Just an FYI, the whistle definitely IS a Lunkenheimer 3 chime whistle. They made dome top whistles of this style. You know, with the ornamental nut on the top. The only other alternative would be a Powell, but it sounds nothing like a Powell, and the openings for the whistle are different. Powells have square semiarched openings, whereas Lunkenheimers had fully arched mouths. The sound is a dead ringer for a 5" Lunkenheimer 3 chime. As far as I understand, it's also the same musical chord of a Southern 3 Chime whistle.

Great video of the Mark Twain

Thank you very much! Keep the queen of the river in mind for an upcoming compilation

Very fascinating. I wouldn't know the difference between this and a train if I heard it in the distance.

Me being me, I know this is more tuneful and meant for resonating through a valley to announce the impending arrival of a grand paddle steamer haha

Is the boat a functioning steam boat or is on a track under the water being dragged
@thunda7928 Жыл бұрын
It's a functional steamboat. It propels itself with its paddlewheel, but is guided by an I-beam track under the water, so it isn't steered from the pilothouse.
@TrainBandit Жыл бұрын
@@thunda7928 ok so I was half correct lol.
@WaltsNephew Жыл бұрын
Indeed, a genuine steamer riding along a track. So, in a way, Mark Twain is both a paddlewheel steamer and a floating monorail hahaha

Hmmm... The whistle isn't sounding as good as it did a couple years ago. I smell something broken. Time to contact Rizzoli Locomotive Works!

Interesting concept! I wonder if they could do just that
@Trainlover19958 ай бұрын
I think the actual problem is that they aren’t blowing the whistle as hard anymore because the neighbors complained about the noise. You used to be able to hear the Mark Twain from the other side of Harbor Blvd, and on my most recent visit, I couldn’t even hear her from Tomorrowland.

The whistle is like a steam train

Close, but I think with the tone it's better suited for river traffic
