It is an old catridge for sure nothing wrong with it outside of every aspect of it being obsolete long before WWII rolled around and even more obsolete post WWII. That said plenty of cartridges are obsolete. I am American and while I own a 30-06 I do not romantize the 30-06 at all or blow smoke up my rear about it being a "Great Ole Cartridge" and I own 2 rifleschambered in 308 Win and you will never hear me bragging about how great the 308 Win is. In terms of ELR compeitition I doubt anyone would chose the 303 British I can tell you no one that podiums in F-Class uses it for sure not in USA or UK. MarkandSam like doing what no one else is doing and I am sure they like a challenge as well. I am sure Mark could ELR a 6 Pounder but that s just how Mark rolls! LOL

Bingo “ 303 “ Australia’s cartridge. Being the backbone of Australian & commonwealth hunting & service rifle matches for decades. Very happy to some love coming it’s way. Would definitely love to see , what could be done using the Lee Enfield action ! There’s a hell of a lot of old rifles out there, that need some love . Thanks heaps!

Last I checked the cartridges name is 303 British not 303 Penal Colony of Great Britian and not 303 Austrailian! Lets not get so romantic over a cartridge. It is just a brass container that holds powder, primer and bullet. It would be like waxing on romaticly over the Sterling Sub Machine Gun. Does anyone make a modern mass produced action in current production that is chambed for the 303 British. I love me some old vintage WWI and WWII surplus rifles that is for sure. I assure you if Mark and Sam ever do a 30-40 Krag ELR video I will not wasx on romaticly over the 30-40 Krag cartridge!
@buckaroobonsi555Күн бұрын
We also know what the Lee Enfield rifle could and could not do as the Royal Amoury did a lot of studies over and over again. There is a reason the 303 British and all actions associated with it where phased out from the miltary and from sniper roles. The UK Military wanted to replace the 303 British cartridge and the Lee Enfields/Enfields before WWII happened but they dragged their feet started to and then WWII was upon them. The .280 British was absolutely brilliant cartridge but they caved to NATO aka USA and ended up adopting the 7,62 NATO aka 308 Win. 303 British is a decent hunting round and can be the base for fantastic Wild Cat catridges in spite of the rim. Lee Enfield's make great hunting rifles where the two piece stock design is not likely to be an issue. It was a brilliant rifle for it's time and very user friendly for field armours and such. By todays standards though they not up to scratch for real precision shooting past 600m.

@@buckaroobonsi555 I’ve only ever heard the “ 303 “ called 303 British on KZbin or on line . So anybody that I”ll ever come in contact with , will know exactly what 303 means or even “ three oh “ & it was definitely the backbone of Australian hunting & sports - service rifle shooting. The 303 based wildcats were also part of that 303 & Lee Enfield connection!

I had seen how well my mate's Ruger No1 303 shot compared with the No1 MkIII and No4 Mk2 that I have. The Lee-Enfield is a development of the Lee-Metford. The design of the action was developed my James Paris Lee, and was the first rifle to incorporate a double stack box magazine. The primary difference between the two, aside from some minor upgrades, was the design of the rifling. The Metford rifling was a polygonal design while the Enfield was a regular groove and lands type.

I shoot a little.....but you all are on a different level! 😅 What's the biggest challenge with that cartridge? It would seem that available bullets would not be as "efficient" in the wind,as you said, but the case capacity would also be somewhat limited, i would be curious to know what combination you have in the cartridge if you have a moment. (Also, is your cartridge within typical sami spec, or where you able to bump the chamber out a bit for more case capacity....to perhaps utilize a slighly longer bullet?) Edited to fix spelling errors.

How does it consecutively feed the rimmed .303 cartridge from the magazine ? What magazine version/type is it ?

@ thanks for your response. It’s really great to see this setup and cartridge pushing the 174s out to 2700+ fps.

300 fps over Mk.7 velocity! How does Allan Swan do the rifling? I could not see anything on his website. I regularly take my 1918 BSA № 1 Mk. III* out to the range, which I inherited with a good supply of PMP Mk. 7 ball. It's corrosive, but a good swabbing with an aqueous solution of Young's .303 before regular cleaning fixes that.
