As a former pro musician and music lover (I'm 70, and was a real rocker!), I must agree. When you listen to Mark's vocals, it's quite amazing. He was like a refined Mick Jagger. He could scream and sing all at once, and he'd hit the notes perfectly. Amazing phrasing. My choice of top hits for The Raiders are Kicks, Good Thing, Just Like Me, Him or Me and Hungry. They were incredibly hard rock, but had Beach Boy overtones.

In the 60s my neighbor friend was a girl my age, 10. We moved away , about a year later, one of her letters to me mentioned that she saw the Raiders in a parade in the Chicago area ( a PR appearance I gather); she fell in love with the whole band! Lol

In his day he was the paramount rock and roll star. He had the most lush ponytail of the sixties and when he flung it over his shoulder while singing, it was an image that stayed in your mind. Great voice.

I saw him, solo, in Birmingham AL in 1971(?). He was terrific. I was 8-10 in the 60s when the Raiders were all over TV and loved them so much. Does anyone remember that Paul at one point had the front end of a Mustang mounted on his keyboard? I know I’m not imagining this.

Had the honor and privilege to perform three times on the Happening show. There was a battle of the bands and we came in-second. Mark graciously gave me rides in his Mini Cooler when I hitchhiked in West Hollywood. I’m sure he didn’t know who I was, just a kind and riendly guy.

Great interview. A credit to Mark Lindsay, who in the 60s, contended with so many opportunities. Life was really moving fast. Had no idea he was a great music producer and edited Jerry Rafferty's Baker Street. For the song's saxophone player, great piece. Wow! what an ending.

He was a bonafide TEEN IDOL back in the mid to late 60’s and beyond. Amazing how young he looks here , he must have been in his 50’s in 1996.. the Raiders and Mark went very bubblegum and then middle of the road and lost me . Using HUNGRY in Once upon a Time in HOLLYWOOD reminded me they could Rock!

Still looking good here, well into his 50s. The truth is, it is not enough to have a distinct, good voice like Mark...it helps greatly to be handsome...and he clearly had that going too! Jim Morrison also benefitted from those traits.
