In This video we take a look at the Rush 72 pack by 5.11 and the kind of items that I like to carry on an overnight shooting trip. This 50ltr pack won't disappoint if you are looking for a large day pack, hunting bag, bug out bag etc. Purchased from Military 1st here in the UK, they can also be found anywhere on Amazon or EBay. The pack in the video is the sandstone colour, but there is a good range to choose from. Average cost is between £120-£180. Thanks for watching............

I've used my rush 72 bag to backpack Europe and during multi day hiking trips locally. I've had it for 5+ years and there's nothing wrong with it. Very durable and strong! I'll use it as long as I can. Nice vid btw

Excellent video ~ Excellent channel. Having just purchased a Rush 72, I found myself looking at various video offerings on how others are packing their gear. As another commenter stated ~ likely the best vid here truly showing the capability of this pack. Blue Skies Mark!

I find 5.11 rush packs are best used in really cold weather as otherwise your back will start to melt like tarmac in a 70's summer with any physical activity! Nice review I have the rush 12 daysack kept in my boot of the car with emergency items,for when needed.

Hi Connell, may thanks for watching and for the comment :) I agree, they can be a tad sweaty on a summers day. I like your analogy lol...… I haven't seen melted tarmac in years :) As packs go, this has been my go to pack for a few years now and it has been a good all round rucksack. A few people have mentioned the Rush 12, I will have to take a look at one sometime :) Thanks again Connell, have a great day, all the best, Mark :)

That's a cool kit you got there Mark. I've been looking for a pack recently. I love these type of packs but the price is a little high for me. With a very small income it is kind of hard to get some bushcraft gear. Normally when I acquire gear it is usually on my birthday or Christmas. Thanks for the review I found it very helpful. Have a wonderful week - Josh

Hi Josh..... I hope you are keeping well. Your quite right, there is a lot of expensive gear out there at the moment. A lot of what keeps the price high is the demand. Having stuff for birthdays and Christmas is the way to go!!! It means it cost you nothing lol. Thanks again for watching and commenting Josh...... have a great day, Mark.

2:05 I was gonna purchase the 511 rush 72....but after a few review videos...most people complained about the neck yoke and the pinching...I chose the vulture II 3 day pack...very happy.

@markbailey2981 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kanzee, I hope you are well :) Personally I have never had any issues with the yoke system on the pack. I'm not the largest of people and it fits quite well. I can see what they mean about it pinching or rubbing if it was gripping around the neck. The Vulture II is a great looking pack. I have never had the chance to look at one close up, but Maxpedition make some awesome gear. I have a few small pouches made by them and they are awesome quality. Thanks as always Kanzee……. have a great day, all the best, Mark :)

I also use the Rush 72 and ever since I changed the useless hip belt it comes with for a much better quality one it has become my favourite back pack. I needed to change the hip belt because I hike long distances with it. It can now comfortably carry 22 kilo. Nice to hear your take on it Mark thanks for another good video.
@markbailey2981
@markbailey2981 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, I hope you are keeping well. Yeah, your right about the hip belt. It is ok for short trips and to stop it bouncing around, but for longer hikes like you do, I'm sure the change was a good thing. Everything else I find great with it. I use it a few times a week and it still looks like new. Thanks for watching, all the best, Mark.

Great video mark you forgot the kitchen sink and tumble dryer lol. I'm after a new pack that supports my back better after breaking it last year. I need the weight to be carried on my hips and my army pack doesn't have the belt 🙄
@markbailey2981
@markbailey2981 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave..... the kitchen sink is in the other pack lol...... Ouch a broken back, that must of been painful mate!!! The pack is very comfortable up to a certain point. After around 30lb I can feel it a bit, as the waist strap doesn't take much of the weight. Maybe you should look at some of the higher end hiking packs that are designed to help to carry loads on the hip. But for the money, the rush 72 is a rugged pack that does me for what I need it for. Thanks again for watching and for the comment. Have a good day mate. ATB Mark.

Hi Mark....A very in depth look at a very well made bag. I had no trouble with mine I just found it too small for camping trips and too big for a day bag so I moved it on to my mate Norm who didn't get on with it either. Do you have trouble finding stuff in all those pockets as we did or is that issue resolved by using lots of pouches? Thanks for sharing as always mate I always enjoy your videos, I'm sure a great many people find them very helpful. Be safe and be lucky man, Wol.
@markbailey2981
@markbailey2981 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Wol, hope you are keeping well mate. Many thanks for watching and for the comment. Your quite right about trying to find stuff with all the internal pockets, hence the main reason for keeping the items in separate pouches. I find it is large enough for a couple of days, but it is a bit too small for some of the larger items e.g. cook sets, larger saws, winter sleeping bags etc. I also find if I do start to fill the small individual pockets that it starts to take up the space in the main part of the pack. Thanks again Wol........ have a great day, all the best Mark.

Great video and review. You also have a very good kit. It's very comprehensive and well thought out. I live in an urban/suburban area so I also utilize multiple types of stoves. Most people don't realize that they may need multiple types of stoves. I carry a small alcohol stove, a small gas stove and a bio stove. I know it's a little overkill but I'm covered (at least until the fuel runs out) for most every situation. For me fire is second only to water in order of importance so the overkill works for me. I utilize multiple ways to purify water as well. The only thing I didn't see was a fixed blade knife. Maybe I just missed it. I was wondering what you carry. Again...Fantastic setup and thanks for sharing.
@markbailey2981
@markbailey2981 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, many thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment. Your quite right, I find it pays to carry multiple items, certainly stoves where I am. I tend to boil my water if time allows, but if not or if I can't have an open fire, then its the filter. I don't think I covered my belt knife in this video, but I usually carry an LT Wright. I have a Genesis and a GNS which I like to use. But I also like the Mora bushcraft black. It all depends on how much weight I want to carry and the kind of work I need to do with the blade. Thanks again Jack... all the best, Mark.
@jackg.7745
@jackg.7745 6 жыл бұрын
Mark Bailey Hey Mark...You have a very good complement of knives. I also have a rotation of blades depending on task or even sometimes my mood. Depending if I'm working on bushcraft vs tactical skills I carry either the Becker BK7 or the Gerber LMF II. I always carry my Mora Black as well as my favorite knife, the Pathfinder School Knife Shop Skinner (I have forgotten the actual name). I can easily use either the Becker or Gerber for wood processing but I prefer to use a small camp axe. I don't like batoning with my knives so I also always have the camp axe in my kit along with a Bahco Laplander saw. I like your Silky. I will probably upgrade to one in the future.
@markbailey2981
@markbailey2981 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack, it looks like you have got nice selection of knives. I was looking at one of the Pathfinder knives. I think it was the Scorpion, it looked similar to the Bushcraft Black. There are a few shops here in England selling a bit of pathfinder gear now. Silky are great saws. Easy cutters as some would say. The blade isn't as robust as the Bahco, but I don't seem to have any issues with mine. Have a great day... all the best, Mark.

Mark Bailey Hey Mark...I believe I've forgotten the name of the Pathfinder knife. I received it as a gift a few years ago and now it's slipped my mind. Old age!!! Maybe a Woodsman? It's a 6 inch blade with a 3/16 spine. Super sharp. Perfect skinner. I also have a couple of Tops and ESSE's I rotate but the Pathfinder is by far my favorite. Dave Canterbury makes some great gear. I have some of his canteens and cook sets as well.

Hi Mark for longer distances you use a trekking backpack or the rush 72?
@markbailey2981
@markbailey2981 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Florain, hope you are well. It depends on the distance and how long I am going away for. When I used to do a lot of long distance trekking/camping I would always choose a trekking pack. I used Lowe Alpine for years. They are a lot more comfortable and more adjustable than the Rush 72. But for short hikes and overnighters, then the rush 72 is great. Have a great weekend, all the best, Mark. :)

Hi James, I tend to use a couple of seat mats. The green one was a piece of roll mat that I cut to size and a Fjallraven folding seat mat. I can't remember which was in the video. But the Fjallraven mats you can pick up on ebay or amazon for about £20. I will leave you a link to them on ebay.
