Corporate culture killed popular culture, as I see it. By the 2000's they all decided to merge into a few industry companies while simultaneously lowering the bar for creative talent. Name a band that you like that has come out in the last 15 years. They're all too keen to blame us consumers, the digital piracy, but it all ignores the crap they're producing. There is no musical revolution, only streaming contracts. But I'm confident that this was self-indicted, by idiots in charge. This is what failure looks like when nobody wants to admit it. Don't blame Napster, blame the jump in price for new albums from $9.99 to $17.99 without providing anything extra.

For what it's worth, I find that personal achievement is the most sure way to dissolve depression. It's why video games can be, and often are, therapeutic, as long as you recognize that it's a distraction rather than attaining a real achievement in your life. So creativity is a real world equivalent to this, I think. Create stuff that make you proud. It kinda doesn't matter if other people approve of your self-esteem, ya know? So don't worry about approval. A helpful analogy for depression, unfortunately, that I've discovered from a traumatic period of 16 months, is that life goes by like a stream, and inevitably there are whirlpools. Those whirlpools are depression. The sooner you recognize these whirlpools, the easier of a time you'll have avoiding them, much less becoming caught in them. The longer you wait, the more you entertain this thought pattern that only pulls you in without making any sense, the harder it'll be to pull out. And sometimes whirlpools will be very big and hard to avoid, but it can be done. As for reaching the bottom, I've never tried that so I dunno. Maybe it's better, I can't say. This method, along with keep creating and building stuff, make ideas happen, these help me avoid depression quite effectively. Note: I'm on medication and see a psychiatrist every so often as I recover from extreme neurologal trauma. Sometimes my stream is all whirlpool, but I know it isn't me doing it. To get really personal, even video games make me panic with certain scenario, even though I'm as skilled as ever. In other words, I struggle to relax enough to have fun. But I'm getting better. I fully intend to work my way off this medication as I recover.
