County detox multiple times just so I could lower my habit... Burning my connect who I ran for, a killer named spanky forcing me to escape to LA… I bought a 1972 Yamaha acoustic guitar from Capital Pawn that played like nothing before or since and then lost it to a pawn shop in dtla. That one still hurts….So grateful to have made it though 🙏🏽

Damn man assuming you’re telling the truth and giving you the benefit of the doubt, I’m sure you have some really interesting life stories, anecdotes, and experiences…I’m glad to hear you’re doing well now Damn man I feel you I lost all of my possessions to pawn shops and what not for dope and crack…including all three of my drum kits…an original 68 Ludwig like Ringo’s, in perfect condition too…Im a musician myself and I also got caught up using for many years in LA, OC, but mostly Austin…I definitely didn’t cross paths with anyone of note like you did but I certainly did live the life and struggled for a long, long time…I’m quite a bit younger than you from what it sounds though…I wish I was around that scene during that time period

@@Doyouevenart69 yeah it seems like a million miles from where my life is today… It really is like a scripted dream scene from a Hollywood movie no one ever saw. So grateful to have made it thru. Bummer about your kits. But honestly, our stuff is only stuff. There’s always more stuff out there with our name on it if we’re aligned with a healthy path. Hope you’re still walking a clean walk 🙏🏽 blessings.

I moved to seattle in 87 & while I never did H, I became immersed in the music scene. A decade ago I had to manually move my contacts into a new cell & as I started noticing how many friends were dead I started to count them & I reached 73. 90% from opioids And this was a decade ago before the fentanyl purge. It’s definitely over 100 now. It was a magical, magical time in the PNW but with everything in life, there’s always a price to pay & with all of the fun comes a whole lot of sorrow. @Blackkitty32 Assuming you're in Ireland, I have no knowledge of what recovery services are available. The first thing to do is make the firm decision that you want to live and to do whatever it takes to get off the gear. If there are methadone clinics, that would be a step to consider. I'm not a big fan of that stuff, but with fentanyl being in the picture, it would be a better choice. Get into counseling. Be ready to walk away from everyone in your life who is in the shit or a negative influence. Eat healthy food. Be patient and compassionate with yourself. None of it is quick or easy. One doesn't get a habit overnight, and the changes take time as well. You can do it.
@DonBurtonsays...
@DonBurtonsays... 9 ай бұрын
@@Blackkitty32 instead of methadone, I would consider trying Suboxone. I'm not sure if it's the same brand name in Ireland, but they probably have it where you live. It could possibly save your life. I can promise you that the struggle will only get worse. There is no such thing as "no hope." Anyone can get better. It will be the hardest thing you've ever done, but you WILL feel better eventually. Your life is worth saving. I hope you seek help soon, if you haven't already. Cannabis is also a lifesaver. It will at least help you eat and sleep during your first few weeks of abstinence from harder drugs. I sincerely hope you make it.

I had one chance to see him locally. It was not a Mark Lanegan show exactly, it was when he did a tour with Dulli and the Twilight Singers in 2006 and was doing 3 or 4 songs each show. It was Halloween weekend, maybe actually Halloween, but I chose to go to a weekend campout hippie festival instead (where it rained and I didn't have the best time and got sick after I came home). I stil regret it.

I remember Screaming Trees back in the early 90's while tuned to Vancouver's short lived Coast 1040 alt rock station with their hit song "I nearly Lost You". I was shocked and saddened at some of these old 80's and 90's bands I remembered and what became of some of the members who fell off the rails into heroin hell. a few of my friends from the 90's fell into that dreadful scene too. It really soured my enthusiasm for the whole Seattle alt-rock, grunge scene.

@@d4ddyK Yeah same. Just because you dislike somebody, or the media version of them you see on TV, doesn't mean they're guilty of everything they're accused of. Conversely, even people who have done bad things have done good things as well.

I still love Nearly Lost You, what a voice, such a cool song from my misspent youth. I, too, plunged to the depths of addiction. I, too, made it out and am living a good life again. But Mark's tales are all too familiar to me. The life of an addict is barely a life at all.

I’m 6’1.5 barefooted and I weigh 170 pounds. I’ve gained a little over 40 pounds since getting sober. For mark to call 165 pounds skeletal makes me feel like I was an actual skeleton at 130 pounds fully clothed in addiction 😂 but I’ve always been skinny. I only weighed around 145 when I graduated high school and that was weight lifting daily and going off to play college ball. I’m so sad I never got to see mark live. It’s my biggest regret ever.

Heavy stuff and sounds like a vibe straight from late 40s film noir flicks. The cop did him a huge solid BTW. He was in Horrendous shape and the Grim Reaper was shadowing him.

I was a big fan of sweet oblivion. Didn’t know much else of the screaming trees stuff. Had no idea Lannegan was such an addict. What strikes me with all of these excerpts from his book is how many chances he kept getting, and ignoring, and the fact that he was actually a pretty selfish arsehole. Yet people still kept doing him favours and helping him.

I know Marks suffering I had a really bad year 1998 started in 1995 had to do my time in 2003, but my addiction heroin and Coke never got that bad. For the most part I had a car half the time a place of my own mostly. The worst part that makes me have terrible using dreams I want to go back but I don't. Layne Staley and Mark keep me clean!
