This is a song that stops you in your tracks. Riveting -- you can't help but give it your undivided attention. When it is over, you sit in the stillness for awhile. Then you listen to it again. // The first time I heard this song it was as if nothing else existed in the entire world. Just me on the couch, my CD player and this haunting music, filling the room like an enveloping atmospheric condition.

Mark sent to me this CD, as a gift, immediately after it was published. He wrote to me that probably was the best CD he never made, but of course it was not the truth. This because almost all of his records are at the same emotional and musical level. On the top. Not only. After the turn of millennium, he started to record only beautiful masterpieces... Impossible to affirm what has been his best record. His artistry was so absolute and his way of singing so deep, beautiful and total, that is impossible to create a hierarchy into his discography. Simply, this record is one of his many sublime works he made. Mark Murphy forever in our hearts!

Wow, that's amazing that he sent this to you. You were friends with him? I regret that I never saw him in concert. He played at The Kitano here in New York, but I missed the show. I agree: he has sooooo many masterpieces!!!

A very appropriate response. I remember very clearly the very first time I heard this song. The last two and a half minutes were a complete shock, being lofted away by the intensity of a swirling cloud of ethereal sound. That doesn't happen all that often.

Roger Treece wrote the beautiful vocal arr. behind Mark. Like The Singers Unlimited on steroids.

Was it Singers Unlimited? (Love them.) When I heard this the first time I could only envision Take 6. I wish I knew which it was.

@@rr7firefly This particular piece was recorded by Treece's studio singers but is clearly influenced by Gene Puerling's group due to the female voices on top, as opposed to the all male Take 6.

@@gregstegeman7102 Thanks for the info. Puerling's harmonies always get my attention. BTW, have you heard Jacob Collier singing "In the Bleak Midwinter" ? There are also several KZbin videos where he speaks about his "negative harmony."
