I love the unspoken narration of the funkiness of this track by homeboy in the background ! XD lol At 0:58 , cousin puts his head down and is like " mmm hmm , mmm hmm , yeah ... I feel you , bruh ." And then at 1:12 he's holding his arms and struggling to stay composed like " damn ... this dude got me wanting to git my Michael Jackson on !!! "

I think this might be my favourite of your Baritone Funk jams--just loving the groove! I may not necessarily have words to describe it, but something about this just makes my day. Thanks so much for putting your music out there like this, Mark!

I bought the "Deep" CD (hard copy that hopefully Mark gets some money from instead of just downloading), but I find that I prefer these "demos". They're less dense and the groove stands out more. IMHO the album is over produced. Too many things vying for attention. Maybe in my younger fusion head years the density and complexity of that would appeal to me more. It may be because the album is self produced and the tendency is to keep adding on. One trick when mixing is referencing other cuts. There aren't any other baritone funk albums out there, but just comparing to a Prince record and how the extras are down in the mix and the theme predominates. Soulive less is more reference. Love your playing and spirit Mark. Even if you abandoned Northern CA for Texas, we still love you and hope you tour though here again soon.

All good, man, thank you. The goal with this project was, in fact, to put a lot of focus on the "ear candy" - not just the grooves themselves. The majority of listeners who've given feedback have mentioned how they can listen to the record multiple times and hear something new each listen - and that's what keeps them putting the record on again and again. I love Prince, of course, but purposefully didn't mirror the minimalist production style of his early works for the above reason, and for not wanting to risk it sounding "too much" like an old Prince record. I do appreciate your opinion, however. I'll be playing in NorCal next year, hope you can make it!

@@mjlettieri I prefer "ad hoc" music, too. Great when "FUN" comes first. Like Jam - sessions with Tim Pierce, for example. I love music with surprises. Unusual, fascinating, great. An enrichment for me, can not hear enough. btw. 10 Min. with tim pierce - what's the tuning of your guitar? Difficult to get your playing "in my head"....your playing is very inspiring to me, but i am LIGHT - YEARS behind....I look forward to NEW from you! Good luck, fun, money and the most important thing: Stay healthy!
